Colts waived QB Nate Davis.
Davis has never lacked NFL-caliber tools, but work ethic and intelligence have been problematic. It's not a good sign that he was cut after Curtis Painter played so miserably in the Colts' preseason opener. Combined, Painter and Dan Orlovsky completed just 7-of-16 passes for 166 yards and three INTs. Mon, Aug 15, 2011 03:08:00 PM

Colts agreed to terms with Nate Davis on a two-year contract.

Davis has a monster arm and is very athletic, but it's a bad sign that both the 49ers and Seahawks have given up on him already. In Indy, he'll step right in as the No. 3 quarterback and will get reps early in camp as Peyton Manning rehabs from his neck injury.

Former NFL scout Dave Razzano believes the Seahawks were "way too hasty" in waiving QB Nate Davis last month.

The 49ers also gave up on Davis, and Razzano believes "locker room demeanor" has been his downfall thus far. "The Niners screwed up by not playing him and it cost Singletary potential millions in earnings," said Razzano. "Whoever plays this guy will look like a genius!" Davis may be an extreme longshot, but he's still worth tracking in deep Dynasty leagues.

Seahawks waived QB Nate Davis.

This can't be good. Davis was due a minimum salary after signing a futures deal seven weeks ago. The Seahawks had nothing to lose by at least bringing him to camp. Davis' work ethic concerns might have resurfaced during his brief stint on the 80-man roster. It will be interesting to see if he clears waivers.

Seahawks signed QB Nate Davis to a reserve/future contract.

Davis' questionable work ethic and slow learning curve had him in and out of 49ers coach Mike Singletary's doghouse the past couple of seasons. He's not without talent, however, and has shown promise in preseason action. As far as third quarterbacks go, Davis has more upside than most.

49ers QB Nate Davis said he plans on returning to the 49ers next season.

Davis spent the entire 2010 season on the practice squad as the No. 4 quarterback and the Niners are yet to tell him if he'll be offered a future contract. Davis has raw talent and his fate will be determined by the next head coach in San Francisco. He's a long-term project on a team with only David Carr under contract for 2011 at quarterback.

Coach Mike Singletary said Sunday that the 49ers will consider promoting Nate Davis from their practice squad prior to the team's Week 8 game in London.

Singletary indicated that he wasn't comfortable with David Carr under center down the stretch of Sunday's loss to Carolina, and Alex Smith may miss the game due to a left shoulder sprain. Third QB Troy Smith is another option.

49ers signed QB Nate Davis to their practice squad.

Fellow project QB Jarrett Brown was released from the eight-man squad to make room. It's not a great sign for Davis that he easily passed through waivers. His ability is unquestioned, but teams believe he's a slow learner.

49ers coach Mike Singletary told KNBR 1050 in San Francisco that the team hopes to add QB Nate Davis to their practice squad.

The Niners must wait until Wednesday to see if he clears waivers. Singletary has called out Davis publicly for his lack of work ethic, but evidently he doesn't think it's as big of a deal if the quarterback is just on the practice squad.

49ers waived QB Nate Davis.

The former 5th-round pick had a promising preseason, but was called out by coach Mike Singletary for having a lack of work ethic and ultimately failed to stick on the 53-man roster.

NFL Network's Mike Lombardi is "hearing" that the 49ers will waive Nate Davis "within the next hour."

Coach Mike Singletary made no small deal of Davis' lacking work ethic in the preseason, despite promising performances. The 49ers may have their eye on a punt return candidate. Kyle Williams (toe) won't be ready for Week 1.

Despite speculation he wouldn't make it, the 49ers did decide to keep third QB Nate Davis on their 53-man roster.

While Davis still has a long way to go, Mike Singletary's public criticism indicates to us that the coach sees him as a possible long-term solution. Head coaches rarely speak so openly and often about a third-stringer. In order to meet that expectation, though, Davis' work ethic must improve.

49ers No. 3 QB Nate Davis went 11-of-22 for 103 yards with one touchdown and two interceptions in Thursday's preseason finale.

After the game, coach Mike Singletary admitted that Davis' roster spot is in jeopardy. Singletary already publicly blasted Davis following the second preseason game and didn't use him at all in the third contest. His cannon arm will be a game-day inactive even if he makes the team.

A week after being reprimanded by Mike Singletary for blowing play calls, 49ers third quarterback Nate Davis did not play in Saturday's preseason game.

We were optimistic that Singletary's harangue about Davis' performance in the second exhibition game was a motivational tactic, but it doesn't appear so. Davis should at least get a shot to redeem himself somewhat in the preseason finale behind David Carr. Alex Smith will play sparingly, if at all.

49ers third-string quarterback Nate Davis admits that he didn't put enough work in this offseason.

Coach Mike Singletary publicly ripped Davis after Monday's exhibition game, questioning whether the second-year prospect studied the playbook over the spring. Davis has a cannon, but isn't close to pushing David Carr for the No. 2 job.
