Lions placed DE Wallace Gilberry (abdomen) on injured reserve.

Gilberry had yet to register a sack on 126 snaps. He has only 3.5 quarterback takedowns over his past 36 games. His roster spot has been taken by Armonty Bryant. He'll likely end up released with an injury settlement.

Lions signed DE Wallace Gilberry, formerly of the Bengals.

Gilberry, 31, was a situational pass rusher behind Carlos Dunlap and Michael Johnson in Cincinnati last year, tallying 23 tackles, two sacks, and a forced fumble across 16 appearances (1 start). The Bengals did not re-sign Gilberry because his effectiveness dropped off sharply in 2014 and 2015. Gilberry is a depth signing in Detroit, where the Lions still need more talent behind starters LE Devin Taylor and RE Ziggy Ansah. Gilberry is a downgrade from Jason Jones.

Bengals re-signed DE Wallace Gilberry to a three-year, $6.75 million contract.

Gilberry was very productive as a situational pass rusher last season, compiling 6.5 sacks in 14 games. The former undrafted out of Alabama is back to fill the same role once again. It's a quality, cost-efficient move for the Bengals.

Bengals signed DE Wallace Gilberry.

Gilberry made an impact as rotational pass rusher in 2010 before his play fell off across the board last season. He was recently cut by the Bucs after signing a one-year deal in June.

Bucs re-signed DE Wallace Gilberry.

Gilberry was waived on Saturday, but the Bucs have had a change of heart. Gilberry was a productive player for the Chiefs the past three seasons, appearing in all 16 games while tallying at least 2.5 sacks each year. His contract will be guaranteed if he holds his roster spot through next weekend.

Bucs waived DE Wallace Gilberry and OT Bradley Sowell.

Gilberry appeared in all 48 games for the Chiefs the past three seasons, making 55 tackles and 14 sacks. He shouldn't go unsigned in 2012.

Bucs signed DE Wallace Gilberry to a one-year contract.

The Bucs continue to make tweaks along the depths of their defensive line. Gilberry and Jayme Mitchell are in, while Hilee Taylor and Myles Wade are out. Gilberry, 27, had 10 tackles and 2.5 sacks while appearing in all 16 games for the Chiefs last season. But two years ago, he posted seven sacks.

The Chiefs remain open to bringing back some of their 11 unsigned unrestricted free agents.

GM Scott Pioli indicated that DE Wallace Gilberry, in particular, wanted to revisit talks after the draft. "We had talked to Wallace a number of times during the season about an extension," Pioli said. "We talked to him during the offseason and Wallace wasn't ready to make a move and wasn't ready to do anything. He wanted to see what his market was."

Chiefs DE Wallace Gilberry has been as impressive as any defensive player in training camp.

Noticeably bigger in the upper body this year, Gilberry has been "almost unstoppable" rushing the passer off the edge. Beat writer Bob Gretz noted that every offensive tackle on the roster has been embarrassed "at least once" by Gilberry's power rush. The situational pass rusher finished second only to Tamba Hali with seven sacks last year.

Chiefs re-signed restricted free agent DE Wallace Gilberry to a one-year, $1.9 million contract.

Coordinator Romeo Crennel smartly limited Gilberry to a pass-rushing specialist role, and the 26-year-old emerged as one of two 3-4 defensive ends to produce 40 or more "quarterback disruptions" in 2010. He'll play the same role this season.

Wallace Gilberry was one of two 3-4 defensive ends to produce 40 or more "quarterback disruptions" in 2010, according to Pro Football Focus.

Gilberry isn't much of a run defender, so the Chiefs smartly played over 75 percent of his snaps on passing downs. With Glenn Dorsey, Ron Edwards, Tyson Jackson, and Shaun Smith faring much better as run-stoppers, Gilberry fills a much-needed niche in the defensive line rotation. He'll be back on a second-round tender in 2011.

Chiefs extended restricted free agent DE Wallace Gilberry a second-round tender.

A three-year veteran, the athletic if undersized Gilberry is Kansas City's top situational pass rusher on the line. He finished second on the team behind only Tamba Hali in QB pressures last season, also notching seven sacks.

Chiefs DE Wallace Gilberry led the team's defensive linemen in sacks (4.5) and quarterback pressures (5) in 2009.

This is more an indictment of Glenn Dorsey and disappointing rookies Tyson Jackson and Alex Magee more than anything, but Gilberry did make the most of his snaps and should have a roster spot in 2010. While the job of 3-4 ends isn't always to rush, Jackson and Dorsey had plenty of blitz opportunities on third downs throughout the year. Dorsey had one sack; Jackson had none.

Chiefs signed DE Wallace Gilberry to a three-year contract.

Gilberry's deal is for the minimum and he will have to continue to make the team on a weekly basis, so the "three years" doesn't mean much. The Chiefs hope he'll help against the run. Gilberry isn't much of a pass rusher.
