Titans agreed to terms with P Brett Kern on a four-year, $5.2 million extension, including $2.1 million guaranteed.

Not bad for a player claimed off waivers a year and a half ago. Kern's 42.9 average was mediocre in 2010, but he finished an impressive sixth in the more important net average with 39.1. A telling stat is that returners averaged just 6.1 yards per punt against Kern last season.

Brett Kern is the favorite to win the Titans' punting job.

Craig Hentrich retired, clearing the way for the 24-year-old Kern. He averaged 45.0 yards per punt in the final 10 games of last season. Kicker/punter Ricky Schmitt is also in Titans camp, but only as a practice leg.

Titans claimed P Brett Kern off waivers from the Broncos.

Considering how poorly Kerry Collins has played this season, Kern will be a busy man. He averaged 46.1 yards per punt in the mile-high air, he ranked just 27th in the league with a 34.5 net average.

Broncos waived P Brett Kern.

Amazingly, the Kern-for-Mitch Berger swap is the Broncos' first in-season roster move of 2009. Most teams have signed multiple players off the street.

Broncos second-year punter Brett Kern says he put on 20 pounds of muscle this offseason.

Kern says more muscle means more hangtime and consistency. We're not sure if we buy that a punter really jacked himself up by 20 pounds, but it can't hurt.
