Lions placed RB James Davis on the practice squad injured list.
It took just one day for Davis to get injured. The Lions' backfield situation is as murky as ever with the Jerome Harrison trade getting voided and Jahvid Best's status completely unknown. Thu, Oct 20, 2011 11:04:00 AM

Lions signed RB James Davis to their practice squad.

It's not good news for Jahvid Best owners. Although there is no word on the severity of Best's concussion, the Lions now have four healthy backs available in Davis, Maurice Morris, Ronnie Brown, and Keiland Williams. Davis won't be on the active roster unless further injuries strike.

Texans signed RB James Davis to their practice squad.

Davis, 25, has proven a replacement-level talent since being drafted out of Clemson in 2009, but the Texans have become the new early-2000s Broncos as a team that can churn out rushing yardage schematically. Davis is also familiar with the stretch-zone running system after spending 2010 with Mike Shanahan.

Redskins waived RB James Davis.

Davis seems likely to go unclaimed after walking out on the Redskins. The 2009 sixth-rounder would then be free to sign wherever he wants, though he's a longshot to make any team's final roster.

The Redskins will reportedly grant RB James Davis his release.

Placed on the reserve/left squad list after taking exception to not making an appearance in the Redskins' preseason opener on August 12, Davis will be searching for his third team in two years. A sixth-round pick of the Browns in 2009, he's taken the ball just 75 yards on 28 career carries.

Redskins placed RB James Davis on the reserve/left squad list.

Davis was reportedly upset after being left out of the rotation in the preseason opener, though the Redskins deny that he got into a shouting match with his position coach. Davis quickly fell out of favor with the Shanahans late last season after failing to impress the Eric Mangini staff in Cleveland. It's safe to cut bait in deep Dynasty leagues.
Tue, Aug 16, 2011 03:42:00 PM

Redskins RB James Davis has reportedly walked out of training camp over dissatisfaction with his playing time and reps.

He would've been better off just asking the Redskins to waive him, instead of coming off as a player with an artificially inflated opinion of himself. Davis is reportedly "still MIA," and his absence is considered unexcused. The third-year running back was buried on the depth chart even with Ryan Torain out.
Mon, Aug 15, 2011 02:25:00 PM

Redskins RB James Davis' pass-blocking skills "left a lot to be desired" in a two-game audition late last season.

Deep-roster Dynasty leaguers continue to cling to the hope that Davis will emerge as a fantasy factor, but he's now fallen out of favor with two coaching staffs in two years. After closing out last season as a game-day inactive, Davis has an uphill climb to make the Redskins roster in 2011.
Wed, Jun 22, 2011 11:26:00 AM

Redskins declared RB James Davis, RB Andre Brown, T Jammal Brown, C/G Erik Cook, LB Brian Orakpo, S Reed Doughty, S Kareem Moore and third QB Donovan McNabb inactive for Sunday's game against the Jaguars.

Davis appears to be a healthy scratch, leaving Ryan Torain and Keiland Williams all alone to shoulder the load. The Skins are missing five defensive starters, including three of their four opening day safeties. David Garrard and the Jaguars should have no problems moving the ball through the air.

James Davis rushed nine times for 40 yards and added three catches for 41 yards in Sunday's loss to the Giants.

For the second straight week, Davis came off the bench behind Keiland Williams. But once again, Davis was treated as the feature back for most of the game -- and with good reason. Davis is much quicker to the hole than Williams and gets to the edge easier. He'll keep getting chances down the stretch, but the upside here is still capped by Williams' presence and Ryan Torain's eventual return.
Sun, Dec 5, 2010 05:50:00 PM

James Davis rushed six times for 11 yards and added a four-yard reception in Sunday's loss to the Vikings.

Coach Mike Shanahan hinted all week that Davis was going to get significant work off the bench, and he was true to his word. Davis took over as the main early-down back ahead of Keiland Williams as the game wore on, but was unimpressive at best. With Ryan Torain (hamstring) expected back eventually, this is a low upside situation.
Sun, Nov 28, 2010 04:42:00 PM

Redskins coach Mike Shanahan intends for James Davis to get some carries in Week 12 against Minnesota.

Keiland Williams will start, and recent practice squad call-up Davis will be his change of pace. "You never know how somebody's going to do until they actually play," said Shanahan. "But I like what I've seen in practice. He's handled himself very well, so hopefully he take advantage of his opportunity."
Fri, Nov 26, 2010 04:28:00 PM

Coach Mike Shanahan confirmed that James Davis will back up Keiland Williams on Sunday.

Davis is going to get some reps this week, and is on the fantasy radar as a stash. He flashed plenty of talent in Browns' camp in 2009 and Shanahan is known for unexpected shifts in his backfield.
Thu, Nov 25, 2010 01:26:00 PM

Redskins signed RB James Davis off their practice squad.

Davis, 24, is in line to back up Keiland Williams until (and if) Clinton Portis (groin) and Ryan Torain (hamstring) get healthy. The Skins are known to be high on Davis and Mike Shanahan's backfields are always susceptible to change at a moment's notice, so Davis is worth a look in 12-team leagues.
Mon, Nov 22, 2010 03:26:00 PM

The Redskins are not expected to sign RB James Davis from their practice squad prior to Monday night's game.

Beat writer Ryan O'Halloran takes this to mean that either Ryan Torain (hamstring) or Clinton Portis (groin) will be ready to face the Eagles. The most likely to be active and start is Torain. The Redskins still appear to be high on Davis, and he could surface on the roster later in the season. Neither Torain nor Portis is a good bet to stay healthy all year.
