ESPN's Adam Schefter reports free agent QB Tim Tebow is "actively pursuing a career in professional baseball."
Schefter reports Tebow has been training for "almost" a year and plans to hold a workout for MLB teams later this month. "Almost" a year hardly seems like enough time to get ready for a sport great athletes devote their entire lives to mastering, but perhaps they do not have the requisite amount of "work ethic" or "grit." Soon-to-be 29, Tebow's future resides in a broadcast booth. Aug 9 - 9:16 AM

Eagles released QB Tim Tebow.

Tebow's apostles took Friday's trade of Matt Barkley as a sign that he'd be the Eagles' No. 3 quarterback, but the team has instead made the increasingly-common decision to go with only two signal callers. Mark Sanchez is one of the league's most experienced backups, making a third unnecessary for the time being. Tebow was impressive as a runner this summer while making some plays with his arm, but racked up stats against third- and fourth-string defenders, and hadn't appeared to make any meaningful progress on his previous form. A surprisingly great television presence, Tebow should be headed back to ESPN's SEC Network.

Tim Tebow completed 11-of-17 passes for 189 yards, two touchdowns and an interception in Thursday's preseason finale.

He added four carries for 32 yards. It was easily Tebow's best performance of the summer, but it came against some of the deepest reserves in the league. The highlight was a circus escape and touchdown pass on a fourth quarter 4th-and-6. Tebow finishes the preseason 21-of-36 (58.3 percent) for 286 yards (7.94) YPA, two touchdowns and a pick. As a runner, he took the rock 14 times for 82 yards (5.85 YPC) and a score. Despite the nice dual-threat numbers, Tebow looked shaky in practice for the majority of August. It's probably 50-50 between Tebow and Matt Barkley for Philly's third QB spot.

Eagles coach Chip Kelly said Tim Tebow has become more accurate since he joined the team.

Reports suggest Kelly has become enamored with the idea of using Tebow on offense, and him pumping up the quarterback in the week before cuts is a good sign Tebow will make the team. With the Eagles unlikely to keep four quarterbacks, this could be bad news for Matt Barkley.

ESPN's Dianna Marie Russini reports Eagles coach Chip Kelly is "increasingly excited" by Tim Tebow, and that Tebow will make the team if he avoids "major errors."

Per Russini, Kelly has been most impressed by Tebow's running, and believes he could be valuable in short-yardage situations. Russini allows that Tebow's infamously bad throwing has been "not perfect." Becoming more of a Bill Belichick-esque iconoclast every season, Kelly could be crazy enough to keep Tebow around.

Philly Mag: Birds 24/7 predicts Tim Tebow will not make the Eagles' final roster.

Tim McManus hedged somewhat on the prediction by admitting there is still a chance Matt Barkley could be traded, but following an impressive showing by Barkley in the preseason opener, it is clear Tebow is behind the eight ball to make the final roster. Unless coach Chip Kelly sees Tebow as a gadget player he can utilize on game days, his roster spot is in serious jeopardy.

Tim Tebow completed 6-of-12 passes for 69 yards in the Eagles' preseason opener Sunday.

He also rushed for 15 yards and a garbage-time touchdown late in the fourth quarter. Tebow got off to a hot start, showing good accuracy on his first series following Matt Barkley's impressive outing, but it all came crashing down after that. It still takes Tebow too long to get the ball out of his hands, and he also took a number of bad third-down sacks scrambling around in the backfield. After one preseason game, Barkley has a comfortable lead to be the No. 3 QB.

People who are "plugged in" with the Eagles believe the team intends to keep Tim Tebow on the final roster.

Additionally, those people say Chip Kelly intends to actually use Tebow in games. We'll believe that when we see it, especially with Kelly saying repetitive accuracy is the No. 1 thing he looks for in a quarterback. For now, Tebow is just trying to beat out Matt Barkley for the No. 3 gig behind Sam Bradford and Mark Sanchez.

NJ.com's Eliot Shor-Parks predicts Tim Tebow will make the Eagles' 53-man roster.

Shor-Parks likes Tebow's chances because he "doesn't turn the ball over" and can "make plays with his legs." He also said Matt Barkley "isn't built" to be a backup and that Tebow offers more in spot duty. Even if Tebow makes the team, he'd be a distant third behind Sam Bradford and Mark Sanchez.

Tim Tebow has been "struggling" in OTAs.

Reports of Tebow's improved throwing motion were predictably embellished. Two months shy of his 28th birthday, Tebow is an old dog who can't learn new tricks. If there's one coach crazy enough to keep Tebow around as a gadget player, it's Chip Kelly, but it's still hard to see happening. Roster spots are simply too precious. Tebow belongs on the SEC Network, where he's quite good.

According to the Philadelphia Inquirer, there doesn't appear to be "much difference" in Tim Tebow's throwing motion.

Tebow's motion was reportedly much improved after working with quarterback guru Tom House, but reporter Jeff McLane says he "still takes a long time (to) cock, load and throw." Tebow was never going to fully revamp his throwing motion going on age 28. Tebow is fighting Matt Barkley for No. 3 duties.

Philly Mag's Tim McManus believes Tim Tebow has a "real shot" to win the No. 3 quarterback job in camp.

With G.J. Kinne transitioning away from quarterback, Tebow's competition for the No. 3 role will be the underwhelming Matt Barkley. Barkley is a better quarterback than Tebow, but Tebow would bring some versatility and short-yardage ability to a roster spot which was wasted last year. Tebow could stick on the roster if he avoids falling on his face during training camp.

Chip Kelly insists Tim Tebow isn't just a camp arm.

"I think everybody here that we bring to our organization is here to compete for a job," Kelly said. "That's what Timmy is going to do. He's an unbelievable competitor." Kelly's comments come after Mark Sanchez suggested Tebow is just there to conduct drills in the offseason. We'll take Sanchez's side on this one.

Mark Sanchez said the Eagles signed Tim Tebow as a camp arm while Sam Bradford recovers from his knee injury.

"He's obviously a great guy, he works hard. And we needed another guy to throw while Sam's still recovering," Sanchez said. It is always exciting when the Sanchez-Tebow circus comes to town. Of course, if the Eagles really just wanted a guy to throw while Bradford was sidelined, they would have signed someone who could actually throw. Tebow's chances of making the final roster are slim, but he would not be on the roster if coach Chip Kelly thought he was nothing more than a camp arm.

Personnel executive Ed Marynowitz confirmed the Eagles see Tim Tebow as a quarterback only.

As expected, there's been chatter Chip Kelly will find a role for Tebow as a short-yardage back, tight end or H-back. But he will compete as a quarterback, where the No. 3 job behind Sam Bradford and Mark Sanchez is unsettled. "We brought Tim in for a workout and obviously we were intrigued with what we saw there," Marynowtiz said. "He had improved since the last time we saw him here, which was with New England." Online sportsbook Bovada has installed Tebow as -200 favorite to get cut before Week 1.
