Colts CB Vontae Davis (knee) is expected to play in Sunday's game against the Lions.

Davis' exact role is unclear. He's the Colts' top corner, but he's missed the last four games and interim coach Bruce Arians has hinted at limited playing time. Davis will not be shadowing Calvin Johnson, which means Megatron is going to get matched up with burnable ex-Patriot Darius Butler plenty.

Davis practiced Wednesday, couldn't make it through a full workout on Thursday, and was held out entirely on Friday. So he's not going to play against the Bills. The Colts will continue to start Cassius Vaughn opposite Darius Butler. Josh Gordy will be the nickel back for Indianapolis' injury-riddled back end.

According to beat writer Mike Chappell, Davis might finally be ready to return in Week 12. With Jerraud Powers landing on injured reserve Monday, the Colts will likely be forced to go with Darius Butler and Cassius Vaughn at corner against the Patriots' high-powered passing attack. It's going to be a long afternoon for the Horseshoe.

Davis has appeared in two games since Week 3, playing start to finish in just one of those contests. He's out indefinitely with no timetable to return. Cassius Vaughn started in Davis' place against Miami and racked up six tackles.

Colts CB Vontae Davis (knee) confirmed he's going to be out "a while."

Davis is calling his left knee sprain a "freak thing" and he's limping around with a brace. Look for Cassius Vaughn to play right corner and Josh Gordy to slide in as the nickelback against the Dolphins in Week 9. The Colts say Davis will be out at least two weeks.

He'd be missing the opportunity to face his former team. Davis was spotted at the Colts' facility Monday walking "real stiff-legged" after suffering the left knee injury. Davis has 19 tackles through five starts this year.

Colts CB Vontae Davis was knocked out of Sunday's Week 8 game versus the Titans with a left knee sprain.

Davis never returned after suffering the injury in the first quarter. He will be sent for tests on Monday. Cassius Vaughn came on his replacement. Davis was coming off his best game with the Colts in Week 7 versus the Browns.

Cassius Vaughn will move to nickel back. Davis was active for last week's loss to the Jets, but did not play a snap. Acquired before the season from Miami in exchange for 2013 second- and sixth-round picks, Davis has made three starts for Indianapolis and recorded 15 tackles. He doesn't have an interception yet.

It's a surprise after Davis barely practiced all week and was slapped with a "doubtful" tag. He may just be an emergency piece as Cassius Vaughn will start. Vaughn handled himself shockingly well in last week's upset of the Packers.

Davis was initially diagnosed with an ankle injury. He was sporting a walking boot Wednesday. The Colts are on bye in Week 4, giving Davis 14 days to get healthy for Week 5.

Colts LCB Vontae Davis is week-to-week with an ankle injury.

The Colts have apparently yet to get back Davis' MRI, but the "week-to-week" designation would suggest a high-ankle sprain. Although Davis has been struggling, that would be very bad news for a pass defense ranked No. 14 through the season's first three weeks. With the Colts on bye this week, Davis should be considered questionable for Week 5 until further notice.
