X-rays on Giants SLB Jameel McClain's foot came back negative.
However, ESPN's Josina Anderson reports McClain could undergo an MRI on Wednesday. For now, the Giants are saying McClain is simply dealing with "soreness" after being carted off the practice field on Tuesday. The G-Men can ill afford McClain's injury to be serious with Jon Beason (foot) on the shelf. Jul 22 - 5:48 PM

Giants DC Perry Fewell said the team signed SLB Jameel McClain partly as insurance against an injury to MLB Jon Beason.

Fewell said the Giants signed McClain to start outside, but they also viewed him as a player who could step in for Beason inside, in the event of injury. This news suggests McClain could replace Beason (foot) if he misses early-season games. McClain may be able to play middle linebacker in a pinch, but he is an underwhelming option. The Giants need Beason to get healthy quickly.

Jameel McClain is penciled in as one of the Giants starting outside linebackers.

McClain inked a two-year, $4.1 million deal with the G-Men last month. After MLB Jon Beason's re-signing, McClain will flank him at one of the outside spots. Spencer Paysinger and Jacquian Williams will compete on the opposite side. Other than possibly Beason, there's no IDP value here whatsoever.

Giants agreed to terms with LB Jameel McClain, formerly of the Ravens, on a two-year, $4.1 million contract.

The Giants aren't done at linebacker despite giving Jon Beason $19 million to remain their starting "Mike". It's possible they'll ask McClain to play outside after O'Brien Schofield's deal was nixed by a failed physical. McClain, 28, overcame a scary spinal injury to start 10 games for the Ravens last season. He's a middling talent along with Spencer Paysinger/Jacquian Williams at the other outside 'backer spot.

The Titans remain interested in free agent ILB Jameel McClain.

The Titans continue to scour the market for defenders with 3-4 experience. McClain is also drawing interest from the Vikings, Giants and Bills.
Mar 12 - 9:26 AM

Free agent ILB Jameel McClain will visit the Vikings on Monday.

McClain has already visited the Giants and Bills, and is believed to be at the Meadowlands on Thursday. He'd help man the middle in Minnesota.
Mar 6 - 3:45 PM

Free agent ILB Jameel McClain will visit the Giants.

McClain is visiting the Bills Wednesday but plans to make the trip east to the Meadowlands. The soon-to-be 29-year-old played all over the second level of the defense for the Ravens during his time with Baltimore. He'd ideally play the middle. If the Giants re-sign MLB Jon Beason, McClain could play outside.
Mar 5 - 2:18 PM

According to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport, free agent ILB Jameel McClain is set to visit the Bills on Wednesday.

Rapoport added McClain has other visits scheduled as well. McClain came back from a spinal injury in 2012 to play 10 games for the Ravens last season. He has never been an above average linebacker, but has 55 games of starting experience and should not break the bank. McClain is our No. 11 free agent inside linebacker.
Mar 4 - 10:05 PM

Ravens informed ILB Jameel McClain and FB Vonta Leach of their release.

The moves clear approximately $4.95 million in cap space. McClain put 10 ordinary games on film last season after returning from a spinal cord injury, but has 55 games of starting experience. He's unlikely to draw interest as a starter in the first wave of free agency, but could be viewed as a cheaper option once the big names are signed. McClain has never graded out positively as a starter in Pro Football Focus' ratings. Leach, 32, was a minimal part of Baltimore's 2013 offense as the running game screeched to a halt. He performed poorly as a lead blocker and is nearing the end of the line.
Feb 27 - 3:00 PM

The Ravens are expected to release ILB Jameel McClain.

The move would clear $3.2 million in cap space. McClain suffered a spinal cord injury in Week 14 of the 2012 season but was activated in October and made ten starts, registering 52 tackles. However, he's not a playmaker, and the Ravens have 2013 second-round pick Arthur Brown waiting in the wings.

Jameel McClain will start at inside linebacker in Sunday's game against the Browns.

Playing for the first time since sustaining a spinal cord injury in Week 14 of last season, McClain had six tackles in Week 7. He's come out of the bye healthy and will start ahead of Josh Bynes. Expect some kind of rotation initially.

Ravens activated ILB Jameel McClain (neck) from the reserve/PUP list.

McClain was cleared to resume practicing Wednesday and is listed as probable for Week 7. He'll likely be used in a situational role in his season debut against the Steelers. The Ravens waived TE Billy Bajema for the third straight week in a corresponding move.

Ravens ILB Jameel McClain (neck, PUP) returned to practice Wednesday.

McClain was cleared to resume practicing for the first time since suffering a spinal cord injury in Week 14 of last season. A three-year starter, he'll likely be returning to a situational role if he's added to the active roster. "We’re going to practice McClain today," coach John Harbaugh said. "Do not know what that means for this week, next week, or the week after. We have to make a decision about whether we put him on the 53-man roster. So we’ll just have to see how it goes."

Ravens ILB Jameel McClain's latest neck MRI increased optimism that he can resume his career.

McClain is on PUP and eligible to resume practicing with the team after Week 6. It's unclear if he'll do so, but a source tells the Baltimore Sun that the return is coming sooner rather than later. The Ravens have been fine at inside 'backer with Daryl Smith, Josh Bynes and Arthur Brown.

Ravens placed ILB Jameel McClain (neck) on the reserve/PUP list.

This was considered the most likely course of action after McClain opened camp on active/PUP. It's quite possible he won't be activated at all this season. The Ravens will roll with Josh Bynes and Daryl Smith at inside linebacker to begin the season. Rookie Arthur Brown should get on the field, as well.
