Saints signed QB Seneca Wallace to a one-year contract.
Wallace, who turns 33 before the season, has completed 59.2 percent of his 764 career throws with a 31:18 TD-to-INT ratio and 6-15 record as a starter. A mobile quarterback with some experience at receiver, Wallace also averages 4.3 yards per career rushing attempt. Wallace will compete in training camp with Luke McCown to be Drew Brees' primary clipboard holder. Former Saints longtime backup Chase Daniel left for greener pastures in Kansas City. Updating a previous item, the Raiders are not signing free agent QB Seneca Wallace.

Reports that Wallace had beat out Tyler Thigpen to serve as the No. 3 quarterback behind Matt Flynn and Terrelle Pryor proved to be premature. Beat writer Vic Tafur says the Raiders could sign 32-year-old Wallace "down the road," but not right now. He'll head back to the free-agent market.

Raiders agreed to terms with QB Seneca Wallace.

Wallace beat out Tyler Thigpen to join Matt Flynn and Terrelle Pryor in the Raiders' QB corps. He's being signed for his experience and leadership more than his skills, which have eroded to the point that he was out of the league last season. Wallace will spend camp mentoring Flynn and Pryor, but shouldn't attempt a pass after the preseason. It's possible Wallace won't make the Week 1 roster, but the Raiders have been enamored with the idea of signing a veteran QB, so he most likely will.

Free agent Seneca Wallace will work out for the Raiders on Wednesday.

Wallace was one of four free agent QBs to work out for the Seahawks on Monday, but didn't get a call back. The 2003 fourth-rounder spent 2012 out of the NFL, and would be little more than a veteran mentor to Matt Flynn and Terrelle Pryor in Oakland. The Raiders would be better off using the roster spot on a young player.

Free agent QB Seneca Wallace worked out for the Saints this week.

Drew Brees and Chase Daniel are healthy, so the Saints are likely just updating their scouting reports on free agents. Wallace has been out of the league since the Browns dumped him a week before Opening Day.

Browns released QB Seneca Wallace.

After months of trade speculation, Colt McCoy will stick around as Brandon Weeden's back-up. Aside from the tension it will create if Weeden struggles, the move makes sense from both a football and financial perspective, as McCoy is six years younger than Wallace and due nearly $2 million less. The Browns are still risking McCoy turning into the most popular guy in town if their first-round pick struggles, however. Wallace should find a new home before Week 1, perhaps Green Bay, where Graham Harrell has stunk up the joint behind Aaron Rodgers this preseason.

ESPN Cleveland's Tony Grossi expects the Browns to go with Seneca Wallace as their No. 2 quarterback.

This is hardly a surprise considering the constant Colt McCoy trade rumors. Grossi has felt "all along" that the selection of Brandon Weeden meant the end for Colt McCoy in Cleveland. Despite their similar skill sets, he gives the edge to Wallace because of his experience in the West Coast offense.

Seneca Wallace won't rule out requesting a trade if he's set to open the season as the Browns' No. 3 quarterback.

Wallace believes there's "probably not room" for three quarterbacks who think they're starting caliber, and he wouldn't be happy as a third stringer. The greater likelihood is that Colt McCoy is traded for a draft pick in the next couple of months.

Seneca Wallace made it clear Tuesday that he's willing to mentor first-round QB Brandon Weeden.

Wallace is taking a different tact this year after saying last summer that he'd rather compete with than mentor Colt McCoy. "I know my job going into my 10th season of being in this offense is to prepare Brandon Weeden to get him right and make sure he's ready to go for day one," Wallace said. "This is a different beast. This is a first-rounder."

Terry Pluto of the Cleveland Plain Dealer expects the Browns to move on from QB Seneca Wallace if they draft Oklahoma State QB Brandon Weeden.

At 28 years old, it's expected that Weeden can step right into a starting job at the NFL level, especially in Cleveland, where his only competition would be Colt McCoy. According to Pluto, Wallace "obviously doesn't want to be a backup to McCoy" and is not in the mix to start. The Browns are sure to add a quarterback at some point in the draft, putting Wallace squarely on the roster bubble.

Seneca Wallace intends to ask coach Pat Shurmur for a shot at the starting job in 2012.

Wallace went 0-3 in his three starts this season, throwing just two touchdowns while averaging 189.0 passing yards per game. His only argument is that the Browns did have a chance to win each of those games. Wallace figures to be competing with Colt McCoy and a rookie quarterback in 2012 training camp.

Seneca Wallace completed 16-of-41 passes for 177 yards in Sunday's Week 17 loss to the Steelers.

He added three carries for 44 yards. The Browns are expected to upgrade at quarterback next season and Wallace doesn't figure to be in their long-term plans. In three starts filling in for Colt McCoy, he posted 567 passing yards and a 79.7 passer rating.

Seneca Wallace completed 19-of-33 passes for 147 yards, one touchdown, and an interception in the Browns' Week 16 loss to Baltimore.

Cleveland was actually threatening late after Wallace hit Evan Moore for a six-yard touchdown in the fourth quarter, but the final result was 20-14. The Browns' offense got nothing going in the way of big plays and struggled to move the chains. They close the season versus a Steelers team with the AFC North title on the line, so the Browns are likely staring at a 4-12 finish.

Seneca Wallace will start for the Browns against the Ravens in Week 16.

Colt McCoy and Jordan Norwood won't even make the trip to Baltimore due to their concussions. The Browns have not ruled out McCoy for the season finale. Rotoworld ranks Wallace No. 29 among fantasy options against a Ravens defense looking to bounce back from a poor performance in Week 15.
Thu, Dec 22, 2011 01:08:00 PM

Coach Pat Shurmur said that Seneca Wallace will likely start Saturday's game against the Ravens.

Colt McCoy (concussion) still has not been medically cleared. Wallace threw for 226 yards and a touchdown against the Cardinals last week, but 76 of those yards and the score came on a fluky play to Greg Little. The entire Browns' offense is hands off in this brutal matchup.
