Panthers signed SCB Captain Munnerlyn to a four-year, $21 million contract.
Munnerlyn spent the first five years of his career in Carolina, and it always seemed likely he would come back home after the Vikings let him hit the open market. The Panthers are set on the outside with James Bradberry and Daryl Worley, but Munnerlyn is both a big upgrade in the slot and a solid veteran addition to a young cornerback room. Mar 10 - 7:51 PM

According to Chris Tomasson of the St. Paul Pioneer Press, the Vikings are "definitely" interested in re-signing free agent Captain Munnerlynn.

Of course, it will have to be at the right price. Munnerlyn wants a raise after earning $4.2 million in 2016, and also prefers the security of a long-term contract. Maybe the two sides can meet in the middle, but it's unlikely the Vikings would break the bank for a soon-to-be 29-year-old slot corner.

Impending free agent CB Captain Munnerlyn said he'll only return to the Vikings if the team offers him a four- or five-year contract.

Munnerlyn is also looking for a raise after earning $4.2 million last season. His agents are meeting with the Vikings Friday at the NFL Combine. Munnerlyn said he wants to play for a contender and is also looking for a place where he can finish his career. The eight-year veteran turns 29 next month.
Mar 3 - 2:53 PM

Impending free agent CB Captain Munnerlyn said he wants "to win" with his next team.

Munnerlyn did say he thinks he can win with the Vikings, but early indications have been they will not bring him back. Only 29 (in April), Munnerlyn should be a solid option for several more years to come. A return to Carolina, where he spent the first five years of his career, could make some sense.
Feb 18 - 11:20 AM

The Minneapolis Star-Tribune's Matt Vensel doesn't expect the Vikings to re-sign impending free agent CB Captain Munnerlyn.

Munnerlyn turns 29 in April and probably has a few more years of solid ball ahead, especially since he plays inside and doesn't have to rely as much on speed. Minnesota has 2016 second-rounder Mackensie Alexander waiting, and No. 1 CB Xavier Rhodes is set to land a lucrative long-term deal from the Vikings. Munnerlyn was PFF's No. 56 cover corner out of 120 qualifiers last season.

Vikings CB Captain Munnerlyn and MLB Eric Kendricks are both active for Week 11 against the Cardinals.

They're big returns for the Vikings, whose defense is the healthiest it's been in a while. Munnerlyn missed Week 10 with an ankle injury, while Kendricks has been out nursing a balky hip. The Vikings' Week 11 inactives are QB Taylor Heinicke, WR Jarius Wright, LB Edmond Robinson, OG Zac Kerin, OT Rashod Hill, DT Sharrif Floyd, and TE David Morgan.

Vikings CB Captain Munnerlyn (ankle) returned to practice Thursday.

Terence Newman also returned after sitting out Wednesday with an illness. Munnerlyn sat out last week's game against the Redskins and practice Wednesday with an ankle injury, but getting in some work Thursday gives him a shot to play. Newman will once again handle the slot duties if Munnerlyn cannot play.

Vikings CB Captain Munnerlyn (ankle) was downgraded to out for Week 10 against the Redskins.

Munnerlyn was able to get in a limited session Friday, but the odds were always against him after sitting out the first two days of practice. The veteran has been outstanding for Minnesota this season, so his absence is a big loss. Terence Newman should take over in the slot with Trae Waynes seeing more snaps outside.

Vikings CB Captain Munnerlyn was active for the start of training camp on Sunday.

There was concern he might start on active/PUP after missing OTAs with a foot injury. Munnerlyn is the Vikings' slot corner in sub-packages, but will lose his starting job to either Terence Newman or Trae Waynes this year.

Vikings CB Captain Munnerlyn (foot/ankle) is healthy for training camp.

Munnerlyn injured his foot in late May, but is healthy after two months of healing. Headed into his age-27 season, Munnerlyn will man the slot for Mike Zimmer's defense.

Vikings CB Captain Munnerlyn (foot/ankle) is in a walking boot and will be sidelined the next "couple weeks."

Munnerlyn was injured last week. He'll miss the remainder of OTAs and very likely veteran minicamp. Munnerlyn had an up-and-down first year in Minnesota and is expected to move to the slot full-time this season with the continued emergence of RCB Xavier Rhodes and addition of Terence Newman outside.

The Vikings plan to limit CB Captain Munnerlyn to nickel packages.

Munnerlyn is expected to move to the slot coming off a down 2014. He allowed five touchdowns and graded out negatively in coverage by PFF last year. Terence Newman is the favorite to start opposite RCB Xavier Rhodes, with Munnerlyn and Josh Robinson playing in sub-packages. The Vikings also haven't ruled out adding another cornerback in the draft.

Vikings removed CB Captain Munnerlyn (hamstring) from the active/PUP list.

Munnerlyn simply tweaked his hamstring before camp. He'll slide in opposite CB Xavier Rhodes and man the slot in nickel packages.
Wed, Jul 30, 2014 09:45:00 AM

Vikings placed CB Captain Munnerlyn (hamstring) on the active/PUP list.

Joining him there are TE Chase Ford and S Andrew Sendejo. Munnerlyn isn't expected to be out long after tweaking his hamstring. We'll consider him day-to-day. Munnerlyn will start opposite Xavier Rhodes in the base defense, and likely shift to the slot in sub-packages. He inked a three-year deal in March.
Fri, Jul 25, 2014 12:49:00 PM

Vikings signed CB Captain Munnerlyn to a three-year, $11.25 million contract with $4.45 million guaranteed.

Munnerlyn is obviously stretched outside at 5-foot-8 and 195 pounds, but he's one of the best slot corners in the game. Still only 26 -- he turns next month -- Munnerlyn turned in a breakout 2013 campaign as a 16-game starter, setting career highs in tackles (74), sacks (3.5), and pass breakups (12). He has four pick sixes over the past two seasons. Look for Munnerlyn to start outside on early downs and cover the slot in Mike Zimmer's nickel package.
