Dolphins FS Louis Delmas suffered a torn right ACL on Wednesday and will miss the season.
It's the second time in nine months Delmas has torn his right ACL after initially tearing it Week 14 last season. He made a quick recovery from the first tear, participating in June minicamp and avoiding the active/PUP list to start training camp. The road will be longer this time, and it's fair to wonder if Delmas' body simply can't take anymore. He'll be 29 and a free agent next offseason with a lengthy injury history. The Dolphins will turn to Walt Aikens at free safety. Aug 19 - 12:56 PM

Dolphins FS Louis Delmas was carted off the practice field Wednesday with an apparent right knee injury.

It's the same knee Delmas tore his ACL in last season. The injury came just a couple minutes after Kelvin Benjamin went down with a left knee injury that required a cart to scoop him off the field. The Panthers and Dolphins opened joint practices together Wednesday. Walt Aikens is next man up behind Delmas.

Dolphins GM Dennis Hickey calls FS Louis Delmas (ACL) "borderline full-go."

Delmas is just five and a half months removed from tearing up his right knee, but has progressed at a brisk pace. Hickey expects Delmas to participate in June minicamp, which means he should be full-go for training camp, barring a setback.
May 21 - 7:56 PM

Dolphins GM Dennis Hickey confirmed FS Louis Delmas (knee) will be on the field for minicamp in June.

Delmas will sit out OTAs, but has progressed nicely from his Week 14 torn ACL. The Dolphins lost S Jimmy Wilson in free agency and added just one via the draft -- fifth-rounder Cedric Thompson. Thompson might be too raw to push Delmas for the job in year one, but he's a freak athlete with off-the-chart measurables.

Dolphins GM Dennis Hickey believes FS Louis Delmas (ACL) could be ready for June's mandatory minicamp.

The 28-year-old (next month) safety is just three months removed from going under the knife, so we'd consider minicamp an unlikely return date. Delmas himself has said he expects to be ready for Week 1, but we'd consider him highly questionable for the start of training camp. The Dolphins have zero reason to rush a player with Delmas' injury history.

Dolphins FS Louis Delmas (knee) expects to be ready for Week 1.

Three months removed from ACL surgery, Delmas is questionable for the start of training camp. He re-signed on a one-year deal and will return as the starter opposite Reshad Jones when healthy. Delmas is coming off a bounce back 2014 with 63 tackles, three pass breakups, and an interception prior to going down.

Dolphins re-signed FS Louis Delmas to a one-year, $3.5 million contract.

28-year-old Delmas was enjoying a solid 2014 season before tearing his ACL in Week 14. It's unclear whether he'll be ready for training camp. The Fins have improved their front four this offseason, but have needs throughout the back seven. They need competition for Delmas and a starting right corner.

The Miami Herald's Barry Jackson reports the Dolphins would like to re-sign free agent SS Louis Delmas.

Delmas played 844 snaps next to FS Reshad Jones before tearing his ACL in Week 14. He has an injury history as long as anyone in the league and will be against the clock to be ready for Week 1. But Delmas has played well when he's been on the field. He's not going to command much, if any, guaranteed money.
Feb 25 - 8:54 AM

A Monday MRI confirmed a right ACL tear for Dolphins SS Louis Delmas, ending his season.

Delmas sustained the tear during Sunday's loss to the Ravens and was placed on injured reserve Monday. So he'll head into free agency with an injury-prone reputation and a knee reconstruction on his resume. The ex-Lion's first year in Miami can still be considered a success, as was an every-down player performing at a reasonably solid level. The Dolphins will have to bump up playing time for Jimmy Wilson and Walt Aikens.

The Dolphins believe SS Louis Delmas tore his right ACL in Sunday's Week 14 loss to the Ravens.

It's a major blow to the Dolphins, as the oft-injured Delmas was an every-down strong safety playing at a reasonably solid level. They'll have to turn to Jimmy Wilson, a 2011 seventh-round pick that's been a sub-package player for much of his career.

Dolphins FS Louis Delmas was forced from Miami's Week 14 game against the Ravens with a right-knee injury, and will not return.

Delmas went down untouched, and was in a tremendous amount of pain. The cart was immediately summoned, and Delmas was fitted with an air cast. Jimmy Wilson is now in the game.

The Dolphins have benched FS Louis Delmas in favor of Michael Thomas.

Asked Monday when they made the move, Fins coach Joe Philbin replied "everything." Thomas has simply outplayed Delmas, whom Miami signed to a one-year, $3.5 million deal in the offseason. Thomas finished Week 2 with six tackles (four solo) and should not be of much interest in IDP league owners.

Dolphins FS Louis Delmas said he feels the "best I've felt the last four years of football."

Delmas is coming off his only 16-game season since the Lions took him in the second round of the 2009 draft. He's hoping that by resting his legs more and not going full-throttle 100 percent of the time in practice and offseason workouts will allow him to stay on the field. The Dolphins upgraded on Chris Clemons next to SS Reshad Jones by adding playmaker and big hitter Delmas.

Dolphins signed FS Louis Delmas to a one-year, $3.5 million contract.

Delmas, 27 next month, was released by the Lions in a February salary cap move. Miami had been showing the most interest in Delmas and is replacing free agent Chris Clemons with him next to SS Reshad Jones. We're a bit surprised Delmas didn't land more money after a strong season, but injury concerns likely contributed heavily to him only getting a one-year pact. He's certainly coming at a reasonable price. Delmas is more hitter than "center field" type, but will add toughness to the Dolphins' back end.

The Miami Herald reports the Dolphins remain "very interested" in free agent FS Louis Delmas.

Delmas visited with Miami last month, but left without a contract. He would be an upgrade over free agent Chris Clemons if signed. Delmas has also drawn interest from Atlanta and New Orleans.
