Texans signed S Brian Russell, formerly of the Jaguars.

Russell, 32 in February, started all of the Seahawks' 32 games in 2007-2008, but was released last offseason and has bounced around ever since. He'll add depth behind FS John Busing and SS Bernard Pollard for the Texans.

Free agents DB Brian Russell and OG Kynan Forney are currently en route to Jacksonville and expected to sign with the Jaguars on Tuesday.

The deals are pending physicals. Both vets would be backups on the Jags. Russell would likely fall in behind starting strong safety Sean Considine.

Seahawks released FS Brian Russell.

Seattle will probably start Jordan Babineaux at free safety this year, and the downgrade is negligible. Russell, 31, wasn't worth his $2.1 million salary as a declining backup-caliber safety. He could draw interest from Oakland, where former Seahawks coordinator John Marshall is now running the defense. Then again, Russell lacks "Raider speed."

Brian Russell is first in line to start at free safety in Seattle.

He's ahead of Mike Green, who's been working once-a-day at Seahawks camp as he comes back from a Lisfranc injury. Russell was never much of a playmaker in Cleveland but should be better than Ken Hamlin in coverage.

Seahawks signed safety Brian Russell to a five-year, $13.5 million contract. The deal included a $3 million signing bonus.

Odd, considering Seattle just gave Deon Grant a huge deal. Russell, recovering from offseason elbow surgery, will be asked to compete with Mike Green and Michael Boulware at safety. His addition may allow restricted free agent Jordan Babineaux to push Kelly Herndon for nickel duties.

The Seahawks have reportedly visited with free agent S Brian Russell.

Russell could battle Jordan Babineaux to start at free safety for the 'Hawks, who also are believed to have an eye on ex-Jaguar Deon Grant.

Free agent S Brian Russell is not expected to return to Cleveland.

The Browns will talk to Russell, but if he thinks he can still start, he won't be back. Brodney Pool and Sean Jones are the team's future at safety.

The Browns are likely to make re-signing FS Brian Russell a top priority this off-season.

Cleveland's best strength on defense is depth at safety. Retaining Russell would maintain it. Russell reportedly wants to be back, but the first step will be showing he's fully recovered from a staph infection.

Browns placed free safety Brian Russell on injured reserve with a staph infection in his elbow, ending his season.

Russell is eligible for unrestricted free agency in 2007. Brodney Pool will likely take his spot and keep it through next season.

Browns FS Brian Russell is likely to miss the rest of the season.

Russell remains in the hospital with an injured elbow and the Cleveland Plain Dealer speculates he has a staph infection. Second-year man Brodney Pool appears likely to finish out the season as a starter.

The Cleveland Plain Dealer speculates that Browns free safety Brian Russell is again suffering from a staph infection in his elbow.

If so, Russell might be lost for the season. Second-year man Brodney Pool replaced him Thursday night and recorded eight tackles (four solo).
