Free agent Austin Collie (knee) acknowledges that he likely won't be 100 percent until October.
Collie ruptured his right patella tendon late last September. He's "optimistic" about being ready for training camp, but might not be ready to contribute right off the bat. Collie also has a long history of concussions. After interviewing Collie, SI's Don Banks suggests he'll be open to a one-year, prove-it deal. Mar 6 - 5:22 PM

Free agent Austin Collie (knee) is "optimistic" he'll be ready for training camp.

Collie ruptured his right patellar tendon in Week 3 and missed the rest of last season. It remains to be seen which camp he'll be in, though, after the Colts announced that they will not re-sign the injury-riddled slot receiver. Patellar tendon tears are tough injuries to come back from.

The Indianapolis Star's Bob Kravitz reports that the Colts will not re-sign free agents Dwight Freeney and Austin Collie.

We already knew Freeney wouldn't be back. The "news" is Indianapolis' decision to part with Collie, who is coming off a ruptured right patellar tendon in addition to several previous concussions. One Colts source told Kravitz that, "If Collie had come along the same time as (Peyton) Manning, and had stayed healthy, he would have put up Welker like numbers." We wouldn't be surprised to see Collie reunite with Manning in Denver, replacing Brandon Stokley at slot receiver.

Austin Collie has been diagnosed with a ruptured right patella tendon, and is done for the season.

It's the worst possible news for one of the league's most snakebitten players, and clouds Collie's status for Week 1 2013. Ruptured patella tendons are typically trickier to come back from than torn ACLs. The upshot is that it gives Collie another year to recover from his fourth concussion in 21 months, but that's probably not much of a silver lining for a player who fought hard to make his 2012 debut on Sunday. Two months shy of his 27th birthday, Collie will be a free agent in the offseason. It's quite possible his Colts career is through. For 2012, it means Donnie Avery is now entrenched as Andrew Luck's No. 2 receiver, and that rookies T.Y. Hilton, Coby Fleener and LaVon Brazill will be bigger parts of the game-plan going forward.

Austin Collie will have a Monday MRI on his right knee.

Making his return from his latest concussion, Collie lasted just three quarters. Per the Indy Star, the knee injury "appeared serious" and he couldn't put any weight on his right leg. "That's just a terrible, terrible thing," coach Chuck Pagano said. Donnie Avery will resume every-down wideout duties while Collie is out.

Austin Collie was carted off the field with a knee injury in the third quarter of Sunday's Week 3 game against Jacksonville.

His return was listed as "doubtful," meaning he's not coming back into the game. Collie was making his 2012 debut after missing Weeks 1-2 with a concussion. The extent of the injury is currently unknown, but early indications are that it isn't good. Collie played sparingly off the bench Sunday, rotating with rookie T.Y. Hilton in the third receiver role behind Reggie Wayne and Donnie Avery. Collie had one catch for six yards.

Austin Collie is active for Sunday's game against the Jaguars, but Donnie Avery is in the starting lineup over him.

The two may form a rotation opposite Reggie Wayne, making the Colts' No. 2 receiver position a dicey investment from a fantasy perspective. Collie's return is great news for his fantasy outlook long term, but we couldn't recommend using him in an already difficult matchup without a guaranteed full complement of snaps. The Colts' Week 3 inactives are DE Dwight Freeney, QB Chandler Harnish, CB Josh Gordy, RB Delone Carter, LB Pat Angerer, OT Bradley Sowell, and OG Joe Reitz.

Austin Collie (concussion) is listed as probable for Week 3.

Collie participated in full practices Wednesday through Friday and it appears he's on track to be active for his first game of 2012. The Colts say he still needs the approval of a doctor to be met with on Saturday, however. We'd probably give Collie a week to prove his health before putting him in fantasy lineups.

Coach Chuck Pagano revealed that Austin Collie (concussion) will have to meet with doctors Saturday before gaining clearance to play versus the Jaguars.

Collie had a "good week" of full practices, but the Colts are taking extra precautions after he had a Thursday setback a week ago. If Collie does get the green light from doctors on Saturday, we tentatively expect him to resume starting over Donnie Avery opposite Reggie Wayne.

Austin Collie (concussion) was a full participant in Colts practice for the second straight day Thursday.

Collie's "full" practice on Wednesday was hard to put stock in because he was also "full" last Wednesday, but it's extremely positive news he's gotten in full sessions back-to-back days. Collie sat out last Thursday. Considering Collie's concussion history and coach Chuck Pagano's unreliability on injury information, it won't be wise to assume Collie is playing until inactives are announced Sunday, but things are headed in the right direction.

Austin Collie (concussion) was officially "full" in Wednesday's practice.

It's positive news, though Collie was "full" last Wednesday before ultimately being listed as doubtful on the injury report and not playing against the Vikings. At this point, owners shouldn't believe Collie is returning until they see it. Even if the Colts guarantee he'll be active Sunday, it would be best to wait a week before considering getting him into your lineup.

Austin Collie (concussions) will practice on Wednesday.

We've learned not to overreact to early-week activities from Collie. He'll be checked out by doctors after the workout and the Colts will take it from there. We probably won't get a good read on Collie's status until Friday.

Colts declared WR Austin Collie (concussion) and RE/OLB Dwight Freeney inactive for Week 2 against the Vikings.

RT Winston Justice and LG Joe Reitz are also inactive, leaving the Colts as one of the league's more short-handed teams heading into Week 2. Coach Chuck Pagano projected optimism all week on both his No. 2 receiver and lead pass rusher, but it's become quite clear he's not someone to be trusted on injury information. Collie should once again be day-to-day going into Week 3, while Freeney may be lucky to return before October. Donnie Avery will make his second consecutive start in Collie's place. Also inactive for the Colts are RB Delone Carter, QB Chandler Harnish and LB Pat Angerer.

Austin Collie (concussion) is doubtful for Week 2 versus the Vikings and did not practice on Friday.

So much for the expectation that Collie would be available this week. Collie was held out of Thursday's practice because he showed up feeling less than 100 percent after Wednesday's full participation. Considering his history, doctors are advising him to sit out another week. We still believe Collie is worthy of a roster spot in 12-team leagues. Whenever he does play, there are solid WR3 expectations.

According to the Terre Haute Tribune-Star, Austin Collie (concussion) is still expected to play versus the Vikings in Week 2 after sitting out practice on Thursday.

"He could line up anywhere. He has the position flexibility to do anything. He would start out wide and go from there," OC Bruce Arians said. "Austin hasn't really been out there, other than that one practice, for about a month." Considering Collie's history and coach Chuck Pagano's recent waffling, we would like to see a direct quote from the Colts confirming the receiver's availability before inserting him into fantasy lineups. Check back Friday afternoon for an update on his status.
