Panthers waived RB Dantrell Savage, RB Josh Vaughan, CB R.J. Stanford, OL Andrew Crummey, and DE Eric Moore.
Savage and Vaughan saw plenty of early-camp injuries with Jonathan Stewart, Tyrell Sutton, and Mike Goodson all nursing injuries. They never had a realistic shot to make the team. Sat, Sep 4, 2010 07:23:00 PM

Panthers signed RB Dantrell Savage, formerly of the Chiefs.

Cornerback Marcus Walker was waived/injured to make room. Savage is familiar with OC Jeff Davidson's scheme after playing in a similar one for Todd Haley last year, but is short on talent. He had all of 10 carries in 2009.

Chiefs waived RB Dantrell Savage.

Savage battled ankle problems for much of last season and ended up on injured reserve. He's a pedestrian return man and doesn't project as a legitimate NFL running back. The smallish Savage wouldn't have made a good team's roster last year.

Chiefs placed RB Dantrell Savage (ankle) on injured reserve, ending his season.

Savage's ankle injury prevented him from challenging Jamaal Charles for carries following Larry Johnson's exile. He finishes the year with just 17 offensive touches. Savage will have to fight for a roster spot in training camp next season. He doesn't do anything particularly well.

Chiefs declared RB Dantrell Savage, LB Mike Vrabel, OG Andy Alleman, LB David Herron, LB Justin Rogers, OT Ryan O'Connell, TE Sean Ryan and third QB Matt Gutierrez inactive for Sunday's game against the Chargers.

Savage is struggling with an ankle injury and the backfield will be manned by Jamaal Charles and Kolby Smith. Andy Studebaker starts again in place of Vrabel.

Chiefs RB/PR Dantrell Savage left Sunday's game against the Raiders with an ankle injury and is questionable to return.

Savage muffed a punt to turn the ball over early in the game and also dropped an easy third-down pass which would have resulted in a first down. When Savage came off of the field after the drop, coach Todd Haley said to him, "You don't want to play today, do you?" Maurice Leggett will handle punt returns.

Chiefs declared RB Dantrell Savage, TE Brad Cottam, OT Ikechuku Ndukwe, TE Jake O'Connell, G Brian Walters, WR Quinten Lawrence, CB Mike Richardson and third QB Matt Gutierrez inactive for Sunday's game against the Giants.

Dwayne Bowe is a go. Jamaal Charles is once again the No. 2 RB and should see plenty of snaps behind Larry Johnson.

The Chiefs used Dantrell Savage as their third-down back in Week 2.

Savage made a bonehead play, staying in bounds with the Chiefs out of time outs and trying to get a field goal at the end of the first half, but did generate 69 yards on nine touches. He's ahead of Jamaal Charles right now.

Chiefs signed RB Dantrell Savage, G Brian De La Puente, G Edwin Harrison, and DT T.J. Jackson to reserve/future contracts.

Savage may make it as a return man down the road, but he doesn't have a future as a running back.

Chiefs re-signed Dantrell Savage to their practice squad.

Savage's future in Kansas City is in more of a return role as opposed to a legitimate option in the running game.

Chiefs waived RB Dantrell Savage.

Kansas City liked Savage's potential as a returner, but he offered little as a runner. The Chiefs hope he clears waivers and gets to the practice squad.

Dantrell Savage ran 12 times for 44 yards and caught two passes for zero yards in the Chiefs' Week 10 loss.

That is awful per-play productivity from the rookie free agent. Savage was in so much because Jamaal Charles re-injured his ankle on the first play of the game. The former Oklahoma State Cowboy offers little physically and is slated to return to special teams duty in Week 11 with Larry Johnson due back.

Chiefs rookie RB Dantrell Savage expects to share the backfield with Jamaal Charles on Sunday.

"I’m getting a lot more reps in practice," Savage said. "The coaches have tried to fit me in with the No. 1 team. That is the plan, to work me in with Jamaal." Coach Herm Edwards has hinted he doesn't want Charles carrying a full load. Charles remains a much better RB2/flex option becaue of his talent. Savage is not very fast and is generously listed at 5'8/180.
