Darrius Heyward-Bey caught 1-of-2 targets for 14 yards in the Steelers' third preseason game.
Heyward-Bey is competing with Sammie Coates for the Steelers' No. 4 receiver job, but DHB has the inherent game-day activity edge because of his special teams value. On offense, Heyward-Bey is just a situational deep threat. Aug 26 - 11:53 PM

ESPN's Jeremy Fowler expects Darrius Heyward-Bey to remain "fairly high" on the depth chart this season.

Heyward-Bey's clear-out speed — he reportedly clocked 25 miles per hour this spring — has made him a surprising Steelers mainstay, though he has only 24 catches over his past 32 games. Even if DHB gets some routes, he's well behind Antonio Brown, Le'Veon Bell, Markus Wheaton, Ladarius Green, and potentially Sammie Coates on the targets totem pole.

Steelers re-signed WR Darrius Heyward-Bey to a three-year, $3.8 million contract.

Heyward-Bey played a surprising amount of snaps on offense last season (406), but is primarily a special teamer at this point in his career. Unsurprisingly, he graded out as one of the league's worst wideouts in Pro Football Focus' ratings. With Antonio Brown, Martavis Bryant, Markus Wheaton and Sammie Coates all in the fold, DHB's snap count should dip sharply in 2016.
Mar 7 - 1:16 PM

Steelers WR Darrius Heyward-Bey caught 2-of-2 targets for 64 yards in Sunday's Divisional Round loss to the Broncos.

Heyward-Bey appeared to lose early-game playing time to rookie Sammie Coates, but came alive for a 58-yard gain on a wide-open route in the second quarter. That was about the extent of DHB's contribution. An impending free agent, Heyward-Bey has devolved into a sub-package receiver and special teams gunner. Maybe old pal Hue Jackson will give him another look in Cleveland.
Jan 17 - 8:24 PM

Darrius Heyward-Bey caught 2-of-5 targets for 74 yards Week 17 against the Browns.

Heyward-Bey got more run in the second half because of Martavis Bryant's neck injury. He connected on a 66-yard bomb, but he missed out on a couple end-zone targets. Depending on Bryant's health, DHB could play a big role next week.
Jan 3 - 5:24 PM

Darrius Heyward-Bey caught 2-of-6 targets for 24 yards in the Steelers' Week 5 win over the Chargers.

He tied Antonio Brown for the team lead in targets. Heyward-Bey was the target on a couple downfield passes, but wasn't able to secure them. Off the fantasy map, DHB will be the No. 4 receiver when Martavis Bryant returns.

Darrius Heyward-Bey caught 4-of-5 targets for 31 yards in Pittsburgh's Week 4 loss to the Ravens.

DHB's touchdown was a nine-yard missile from Michael Vick that he would have dropped had Vick not literally stuck it in his gut. DHB has been forced into far too many snaps during Martavis Bryant's four-game suspension, but that will finally change next week as Bryant returns.

Darrius Heyward-Bey secured 4-of-5 targets for 77 yards and a touchdown in the Steelers' Week 2 win over the 49ers.

The Steelers surprisingly threw repeated bubble screens to DHB in the first quarter. He came back to make a pretty catch over his shoulder on a 41-yard bomb. Heyward-Bey proceeded to whip 49ers SS Antoine Bethea for a 35-yard touchdown late in the first half. Always inconsistent, DHB has two games left to serve as the Steelers' third receiver until Martavis Bryant returns from suspension. Pittsburgh heads to St. Louis next.

Darrius Heyward-Bey caught 4-of-7 targets for 58 yards in Pittsburgh's Week 1 loss to the Patriots.

Forced into a big role with Martavis Bryant on suspension and Sammie Coates not ready for the bright lights, DHB turned in a fittingly cringeworthy performance. One of his missed connections was an easy 26-yard touchdown, but he couldn't get both feet in bounds on a play where he was wide open. Another was a Ben Roethlisberger interception foolishly thrown into double coverage. Last but not least, DHB failed to fight for what would have been a critical first down at the end of a fourth-quarter reception. DHB will be making the same mistakes until he's no longer in the NFL.

Steelers re-signed WR Darrius Heyward-Bey to a one-year contract.

Heyward-Bey, now using his speed to be a standout special teamer, appeared in all 16 games for the Steelers last year. He played just 174 snaps on offense, catching three passes for 33 yards. He'll return in a similar depth role behind Antonio Brown, Martavis Bryant and Markus Wheaton. In six seasons since the Raiders reached for DHB at No. 7 overall, he's scored a grand total of 12 touchdowns on 172 catches.

Darrius Heyward (illness) did not practice Wednesday.

With Dri Archer on track to return, Heyward-Bey isn't a lock to be active this week.

Darrius Heyward-Bey caught 3-of-3 targets for 54 yards and a touchdown in Thursday's preseason game.

The grabs were DHB's first of the preseason. He ran right by undrafted rookie S Daytawion Lowe for his 33-yard score in the fourth quarter, at least for one brief moment looking like a former first-rounder. It couldn't have hurt his roster odds.

Steelers WR Darrius Heyward-Bey suffered a concussion in Thursday's practice.

Heyward-Bey has a history of concussions, so he could have trouble getting cleared. The missed time puts his roster spot in jeopardy. Derek Moye will get an extended look in Heyward-Bey's absence.

Steelers signed WR Darrius Heyward-Bey, formerly of the Colts, to a one-year contract.

Heyward-Bey, the former No. 7 overall pick of the Raiders, is a case of a player whose name is far bigger than his game. DHB started the first ten games of the season for the Colts in 2013 but was finally benched and played a total of 32 offensive snaps the final four games. He caught 29 passes for 309 yards and one score in 2013 but dropped nine passes. DHB will compete for a spot.

Free agent Darrius Heyward-Bey will visit the Steelers on Wednesday.

It's Heyward-Bey's first-known visit after his career bottomed out with the Colts last season. Given an opportunity to start, DHB proved as stone handed as ever, catching only 29 passes while committing nine drops. He was one of the league's worst receivers before being relegated to special teams in December. DHB is an adequate blocker and special teamer, but the Steelers will be in major trouble if they're hoping he can contribute on offense.
