The Seahawks are expected to re-sign free agent K Steven Hauschka.

The move could be made official as early as Friday. Hauschka has been Seattle's kicker each of the past two seasons, converting 49-of-57 field-goal attempts.

710 ESPN considers free agent K Steven Hauschka the Seahawks' most likely candidate for the franchise tag.

Hauschka was 23-of-23 from inside 50 yards last season. Franchising him would cost $2.926 million, something the financially comfortable Seahawks can certainly live with. However, Hauschka went just 1-of-4 from 50-plus yards out last season and is 4-of-10 from that distance in his career. Perhaps coach Pete Carroll will want to bring in a bigger leg.

Seahawks placed K Steven Hauschka (calf) on injured reserve, ending his season.

Hauschka injured his calf during Sunday's Wild Card win in Washington. It wraps a career-best season that saw him go 24-of-27 on field goals in the regular season, including a 23-of-23 mark from 49 yards out or closer. The Seahawks will roll with veteran Ryan Longwell against the Falcons this week.

Coach Pete Carroll clarified that K Steven Hauschka's injury is to his calf, not his ankle.

"You could see him limping out there," Carroll said. "But he made good kicks out there when we needed him." Punter Jon Ryan took over kickoff duties, and Hauschka was limited to field goals under 50 yards. Don't be surprised if the Seahawks bring in another kicker this week.

Seahawks K Steven Hauschka left Sunday's Wild Card round game versus the Redskins with an ankle injury.

Punter Jon Ryan handled the kickoff after the Seahawks' second-quarter touchdown, but Hauschka was able to connect on a 29-yard field goal just before halftime. It could get interesting if the game comes down to a long field goal attempt.

The deadline to sign a qualifying offer has already passed, so Hauschka's signing was just a formality. In his first full season as a starter, Hauschka graded out slightly above average according to Pro Football Focus' kicker ratings.

The move should keep Hauschka in Seattle after he converted 25-of-30 field-goal attempts in 2011. A four-year veteran, Hauschka had previously never kicked in more than nine games before last season.

Hauschka will replace Jeff Reed, who was released in a corresponding move. A career 72.7 percent field-goal kicker on 22 attempts, Hauschka is a fantasy player to avoid in Seattle's moribund offense.

Matt Prater (groin) is a no-go for Week 14 at Arizona, and we'd have a tough time recommending Hauschka, who was waived by Falcons and Lions earlier this season, as a fantasy playoff option being fresh off the street. Find other kicking options if you have currently have Prater in your lineup.

Hauschka was 9-of-13 on field goals down the stretch of last season, but two of his misses were from within 39 yards, and he also shanked an extra point. The Falcons will move forward with Matt Bryant as their starter.

Matt Bryant pulled his hamstring last week, so Hauschka will likely handle kicking duties at Tampa Bay in Week 17. He converted 9-of-13 attempts with Baltimore earlier in the season.

Free agent K Steven Hauschka will work out for the Giants on Tuesday, along with rookie K Graham Gano.

Hauschka was released two weeks ago by the Ravens after converting 9-of-13 attempts but the four misses were big ones. The Giants' kicker, Lawrence Tynes, has converted 23-of-28 attempts.

Hauschka went into Monday's game on thin ice. A missed 36-yard field goal and a blocked extra point sealed his fate. The team gambled in a big way this offseason, electing to turn the page on the only kicker in franchise history, Matt Stover. With Stover now kicking for the Colts, look for Baltimore to dial up journeyman free agents Mike Nugent and Billy Cundiff.
