Lions SS James Ihedigbo is holding out of OTAs as he seeks a new contract.

Per Ihedigbo's agent, he "does not plan to report to any Lions offseason activities until he and the team come to terms on a new contract." Now 31, Ihedigbo is headed into the second season of a two-year, $3.15 million deal. Already paid a $500,000 roster bonus, Ihedigbo is due just $1.1 million after grading out as PFF's No. 14 safety in 2014. Ihedigbo has a case for a raise, but his holdout is unlikely to concern the Lions until it extends to June's mandatory minicamp.

Lions S James Ihedigbo (back) is listed as probable for Week 11 after practicing on Friday.

Ihedigbo was not able to practice Thursday after waking up with a sore back. He felt better on Friday, and said after practice, "I'll be playing." Ihedigbo has been a force for the Lions' top-rated defense, notching 36 tackles, two sacks and an interception in six games this season.

Lions S James Ihedigbo (neck) is listed as probable for Sunday's Week 4 clash with the Jets.

Ihedigbo has missed the first three games of the season with a neck injury. Barring a setback, he will make his season debut against the Jets. With Stephen Tulloch (knee) lost for the season, Ihedigbo's run-stopping prowess will be a welcome addition to the Lions' defense.

Lions S James Ihedigbo (neck, knee) returned to practice Friday, but was limited.

Ihedigbo has missed more than a week of practice, but should be ready to go when the Lions open their season Monday night. Detroit would turn to rookie Jerome Couplin if Ihedigbo is unable to go.

Lions signed SS James Ihedigbo, formerly of the Ravens, to a two-year contract.

Ihedigbo replaces Louis Delmas next to Glover Quin on Detroit's back end. He's coming off a career year of 101 tackles and the first three interceptions of Ihedigbo's seven-year career. The 30-year-old reunites with DC Teryl Austin, Baltimore's DBs coach the past two seasons. Ihedigbo is a strong leader and can play special teams. He's typically been a liability in pass coverage.

The Baltimore Sun reports free agent S James Ihedigbo has multiple offers, and the Ravens aren't expected to retain him.

Ihedigbo visited the Lions on the opening day of free agency but left without a deal. That's the only known interest the 30-year-old has drawn to this point. The Ravens will need to find his replacement next to Matt Elam.

The Baltimore Sun reports the Ravens have "maintained interest" in free agent S James Ihedigbo.

An every-down player for the Ravens last season, Ihedigbo has made only one visit in free agency, venturing to Detroit last week. Ihedigbo is Rotoworld's No. 7 remaining free-agent safety.

Free agent S James Ihedigbo left Detroit without a deal, but is still expected to sign with the Lions.

Ihedigbo is currently between agents and his wife is pregnant, so he has a lot on his plate. It sounds like the Lions intend to sign him as a starter next to Glover Quin. Former Ravens DBs coach turned Lions DC Teryl Austin said Ihedigbo was one of the Baltimore's most influential defensive leaders last year.

Free agent S James Ihedigbo will visit the Lions and is expected to sign.

Ihedigbo played for new Lions defensive coordinator Teryl Austin for the last two years while both were in Baltimore. He'd ideally be depth at safety and a core special teamer.

The Ravens have named James Ihedigbo their starting strong safety, beating out first-round pick Matt Elam.

They've also crowned Gino Gradkowski at center, where he held off A.Q. Shipley. Coach John Harbaugh emphasized that Elam will still see "significant playing time," despite coming off the bench. Elam can cover the slot in addition to play safety. He'll likely replace Ihedigbo in obvious passing situations.

The Ravens plan to give veteran James Ihedigbo the first shot at replacing Bernard Pollard at strong safety, but will likely have him compete with a draft pick.

Ihedigbo has starting experience, but is more useful as a special teamer. It's a deep draft for safeties, so Ihedigbo may well get beaten out in camp. The Ravens could eventually sign another veteran, as well.
Fri, Mar 29, 2013 10:03:00 AM

Ravens re-signed S James Ihedigbo to a one-year contract.

Ihedigbo, 29, appeared in all 16 regular season games in Baltimore last season, making three starts. He recorded 25 tackles and one sack without forcing a takeaway. Ihedigbo is best suited as a special teams gunner. The Ravens have SS Bernard Pollard in place and will look elsewhere to replace Ed Reed.
