Browns coach Pat Shurmur acknowledges 2012 is a make-or-break season for WR Mohamed Massaquoi.
"It’s time for him to show us what we know he can do," Shurmur said. Shurmur has wisely avoided seconding team president Mike Holmgren's prediction that Massaquoi will have "a little bit of a breakout year." The Browns drafted only one receiver, but Massaquoi could still find himself on the roster bubble without a healthy and productive preseason. May 15 - 11:07 AM

Browns president Mike Holmgren expects WR Mohamed Massaquoi to have "a little bit of a breakout year" in 2012.

The team's brass has been borderline delusional about its wide receivers for a while, predicting a breakout for the since-released Brian Robiskie last offseason. Massaquoi hasn't been the same player since taking a blow to the head from Steelers LB James Harrison in October of 2010.

Browns coach Pat Shurmur indicated that the team is counting on upgraded quarterback play to spark the team's receiver corps.

This can work if the rookie quarterback is effective immediately, and the Browns seem to think Brandon Weeden will be. "An outstanding quarterback brings synergy to the whole team," Shurmur said. "... If a quarterback that throws the ball accurately, on time, it makes the receivers looks good." The Browns drafted just one receiver -- fourth-round track guy Travis Benjamin.

The Cleveland Plain Dealer believes Mohamed Massaquoi could be the odd-man-out if the Browns upgrade their receiver corps this offseason.

He may be sent packing even if the Browns fail to find a legit complement for Greg Little. Massaquoi's numbers tumbled for the second straight season in 2011, and he has done little to suggest he's anything other than roster filler since being a second-round pick in 2009. He's off the Dynasty league radar.

Mohammed Massaquoi caught two passes for 16 yards in Sunday's game against the Steelers.

Massaquoi needs to prove he can stay healthy for a full season before being considered a long-term option with the Browns. With just 31 catches for 384 yards in 13 games this year, he could find himself on the roster bubble next summer.
Jan 1 - 9:07 PM

Mohamed Massaquoi (foot) and Josh Cribbs (groin) were limited in Browns practice Wednesday.

The Browns' injury prone and ineffective No. 2 and 3 wideouts are both expected to be active for Sunday's regular season finale against the Steelers. Even on a team so thin at receiver, Massaquoi isn't likely to be guaranteed a spot on the Browns' 2012 roster.

Mohamed Massaquoi (foot) is listed as questionable for Week 16.

Massaquoi practiced Thursday and Friday after sitting out on Wednesday. He is fully expected to play against the Ravens, but will not be a fantasy option.

Mohamed Massaquoi (foot) returned to a limited practice Thursday.

Massaquoi is on track to start Saturday's game against the Ravens. When these two teams met in Week 13, he had one catch for seven yards.

Mohamed Massaquoi was held out of Browns practice Wednesday with a foot injury.

It's a new ailment for Cleveland's oft-injured No. 2 receiver, putting his status for Saturday in doubt after he hauled in three passes for 42 yards in Week 15. With just 27 catches for 351 yards in 12 games, Massaquoi could find himself on the roster bubble next summer.

Mohamed Massaquoi caught three passes for 42 yards in Week 15 against the Cardinals.

Massaquoi finished second to Greg Little in targets, but isn't in a particularly good situation with the Browns, and has yet to distinguish himself as a legitimate NFL receiver. He hasn't been the same since suffering a concussion earlier this season.

Mohamed Massaquoi caught three passes for 44 yards against the Steelers in Week 14.

A two-play sequence in the first quarter was a microcosm of his young career. Massaquoi made a brilliant backward leaping catch on the sideline for 25 yards, but dropped a bomb at the door-step of the end zone after getting away with a push-off on William Gay. The 44 yards are the most Massaquoi has produced since Week 4.

Browns WR Mohamed Massaquoi caught one pass for seven yards in Week 13.

He's pushing the Bears' Roy Williams to be the least productive starting wide receiver in football. Massaquoi is on pace for 354 receiving yards this year.
Sun, Dec 4, 2011 08:23:00 PM

Mohamed Massaquoi did not catch a pass in Sunday's loss to the Bengals.

Massaquoi was targeted three times, but rotated out of the game often in favor of Josh Cribbs. Massaquoi is waiver-wire fodder.
Sun, Nov 27, 2011 05:46:00 PM

Mohamed Massaquoi returned to the Browns' starting lineup in Week 11 to catch two passes for 19 yards.

Massaquoi is barely worth game-to-game Rotoworld blurbs because he's a brittle, WR6 at best in fantasy leagues. He's a starter, but waiver-wire material.
Sun, Nov 20, 2011 04:39:00 PM

Browns coach Pat Shurmur fully expects Mohamed Massaquoi (concussion) to play against the Jaguars in Week 11.

Josh Cribbs has been starting in place of Massaquoi at flanker, so Cribbs' role on offense may be reduced with the nominal starter back from a multi-week concussion. It's not a situation worth investment in standard leagues.
