Bengals re-signed MLB Rey Maualuga to a three-year, $15 million contract.
The word comes from in-house reporter Geoff Hobson. Maualuga is a thoroughly-mediocre player, but has been with the Bengals since 2009, and provides insurance for Vontaze Burfict (knee surgeries). A two-down run stopper, Maualuga piled up 59 tackles across 452 snaps last season. Mar 5 - 3:44 PM

Geoff Hobson of the Bengals' official website believes the team "covets" and would like to re-sign impending free agent MLB Rey Maualuga.

Maualuga is about as average a linebacker there is, but he's the captain of the defense and a physical two-down thumper. He won't break the bank, and the Bengals have plenty of cap room and like to keep their own players instead of wildly throwing money around in free agency. Look for Maualuga to return.

Bengals MLB Rey Maualuga was forced from Cincinnati's Wild Card game against the Colts with a hamstring injury, and will not return.

The sixth-year veteran was plagued by hamstring issues earlier this season, missing four games. He's highly unlikely to be ready should the Bengals advance to the Divisional Round. A two-down thumper, Maualuga was barely replacement level in 2014. He's headed to the open market.

Bengals MLB Rey Maualuga (hamstring) is not expected back for a few more weeks.

Maualuga suffered a severe pull in Week 6 against the Panthers, adding to the Bengals' decimation at linebacker. Backup Vinny Rey had 16 tackles against the Colts in Week 7.

Bengals MLB Rey Maualuga (hamstring) is inactive for Sunday's Week 7 game against the Colts.

Maualuga pulled his hamstring in the Week 6 tie with the Panthers. He'll be replaced by Vinny Rey.

Bengals MLB Rey Maualuga left Sunday's Week 6 tie with a hamstring injury and did not return.

Maualuga went down in the fourth quarter and then watched Emmanuel Lamur (shoulder) leave a little later. The severity of both injuries is unknown.

According to Pro Football Focus, Bengals MLB Rey Maualuga missed 14.8 percent of his tackle opportunities in the 2013 regular season.

Maualuga missed on 13-of-88 tackle opportunities in 13 games. Only Mychal Kendricks (16.5) and Derrick Johnson (16.4) missed tackles at a greater clip among inside linebackers. One season removed from being PFF's lowest graded inside linebacker out of 53 qualifiers, Maualuga again proved to be a liability.

Beat writer Coley Harvey suggests Rey Maualuga (knee) won't return to an every-down role once healed.

Backup Vinny Rey has been a revelation, forcing the coaches to keep giving him snaps no matter what. Over the last two games, he's racked up 27 tackles, three sacks, one interception and four pass breakups. It's the kind of production Maualuga has never been able to muster. Expect the snaps to be split fairly evenly once the Bengals come out of their bye.

Bengals MLB Rey Maualuga (knee) is tentatively expected back after the Week 12 bye.

Maualuga is dealing with a sprained MCL. It leaves the Bengals without three of their core defenders in Maualuga, Geno Atkins and Leon Hall. Backup DT Devon Still (elbow) is also sidelined. Once an elite unit, the Bengals defense is shaping up as one to attack from a fantasy perspective as they head into a Week 10 game at Baltimore.

ESPN's Adam Schefter reports Bengals MLB Rey Maualuga's sprained MCL is expected to sideline him 3-4 weeks.

It's good news that Maualuga has avoided a torn ACL, but he'll likely miss all of November, as the Bengals are on bye in Week 12. Maualuga has graded out as a bottom-10 inside linebacker in Pro Football Focus' ratings. Vontaze Burfict should hold down the middle, with Michael Boley manning the weak side.

Bengals MLB Rey Maualuga has been diagnosed with a MCL injury.

It's a relieving diagnosis for the Bengals and Maualuga. Things looked bad as he crumpled to the turf and had to be carted off Sunday. We'll have a timetable once the Bengals determine the severity of the sprain.

Bengals MLB Rey Maualuga was forced from Sunday's Week 8 game against the Jets with a left knee injury.

Maualuga and Chris Ivory collided at the line of scrimmage like two rams locking horns. Maualuga lost the battle and went limp as he crumpled to the ground. The cart came out for the 26-year-old and he was taken away. Michael Boley took Maualuga's place in the lineup. Vontaze Burfict will likely move to the middle.

Coach Marvin Lewis said he plans to leave Rey Maualuga at middle linebacker this season.

Following an ineffective season that saw him grade out as one of the league's worst starting middle linebackers, it was widely assumed that Maualuga would kick outside and allow WLB Vontaze Burfict to man the middle. Lewis is surprisingly squashing that notion. The news does leave Maualuga on the IDP radar as he compiled 122 tackles a year ago.

Bengals re-signed LB Rey Maualuga to a two-year contract.

DC Mike Zimmer gets his wish. Coming off a rocky 2012, Maualuga's market never heated up. His only visits were to the Giants and Arizona. One of the league's worst interior linebackers last season, Maualuga will move to the strong side after WLB Vontaze Burfict made a convincing case to become the Bengals' franchise middle linebacker. Meanwhile, Bengals owner Mike Brown continues to sit on the largest salary cap stash in football, but has only re-signed cheap in-house free agents Maualuga, Rob Geathers, and Wallace Gilberry. We can't forget about Mike Nugent the kicker and Clark Harris the long snapper. Brown's hilariously obsessive cheapskating should surprise no one, though. He does it every year.
Mon, Mar 18, 2013 11:08:00 AM reports "indications are" that the team is "closing in" on deals for free agents LB Rey Maualuga and CB Adam "Pacman" Jones.

Maualuga made free-agent visits last week to the Cardinals and Giants, but both teams went in different directions. Maualuga would be a good keep as a two-down strong-side linebacker, but he can't play the middle anymore. Jones hasn't drawn any interest, so he could likely be kept on a cheap one-year deal.
