Saints C Max Unger (Lisfranc) said he's aiming for a Week 1 return.
Unger required foot surgery in May and was initially billed questionable for the start of the season. That talk has quieted down considerably, with coach Sean Payton saying last month that he expects Unger to be back late in the preseason. Unger doesn't require preseason work as a ninth-year veteran, but it would be nice. Either way, it sounds like he'll be ready for real games. Jun 14 - 3:09 PM

Saints coach Sean Payton expects C Max Unger (foot surgery) to return by Week 3 of the preseason.

Pro Football Talk reported as much earlier in the week. The timeline gives him a couple week cushion to be ready for the start of the season even if he suffers a minor setback in camp. Senio Kelemete is expected to get the first-team work at center while Unger is sidelined.

Pro Football Talk reports the Saints expect C Max Unger (foot surgery) to return during the preseason.

Unger underwent foot surgery over the weekend. NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reported Unger is doubtful for Week 1, but the Saints are apparently more optimistic. If New Orleans does expect him back during training camp, they are unlikely to seek out a short-term replacement option via trade.

Saints C Max Unger underwent foot surgery this past weekend and remains questionable for the start of the season.

NFL Network's Ian Rapoport called Unger doubtful for Week 1, but Saints beat writers say it's too early to make that claim. Unger dealt with a foot issue last season and finally needed surgery to fix it. The Saints may explore outside options to replace Unger at the pivot. The Eagles have dangled C Jason Kelce in trade talks before.
May 8 - 11:42 AM

NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reports Saints C Max Unger injured his foot and is expected to miss the start of the season.

The nature of the injury isn't yet known, but it sounds like Unger has a broken foot or Lisfranc injury. The Saints let top backup Tim Lelito walk as a free agent, so there isn't a clear replacement for Unger. Senio Kelemete may make the most sense, or the Saints could explore a trade. Veteran Nick Mangold is still on the free-agent market after his release by the Jets.

Saints signed C Max Unger to a three-year extension through 2019.

According to the New Orleans Times-Picayune, the new deal is worth "north" of $7 million per year. Headed into his age-30 campaign, Unger graded out as Pro Football Focus' No. 9 center last season after coming over in a trade from the Seahawks. Despite the solid 2015, it's a bit surprising the Saints are locking up a 30-year-old pivot through the next four seasons.

The Saints have interest in an extension for C Max Unger.

Unger's in the final season of a five-year, $25.5 million deal signed in 2012. The Saints view him as more than a short-term rental after trading Jimmy Graham for him and could free up cap space with an extension. 29-year-old Unger regressed with his run blocking last year, but graded as PFF's No. 7 pass-blocking center.

Saints acquired C Max Unger and the No. 31 overall pick in the 2015 draft in exchange for TE Jimmy Graham and a 2015 fourth-round pick.

Unger, 29 next month, was Pro Football Focus' No. 4 center last season, displaying dominance as a run blocker. He'll now pave lanes for Mark Ingram in New Orleans. Unger is entering the fourth year of a five-year, $25.5 million deal. The Saints were in desperate need of a center with Jonathan Goodwin a free agent and no real replacement on the roster. Trading Graham to fill this need is a highly questionable move by GM Mickey Loomis. At least he also gets a first-round pick.

Seahawks C Max Unger (ankle) was a full participant in Wednesday's practice.

Unger missed the final six weeks of the season with a high-ankle sprain, but was able to return for the Divisional round. He appears to have escaped the game without any setbacks, and will be ready to rock against the Packers.

Seahawks C Max Unger (ankle) is active for the Divisional Round against the Panthers.

Jermaine Kearse (hamstring) is also active. Unger has been sidelined since Week 11. His return is a big boost for Marshawn Lynch and the Seahawks' running game. Inactive for the Seahawks are TE Tony Moeaki, S Jeron Johnson, CB Marcus Burley, OG Lemuel Jeanpierre, OG Keavon Milton, DT Landon Cohen and WR Kevin Norwood.

Seahawks C Max Unger (high-ankle sprain) is expected to be ready for Saturday's Divisional Round game against the Panthers.

Unger has been sidelined since Week 12, and made just two appearances since Week 5. He's one of the league's better centers when healthy, so it's a nice boost for the defending champions.

Coach Pete Carroll said C Max Unger will miss 3-4 weeks with a high-ankle sprain and twisted knee.

The Seahawks will roll with Patrick Lewis at center for the next month as they contend for a playoff spot. Unger just missed five weeks with a foot injury.

Seahawks coach Pete Carroll said C Max Unger suffered a high-ankle sprain Week 11 against the Chiefs.

Unger also tweaked his knee when he was rolled up from behind in the fourth quarter. Unger was only in his second game back after missing four weeks with a foot injury. If it is a true high-ankle sprain, Unger is likely looking at another extended absence. The Seahawks turned to Patrick Lewis after Unger left the game.

Seahawks C Max Unger exited Week 11 against the Chiefs with a leg injury.

Unger had his left leg rolled up from behind. He stayed down on the field for several minutes before being carted off. He is doubtful to return. Only in his second game back from a foot injury that sidelined him four weeks, Unger is a vital piece of the Seahawks' offensive line. Patrick Lewis replaced him at center.

Seahawks C Max Unger (foot) will play against the Giants Week 10.

Unger has been inactive since injuring his foot against the Redskins Week 5. Steve Schilling and Patrick Lewis both struggled in his place. The return of Unger along with the expected return of LT Russell Okung should provide a big boost to the struggling Seahawks offense.
