Colts signed DT Ricky Jean-Francois, formerly of the 49ers, to a four-year, $22 million contract.
Here's the move owner Jim Irsay assured fans they would be "FIRED UP ABOUT." It's just the latest deal from the free-spending Colts, and another questionable contract from GM Ryan Grigson, who had a nearly flawless first year on the job. Jean-Francois can play any spot on the line, but has never been a starter. Per The Sideline View's Adam Caplan, Jean-Francois has never played more than 27 percent of his team's defensive snaps in a single season. Grigson has earned the benefit of the doubt, but it seems like an overpay on the surface, much like Gosder Cherilus (five years, $34.5M) and Erik Walden's (four years, $16M) deals. Mar 14 - 3:10 PM

The Eagles and free agent DT Ricky Jean-Francois were reportedly "far apart" on dollar figures.

Jean-Francois left a visit with the Eagles and is headed for Indy. His camp no longer considers Philly an option. GM Howie Roseman could very well turn to the draft to fill their vacant 3-4 end spot. There's a ton of them available.

Free agent DT Ricky Jean-Francois is headed to Indianapolis for a visit with Colts officials.

Jean-Francois' Eagles visit has ended and his free-agent tour is continuing. Typically, players do not wind up signing with teams they visit and leave without a deal. Perhaps Philly will call Jean-Francois' agent on the flight.
Mar 13 - 6:42 PM

Free agent DT Ricky Jean-Francois plans to take visits to club facilities before signing with a team.

NFL Network's Ian Rapoport names the Titans, Eagles, Saints, and Colts as teams with Jean-Francois on their radar. It sounds like he is unlikely to sign before Wednesday afternoon. Jean-Francois has been in hot demand since the negotiating period began. The versatile utility lineman turned 26 in November.

The Akron Beacon-Journal confirms the Browns have "reached out" to free agent Ricky Jean-Francois.

Jean-Francois' agent hasn't been shy during the legal tampering period, getting his client connected to no fewer than five teams. Jean-Francois would provide versatile depth along the defensive line as the Browns switch to an attacking 3-4 defense.
Mar 11 - 12:38 PM

The Cleveland Plain Dealer says the Browns are "believed to be" interested in free agent DL Ricky Jean-Francois.

Add another to the list of suitors for Jean-Francois. The 6-foot-3, 295-pound 26-year-old lineman is a hot commodity. Cleveland could be in the market for someone to play on the three-man front with Phil Taylor and Ahtyba Rubin.
Mar 10 - 2:12 PM

The Sacramento Bee reports the Eagles are interested in free agent DL Ricky Jean-Francois.

Jean-Francois has had one of the hotter markets since the season ended. He's been connected to upwards of six teams. A bit player in San Francisco for the past four seasons, Jean-Francois has been a fine run defender and can fit in any defense. He would likely play defensive end in Philly.
Mar 10 - 11:15 AM

The Nashville Tennessean reports the Titans are interested in free agent DL Ricky Jean-Francois.

Jean-Francois is a hot commodity, and the list of teams interested in him keeps growing. He'd play defensive tackle in Tennessee's 4-3 if signed. The Titans will likely need to replace free agent DT Sen'Derrick Marks on the interior.
Mar 9 - 4:43 PM

CSN Bay Area's Matt Maiocco says there has been "no movement" in contract talks between the 49ers and free agent DL Ricky Jean-Francois.

Jean-Francois, 26, has been one of the hotter names on the market so far. His ability to play every defensive-line position makes him a fit with any team. The 6-foot-3, 295-pound lineman has been linked to the Packers, Eagles, and Ravens.
Feb 28 - 2:35 PM

A league source tells the Baltimore Sun that the Ravens have interest in free agent DL Ricky Jean-Francois.

The Ravens have publicly stated their desire to upgrade at defensive tackle, where they appear to have given up on Terrence Cody. The run-stuffing Jean-Francois would be a nice fit, but he's also been linked to the Packers, Eagles and others. The cap-strapped Ravens are unlikely to be the highest bidder.
Feb 28 - 12:02 PM

NFL.com's Ian Rapoport says to "watch the Eagles" on free agent DL Ricky Jean-Francois.

Rapoport's advice came in a tossed-off reply on Twitter, but it's the second team Jean-Francois has been linked to in the past two days. The Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel reported Monday that the Packers are interested. The Sideline View's Adam Caplan believes as many as 5-6 teams could pursue the reserve D-lineman. It's looking like Jean-Francois has played his last snap in San Francisco.
Feb 26 - 1:35 PM

The Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel reports the Packers have expressed interest in free agent DL Ricky Jean-Francois.

Jean-Francois, 26, has started just five games since entering the league in 2009, but he was the top backup for the Niners at all three defensive line spots last year. Green Bay would likely give him a chance to start at right end with Jerel Worthy's (knee) season in doubt. San Francisco is expected to let Jean-Francois test the market, even though they would like to re-sign the run-stuffer.
Feb 25 - 11:37 PM

The Sideline View's Adam Caplan reports the 49ers "want to re-sign" free agent DT Ricky Jean-Francois, and that he's expected to draw interest from 5-6 teams if he reaches the open market.

The Sacramento Bee indicated Thursday that the 49ers were planning to let Jean-Francois walk, but Caplan reports they're hoping to lock him up before the start of free agency. A four-year veteran, Jean-Francois doesn't project as a future star, but has proven to be a valuable role player. He'd provide solid insurance for an aging Justin Smith next season.
Feb 24 - 6:43 PM

The 49ers are expected to let free agent DT Ricky Jean-Francois test the open market.

They're expected to re-sign fellow free agent NT Isaac Sopoaga for "reasonable" money. Jean-Francois is only 26 and scheme versatile, capable of playing essentially every position in the defensive line whether it's in a 3-4 or 4-3. He's better suited as a rotational player, however, at 6-foot-3 and 295 pounds.
Feb 21 - 9:57 PM

The 49ers reportedly envision DL Ricky Jean-Francois playing a "big role" this season.

Aubrayo Franklin will likely go to the highest bidder in free agency, leaving veteran Isaac Sopoaga and Jean-Francois to take over at nose tackle. Jean-Francois plans to head to Miami to work out with Frank Gore and other NFL players at Bommarito Performance Systems, just as he did last offseason.
