Colts CB Vontae Davis (ankle) is active for Week 3 against the Chargers.
He'll be making his season debut after missing about a month with an ankle injury. Davis' return will be a big boost to what has been a terrible pass defense, though the Colts are also still without CB Patrick Robinson (concussion) and slot CB Darius Butler (hamstring). Philip Rivers remains a QB1. Sep 25 - 3:13 PM

Colts CB Vontae Davis (ankle) is listed as questionable to face the Chargers in Week 3.

Coach Chuck Pagano expressed optimism Friday that Davis would be able to start versus San Diego, although his status may come down to a game-time decision. Travis Benjamin and Tyrell Williams would get small downgrades were Davis able to suit up. It's still unclear whether he can play a full complement of snaps.

RotoGrinders.com Daily Slant: Both Williams and Benjamin would become riskier targets if Davis played, although it's unlikely he'd be at full strength and he'd probably just operate on one side of the field as opposed to shadowing any one of the Chargers WRs. Benjamin and Williams both line up all over the field - neither has racked up over 40% of their snaps at any one WR position - so they'd each likely see Davis for about 20-33% of snaps assuming he plays every snap.

Colts CB Vontae Davis (ankle) returned to practice Wednesday.

In addition to Davis, CB Patrick Robinson (concussion) and FS T.J. Green (knee) are also back at practice, though Robinson is in a no-contact jersey. The Colts have the most injury-riddled defense in the league, and it has been getting torched early in the year. Getting Davis back will go a long way toward helping contain opposing pass games. It's still too early to tell if he'll play in Week 3.

Colts declared CB Vontae Davis, DE Henry Anderson, C Austin Blythe, OT Le'Raven Clark, LB Trent Cole, S T.J. Green and CB Patrick Robinson inactive for Week 2 against the Broncos.

Davis remains week to week with an ankle injury. Darius Butler (ankle), Antonio Cromartie (hamstring), Clayton Geathers (foot), Zach Kerr (foot), Kendall Langford (knee) and Robert Mathis (foot) are all active for Indy.
Sep 18 - 3:14 PM

ESPN's Adam Schefter reports Colts CB Vontae Davis has ligament damage in his ankle and is expected to miss "at least" the first month of the season.

This explains the Colts' signing of Antonio Cromartie on Monday. Davis injured his ankle in practice last week, and it sounds like he's considered "out indefinitely" without lack of a better term. Davis is easily the Colts' best defensive player and one of the top cover corners in the game. It's a huge loss.
Aug 22 - 8:38 PM

Colts coach Chuck Pagano said CB Vontae Davis is week to week with an ankle injury.

Davis sprained his ankle in practice last week and was unable to play in the second preseason game Saturday night. The week to week designation is scary, but Davis is still likely to be ready for the season opener. With Patrick Robinson dealing with a groin injury, the Colts are extremely thin at corner. They will likely add someone this week.

Colts RCB Vontae Davis (foot surgery) is practicing "full speed" at OTAs.

Davis underwent a "minor" foot operation in February, but he appears close to fully recovered. Beat writer Stephen Holder says Davis was "really hampered" by the injury last season, resulting in a dip in on-field effectiveness. Still only 28 years old, Davis is a good bet for a bounce-back 2016 campaign.
May 18 - 10:35 PM

Colts RCB Vontae Davis is recovering from a clean-up surgery on his foot.

The Colts didn't express any concern over the operation when addressing it at the Combine. It sounds like a routine scope. Davis' on-field play fell off in 2015 while battling foot and hamstring injuries. Turning 28 this May, Davis is signed for two more years with Indy on salaries of $7 million (2016) and $9 million (2017).

Feb 25 - 2:05 PM

Colts RCB Vontae Davis (hamstring) returned to a full practice on Thursday.

Davis was held out on Wednesday after failing to finish last Sunday's loss to Atlanta. The full practice is a strong sign he'll start versus Tampa Bay.

Colts RCB Vontae Davis left Sunday's Week 11 game with a hamstring injury.

He was immediately deemed doubtful to return. Davis did not exclusively shadow Julio Jones, who had seven catches for 130 yards with 10 minutes left in the fourth quarter. Greg Toler is now seeing Julio in coverage.

Colts RCB Vontae Davis (foot) is active for Week 5 against the Texans.

Davis appeared to be on the doubtful side of questionable, but he'll at least begin the game against DeAndre Hopkins and company. We wouldn't be surprised to see his snaps rationed. A banged up Davis' presence doesn't change WR1 Hopkins' outlook.

Colts RCB Vontae Davis (questionable, foot) did not practice this week.

Davis was seen in a protective boot when the week began, and never got on the practice field. Although this is an unusual situation with the Colts playing the Texans on a short week, it's pretty routine across the NFL that players who do not practice do not suit up on game days. If Davis can't play Thursday night at Houston, DeAndre Hopkins' fantasy outlook would get a big boost.
Wed, Oct 7, 2015 08:37:00 PM

Colts coach Chuck Pagano said there is "reason for some concern" about Vontae Davis (foot).

Davis has yet to practice this week, and is looking doubtful for Thursday's game against the Texans. Fortunately for the Colts, Greg Toler should be back after missing the first four weeks with a neck injury.
Tue, Oct 6, 2015 04:13:00 PM

Vontae Davis (foot) was absent from Tuesday's practice.

With the Colts playing the Texans on Thursday, Davis is in a race against the clock. If Darius Butler has to start in his place, DeAndre Hopkins could be in for a monster game.
Tue, Oct 6, 2015 02:25:00 PM

Colts CB Vontae Davis was sporting a boot on his foot at the team facility on Monday.

The injury isn't known to be severe, but it's a concern for Indianapolis playing on a short week. The Colts will visit Houston on Thursday night. If Davis is at less than 100 percent, DeAndre Hopkins' matchup would get a boost.

RotoGrinders.com Daily Slant: Davis being in a walking boot three days before the Colts next game doesn't bode well for his chances of being active on Thursday. It's likely that the Colts would use Davis to shadow DeAndre Hopkins, but that doesn't appear to be something that Thursday night DFS players will have to contend with. Hopkins has been an absolute target monster through four games (averaging 15.25 targets per game) and considering the Texans will likely be playing from behind most of the season, that shouldn't change any time soon.
