Lions FS Louis Delmas (knees) isn't taking part in minicamp, and refused to provide an update on his status Tuesday.

"I don't know what to tell you, I've been hurt," Delmas said defensively. "Can you leave me alone, seriously." Delmas went on to half-heartedly claim his knee felt "great." It's unknown if the oft-injured safety will be ready for training camp. "Lou is working hard," coach Jim Schwartz said. "He'll be back on the field sometime."

"He's not here right now but there's nothing he can get out of this because he can't physically do the stuff we're doing," coach Jim Schwartz said. "The biggest thing with Lou is going to be his health and that's what he's working on." Delmas was limited to eight games in 2012 after an August knee procedure. It's unclear if he went under-the-knife again after the season. Thanks to his injury history, the majority of Delmas' 2013 salary is tied up in per-game roster bonuses.

The Lions are considering limiting FS Louis Delmas' practice time this season in order to keep him healthy.

Delmas should like the idea because much of his contract is tied to playing time. "If he needs to be managed, he's a guy who can handle that," said GM Martin Mayhew. Added coach Jim Schwartz, "The biggest thing is him being healthy enough to stay on the field." The Lions took this approach with Kyle Vanden Bosch. Vanden Bosch did not miss a game in his final two seasons with Detroit.

Lions re-signed FS Louis Delmas to a two-year, $9.465 million contract.

A Thursday report claimed Delmas had signed with the 49ers, but it proved erroneous. Delmas, 26 in April, has missed 13 games over the past two seasons with various injuries, but his knees and groin apparently checked out. A hard hitter with range, 5-foot-11, 202-pound Delmas is an absolute missile who drew Bob Sanders comparisons coming out of Western Michigan. His upside is to take the next step in his career as a premier cover safety with plenty of run-support chops. His downside is a talented player who can't beat the injury bug. Through four NFL seasons, Delmas has three interceptions, 16 pass breakups, three sacks, and two forced fumbles. He'll play free safety with Glover Quin now manning the strong side and Amari Spievey as the top backup.

Free agent FS Louis Delmas has left St. Louis and is headed to San Francisco for a visit.

One of the Rams' perceived targets has skipped town. In need of a playmaking safety to replace the released Quintin Mikell, they'll now have to turn to options like Bernard Pollard, Kerry Rhodes or LaRon Landry. The Niners, meanwhile, are also thought to be in the market for Charles Woodson after letting cover safety Dashon Goldson walk to the Bucs.

Jake Long is also there. The Rams haven't locked down either player yet, which is fairly atypical if an organization truly has designs on signing a player. Delmas, 26, has also drawn interest from Denver since free agency began.

The Denver Post reports the Broncos are interested in free agent S Louis Delmas, but have yet to schedule a visit.

The Broncos continue to be surprisingly active in free agency. Delmas is visiting the Rams on Wednesday, which is thus far his only scheduled trip. It's possible he won't leave St. Louis without a deal.

The Rams have been linked to Delmas for the past few days, and he would fill a major need. St. Louis needs two new safeties after releasing Quintin Mikell on Sunday night. Delmas hasn't been connected anywhere else as of yet.

"Indications are" the Rams are targeting free agent S Louis Delmas.

It's the first team Delmas has been linked to, but not the first blue-chip free agent the Rams are kicking the tires on. Delmas would fill a major need in St. Louis, but would have to be open to an incentive-laden deal. That should be the case wherever the injury-prone safety visits.

NFL Network's Albert Breer reports free agent S Louis Delmas has an offer on the table from the Lions, but Delmas still plans to test the market.

In other words, the offer wasn't great. Delmas exited the Lions' facility on Friday with pessimistic about his future -- or lack thereof -- in Detroit. "The Lions are cheating on me," he said. "They’re going to the club every damn night and staying out late night, trying to come back home to Daddy." Plenty of teams could use Delmas in the backend, including Philly, St. Louis, Minnesota, and Kansas City.

"If something could get done today, something would have got done two months ago, during the season," Delmas said when asked about re-signing with the Lions. "The Lions are cheating on me. They’re going to the club every damn night and staying out late night, trying to come back home to Daddy." Delmas expects as many as eight teams to show interest in him when the tampering window opens.

It's an indication the sides are nearing a new deal. Thanks to knee and groin issues, Delmas has missed a combined 13 games the past two seasons. His knee reportedly "clouded his future" with the Lions, but his physical should provide some clarity. Delmas will most likely remain in the Motor City.

Lions GM Martin Mayhew conceded as much at the Combine. Various injuries have cost Delmas 13 games over the past two seasons, but the knee appears to be the club's biggest concern. If healthy, Delmas would be commanding top dollar.
