Bears signed QB Chase Daniel, formerly of the Saints, to a two-year, $10 million contract.
He knows new coach Matt Nagy's offense from their time together in Kansas City and will help teach it to sophomore Mitch Trubisky. It's not a bad gig for $5 million annually. Daniel, 31, hasn't started a game since 2014. Mar 14 - 9:11 AM

Saints signed QB Chase Daniel, formerly of the Eagles, to a one-year contract.

Daniel goes back to where it all began. Entering his ninth season, Daniel spent the first four years of his career in New Orleans as Drew Brees' backup after making the team as an UDFA. He had a three-year stay in Kansas City before a one-year detour sent him to Philadelphia in 2016. The Eagles cut him earlier this month. Daniel, 30, had hoped to land a chance to start somewhere, but it's never happened for him. He could make Luke McCown expendable.

Free agent QB Chase Daniel is visiting the Jets on Monday.

Daniel visited the Saints on Sunday, but the Jets would figure to offer him a chance to compete for the starting job this year. That likely appeals to Daniel. The Jets don't seem to have much of a plan at quarterback. They've been connected to Jay Cutler, Josh McCown, and now Daniel the past two weeks.

The Saints are hosting free agent QB Chase Daniel on Sunday.

Current Drew Brees backup Luke McCown is getting over the hill, and former third-rounder Garrett Grayson hasn't amounted to much. Daniel spent the first four years of his career with the Saints. 30-year-old Daniel is essentially a homeless man's Brees as a short quarterback whose theoretical strength is accuracy.

Eagles released QB Chase Daniel.

Given $12 million guaranteed last offseason, Daniel requested his release Monday after the Eagles agreed to terms with Nick Foles. This situation was headed toward divorce even before the Foles' signing, however, with the Eagles shopping Daniel before free agency to no avail. The move saves Philly $1 million against the cap, although offset language in Daniel's contract could increase those savings. Now a free agent, Daniel is likely to draw interest from the Jets, who are linked with every quarterback who becomes available.

ESPN's Adam Caplan reports the Eagles are expected to release QB Chase Daniel on Monday.

Daniel reportedly requested his release, and the Eagles are going to oblige. Philadelphia tried to trade Daniel before free agency, but they were unable to find any takers. Cutting Daniel will save the Eagles just $1 million against the cap while trading him would have resulted in a $6 million savings. Philly will certainly be working the phones hard to find anyone willing to take on Daniel's contract before they make the cut official.

NJ Advance Media's Connor Hughes believes Chase Daniel would be the "best possible option" for the Jets.

The Eagles have made Daniel available for trade with his $7 million salary hefty for a backup, and the Jets are looking for a veteran bridge quarterback as they embark on a rebuild. Daniel has experience in West Coast systems, and new OC John Morton figures to bring one to New York. Both Morton and Daniel cut their teeth under Sean Payton with the Saints.

NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reports Chase Daniel is "drawing interest on the trade market."

The Eagles made Daniel the NFL's highest-paid full-time clipboard holder with a $21 million deal over three years last offseason, and now it looks like they're trying to flip Daniel. We take RapSheet's report more to mean the Eagles want to get rid of Daniel than there are teams actually trying to acquire him.

A source told NFL Network's Mike Garafolo that Chase Daniel is "not happy" the Eagles plan to start Carson Wentz (ribs) when healthy.

Despite barely playing in the preseason, the Eagles want to go with Wentz once he's recovered from his ribs injury, which could be as soon as Week 1. While we understand Daniel's frustration, he did nothing to help himself in August by turning in poor preseason performance after poor preseason performance. A career backup, Daniel will resume his usual role when Wentz gets back.

Following the trade of Sam Bradford, Chase Daniel is set to open the season as the Eagles' starter.

Even though Daniel will likely be under center Week 1, he is just keeping the spot warm for No. 2 overall pick Carson Wentz. Daniel has made two career starts, both with the Chiefs, completing a total of 50 passes for 464 yards, one touchdown, and one interception in his six-year career. Even in a great matchup against the Browns Week 1, he will not be worth using in season-long. He could be an interesting near-minimum-price option in DFS.

Eagles coach Doug Pederson confirms Chase Daniel has been signed as a backup.

"Chase Daniel is coming in as a backup, as a No. 2," were Pederson's exact words. The media has been frothing at the mouth to create a quarterback competition since Daniel was made the league's highest-paid backup, but Bradford's contract is even more ridiculous. He'll be the clear-cut starter through camp and the early part of the season. That being said, the Eagles are clearly comfortable handing over the controls to Daniel if Bradford falters or gets injured. Bradford has extensive history with both faltering and getting hurt.

FOX Sports' Mike Garafolo calls Chase Daniel's contract with the Eagles a "backup/maybe starter deal."

Daniel signed a three-year deal that has a base value of $21 million, and could be worth up to $36 million through incentives. It makes him -- by far -- the highest paid "backup" quarterback in football, and perhaps sets up Daniel to get a legitimate chance to unseat the always-shaky Bradford in training camp. Daniel's contract contains $12 million guaranteed. Although Bradford has superior physical skills, Daniel has experience in new Eagles coach Doug Pederson's offense, and Garafolo reports Pederson "loves" Daniel. This will be a battle worth monitoring all spring and summer.

Eagles agreed to terms with QB Chase Daniel, formerly of the Chiefs, on a three-year, $21 million contract with $12 million guaranteed.

Daniel was near the top of a typically thin quarterback market, but has had to settle for a clear No. 2 job instead of a competition elsewhere. It's still not a bad landing spot. Daniel is reuniting with ex-Chiefs OC Doug Pederson and will be backing up one of the league's shakiest and most injury prone starters in Sam Bradford. Daniel will probably make starts at some point during his deal. Daniel's addition means Mark Sanchez will be released. It's worth noting that Daniel's deal is longer than Bradford's.

ESPN's Dianna Marie Russini reports the Eagles are the "favorite" for free agent Chase Daniel, but that three teams are "heavily involved."

Daniel is easily one of the 3-4 best quarterbacks available, but would remain a backup in Philadelphia. Of course, considering Sam Bradford's history of injury (and ineffectiveness), the Eagles are surely willing to pay Daniel a top No. 2 rate. Daniel could have to end up choosing between money and a quarterback competition elsewhere.

FOX Sports' Mike Garafolo reports free agent Chase Daniel remains a possibility in Philadelphia.

It's highly unlikely after the Eagles re-signed Sam Bradford. Daniel will only end up in Philadelphia as a backup if he's greeted by a frigid market. It's possible, but unlikely in a league so starved for quarterback talent. Daniel should get the opportunity to at least be a part of a competition elsewhere.
