Colts RCB Vontae Davis (foot surgery) is practicing "full speed" at OTAs.
Davis underwent a "minor" foot operation in February, but he appears close to fully recovered. Beat writer Stephen Holder says Davis was "really hampered" by the injury last season, resulting in a dip in on-field effectiveness. Still only 28 years old, Davis is a good bet for a bounce-back 2016 campaign. May 18 - 10:35 PM

Date:

Colts RCB Vontae Davis is recovering from a clean-up surgery on his foot.

The Colts didn't express any concern over the operation when addressing it at the Combine. It sounds like a routine scope. Davis' on-field play fell off in 2015 while battling foot and hamstring injuries. Turning 28 this May, Davis is signed for two more years with Indy on salaries of $7 million (2016) and $9 million (2017).

Colts RCB Vontae Davis (hamstring) returned to a full practice on Thursday.

Davis was held out on Wednesday after failing to finish last Sunday's loss to Atlanta. The full practice is a strong sign he'll start versus Tampa Bay.

Colts RCB Vontae Davis left Sunday's Week 11 game with a hamstring injury.

He was immediately deemed doubtful to return. Davis did not exclusively shadow Julio Jones, who had seven catches for 130 yards with 10 minutes left in the fourth quarter. Greg Toler is now seeing Julio in coverage.

Colts RCB Vontae Davis (foot) is active for Week 5 against the Texans.

Davis appeared to be on the doubtful side of questionable, but he'll at least begin the game against DeAndre Hopkins and company. We wouldn't be surprised to see his snaps rationed. A banged up Davis' presence doesn't change WR1 Hopkins' outlook.

Colts RCB Vontae Davis (questionable, foot) did not practice this week.

Davis was seen in a protective boot when the week began, and never got on the practice field. Although this is an unusual situation with the Colts playing the Texans on a short week, it's pretty routine across the NFL that players who do not practice do not suit up on game days. If Davis can't play Thursday night at Houston, DeAndre Hopkins' fantasy outlook would get a big boost.

Colts coach Chuck Pagano said there is "reason for some concern" about Vontae Davis (foot).

Davis has yet to practice this week, and is looking doubtful for Thursday's game against the Texans. Fortunately for the Colts, Greg Toler should be back after missing the first four weeks with a neck injury.

Vontae Davis (foot) was absent from Tuesday's practice.

With the Colts playing the Texans on Thursday, Davis is in a race against the clock. If Darius Butler has to start in his place, DeAndre Hopkins could be in for a monster game.

Colts CB Vontae Davis was sporting a boot on his foot at the team facility on Monday.

The injury isn't known to be severe, but it's a concern for Indianapolis playing on a short week. The Colts will visit Houston on Thursday night. If Davis is at less than 100 percent, DeAndre Hopkins' matchup would get a boost.

RotoGrinders.com Daily Slant: Davis being in a walking boot three days before the Colts next game doesn't bode well for his chances of being active on Thursday. It's likely that the Colts would use Davis to shadow DeAndre Hopkins, but that doesn't appear to be something that Thursday night DFS players will have to contend with. Hopkins has been an absolute target monster through four games (averaging 15.25 targets per game) and considering the Texans will likely be playing from behind most of the season, that shouldn't change any time soon.

Colts CB Vontae Davis (concussion) is active for Week 3 against the Titans.

With Darius Butler (hip) and Greg Toler (neck) out, the Colts could not afford to be without Davis this week. Davis will help lock down the outside receivers, but the rest of the Colts' secondary is still a mess. Marcus Mariota should find some success today.

Vontae Davis has been cleared to play Sunday against the Titans.

We figured as much when Davis shed his non-contact jersey at Thursday's practice. His concussion against the Jets must have been extremely mild. After drawing Sammy Watkins in the season opener and Brandon Marshall last week, we'd expect Davis to spend a lot of time on Titans perimeter receivers Justin Hunter and Dorial Green-Beckham in passing situations.

Colts CB Vontae Davis (concussion) is practicing on Thursday without the red non-contact jersey.

It is not clear if Davis has been medically cleared, but practicing without the non-contact jersey is a great sign. Barring any setbacks, he should be able to play this week against the Titans.

Colts CB Vontae Davis exited Monday night's Week 2 game against the Jets with a concussion.

With CBs Greg Toler, Darius Butler, and D'Joun Smith already hurt, Davis' loss is monstrous. Jalil Brown, Sheldon Price, and Eric Patterson are the only corners left for the Colts. Davis was hurt making a tackle at the line of scrimmage.

Colts coach Chuck Pagano hinted he is open to using Vontae Davis to shadow opposing No. 1 receivers this season.

Davis has strictly played RCB through two years in Pagano's defense, emerging as arguably a top-three NFL corner behind Richard Sherman and Darrelle Revis. "We’ve got to be able to do whatever we want to do with him," Pagano said. "If that means putting him on somebody’s best wide receiver instead of just playing one side of the (field), then maybe that’s the next progression. We’ll see." This is something to keep in mind for DFS purposes.

The Indianapolis Star's Stephen Holder said both Colts RCB Vontae Davis (knee) and LCB Greg Toler (groin) will play in the AFC Championship Game.

"No ifs, ands or buts," Holder said, adding both were limited in Friday's practice "out of caution." Despite being listed as questionable, there was never any doubt both Toler and Davis would suit up against the Patriots.
