Falcons DT Peria Jerry (quad) is questionable for Sunday's game against the Bucs.
Jerry didn't practice all week. The Falcons are listing him, Asante Samuel (shoulder) and Sean Weatherspoon (ankle) as game-time decisions. Samuel and Weatherspoon returned to practice on a limited basis Friday. If Jerry is ruled out, Corey Peters will replace him in the starting lineup. Sat, Nov 24, 2012 07:14:00 PM

Falcons DT Peria Jerry was forced from Atlanta's Week 9 game against the Cowboys with a knee injury, and will not return.

Jerry departed just before halftime. A full-time starter for the first time since being the No. 24 pick of the 2009 draft, Jerry has graded out as one of Pro Football Focus' worst defensive tackles through eight weeks.

Falcons DT Peria Jerry believes he's turned a corner after battling early-career knee problems.

The 24th overall pick in the 2009 draft, Jerry "tore just about everything" in his knee as a rookie and hasn't been the same since. It should be noted that there were also positive 2011 training camp reports on Jerry. He went on to go sack-less with 10 tackles in 16 games. Jerry will remain a backup in 2012.

According to ESPN.com's Pat Yasinskas, Falcons DT Peria Jerry "tore just about everything in his knee" early in his rookie season.

There were conflicting reports throughout 2009-2010, largely because the cryptic Falcons refused to comment on the injury. Jerry was still limping eight months after the surgery, and the 24th pick in the 2009 draft hasn't been the same since. Coach Mike Smith insists the Falcons remain "committed" to Jerry, who played 30 percent of the snaps last season.

Falcons DT Peria Jerry (knee) has been "flying around the field" early in camp.

After shedding the knee brace he wore all of last season, the 2009 first-rounder is playing with a renewed confidence. The Falcons have gotten nothing out of Jerry to date, but it sounds like he's ready to push Corey Peters out of a starting job as more of penetrating force inside.

Coach Mike Smith has "no doubt" that Peria Jerry can still be disruptive force at defensive tackle.

The Falcons have gotten very little return on their first-round investment, bringing Jerry along slowly as a situational player in 2010. Smith insists Jerry was "penetrating and getting into the backfield and creating tackles for losses" by the end of the season. While it's too early to label Jerry a bust, it's critical that he develops into a starter this year.

Falcons DT Peria Jerry is still not over his 2009 ACL tear entering Week 16 of the 2010 season.

"He's still not quite there," DL coach Ray Hamilton said. "But he is getting better. He's gotten better over the last couple of weeks. He's getting there." Jerry has only been a situational player this season, playing primarily on passing downs, getting about 18-20 snaps per game. The 2009 first-round pick has seven tackles and one sack through 14 appearances.

Falcons DT Peria Jerry made his 2010 preseason debut Friday against the Dolphins.

Jerry, who lined up against younger brother LG John Jerry, tallied a QB hit and a tackle. The team had to have loved what Jerry did Friday, but will look to ease him back into the lineup before turning him loose for good.

Falcons DT Peria Jerry (leg) will make his 2010 preseason debut Friday at Miami.

Perry is expected to start, but coach Mike Smith cautioned that he's not back to pre-injury form just yet. "It'll be an opportunity for us to evaluate what Peria is," said Smith. Jerry still seems unlikely to be an impact player early in the season.

Falcons DT Peria Jerry (leg) is expected to graduate from individual drills to full participation in next week's practices.

"I don’t believe there is any concern about him being ready for the regular season," coach Mike Smith said. The Falcons hope to see him in game action by the end of the exhibition season. At this point, he seems unlikely to have a major impact in the first few games of the season.

Falcons DT Peria Jerry (leg) and WR Harry Douglas (knee) were cleared by Dr. James Andrews just prior to the start of camp.

Their practice reps are being limited for now, but both players are fully expected to play in Week 1. Jerry was even listed as a starter on Atlanta's pre-training camp depth chart. Douglas will work the slot and return punts.

Falcons DT Peria Jerry (knee) is expected to be ready for workouts when training camp opens on Thursday.

GM Thomas Dimitroff indicated that the team will proceed with caution, so Jerry may just be limited to individual drills early on. Still, this is positive news after the conflicting reports on Jerry's knee throughout the offseason. He has a shot to be ready for Week 1.

Responding to whispers that DT Peria Jerry's knee injury was more serious than the team let on, a source with knowledge of the situation tells Profootballtalk.com that the Falcons are not concerned about the situation.

The Falcons have only themselves to blame for the rumors, as they've never disclosed the details of Jerry's injury. In fact, PFT's source now says that Jerry's ACL was never damaged. The injury is believed to have been bone related, and a different ligament may have also been involved. Jerry is now expected to be ready to go when training camp opens, though we remain skeptical that he'll be close 100 percent.

According to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, "rumors continue to fly" about Falcons DT Peria Jerry's slow recover from offseason knee surgery.

Though the injury is widely described as a torn ACL, whispers have spread that Jerry's malady is bone-related. It's possible Jerry is dealing with a "bone-on-bone" condition, involving the loss of cartilage around the knee. He was spotted "limping noticeably" at May OTAs, and may not be ready for Week 1.
