Bucs DE Larry English suffered a "significant" knee injury in Thursday's preseason finale.

We'd guess the situational pass rusher is headed to injured reserve in the next 48 hours. Headed into his age-29 season, English made 12 appearances for the Bucs in 2014.

Pewter Report's Mark Cook called DE Larry English a "defensive sleeper."

English played 259 snaps last season, grading out as a very poor run defender. While he's not expected to compete for a starting job, the Buccaneers are hoping he can carve a role for himself as a situational pass rusher. The former first-round pick has logged 12 sacks in 63 games for the Chargers and Bucs since entering the league in 2009.

Bucs re-signed DE Larry English.

English appeared in 12 games (one start) last season, playing 259 snaps. The former Chargers first-rounder will compete for a backup role in training camp.

Bucs re-signed DE Larry English.

English was released during final cuts, but will be brought back now that veteran salaries aren't guaranteed. He'll provide depth behind Michael Johnson and Adrian Clayborn. 2013 fifth-rounder Steven Means was waived.

Buccaneers released DE Larry English, CB Anthony Gaitor, CBs Kip Edwards and Keith Lewis, LB Nate Askew, and OLs Edawn Coughman, Jeremiah Warren, and Andrew Miller.

English is a former first-round bust drafted by the Chargers in 2009.

Bucs signed DE Larry English.

The No. 16 overall pick of the 2009 draft, English was released by the Chargers in July after an injury-plagued and unproductive five years in San Diego. An outside linebacker in the Bolts' 3-4, he'll be a defensive end in Lovie Smith's 4-3. He's just a flier for the Bucs, one far from assured of a spot on the 53-man roster.

Free agent OLB Larry English visited with the Cowboys on Thursday.

English was released by the Chargers earlier this week. He left his visit with Dallas without a contract and remains unsigned. English played outside linebacker in San Diego's 3-4, but could be an option at defensive end in 4-3 schemes. 28-year-old English has just 11 career sacks through five seasons.

Chargers released OLB Larry English.

English was the 16th overall pick in the 2009 draft and is not subject to waivers. The 28-year-old has missed 28 games over the past four seasons mostly due to right foot problems. He has 11 career sacks across 52 career games, but has never accumulated more than three in a season. English's roster spot has been in jeopardy the past couple years, and GM Tom Telesco finally cut the cord. He should be able to latch on with another team for the summer.

The Union-Tribune suggests OLB Larry English will be released at final cuts.

Since being selected 16th overall in 2009, English has appeared in 52 games (nine starts) and posted just 11 sacks. With Melvin Ingram now fully healthy and second-rounder Jerry Attaochu in town, the roster squeeze is on. English sits fifth on the depth chart at outside linebacker.

Chargers OLB Larry English is under contract for $1.54 million in 2014.

It's notable because NFLPA records list English is an unrestricted free agent. He failed to activate a clause in his rookie contract that would've voided English's deal from six years to five, however, and is now signed through 2014. The Chargers could still release English, of course, if they deem him unworthy of a $1.54 million salary. He's managed 11 sacks across 42 career games.

Chargers placed OLB Larry English on injured reserve with a pectoral injury, ending his season.

It's yet another blow for a team that's been dropping pass rushers all season. The 2009 first-rounder was not in the midst of a stellar campaign, but had notched 2.5 sacks in nine games. He was a bottom-10 player in Pro Football Focus' 3-4 outside linebacker ratings, however. English will be a free agent in the offseason, so it's quite possible he's played his final snap as a Charger. English has just 11 career sacks in 52 games, and struggled mightily with injuries. He's appeared in only 36 games since the start of the 2010 season.

Chargers OLB Larry English was forced from Sunday's game against the Broncos with a biceps injury, and will not return.

It leaves the Chargers' pass rush perilously thin. English notched a sack before going down, bringing his season total to 2.5.

The Union-Tribune San Diego confirms OLB Larry English is a candidate for an expanded role.

The Chargers are desperate for linebackers with Melvin Ingram (ACL surgery) out for the year. Dwight Freeney was signed on Saturday and will replace Ingram in a pass-rushing role, but English is still expected to see an increase in defensive snaps. The 16th overall pick in 2009, English has been a massive bust to this point. He had a career-low 1.5 sacks in 14 games last season.

Just four of the 35 players drafted by the Chargers from 2005-2009 remain on the roster.

We don't usually post items like this, but the draft stat was too good to pass up. The four players are backups Charlie Whitehurst and Larry English, free safety Eric Weddle and struggling right tackle Jeromey Clary. If you wanted to know why the Chargers' roster deteriorated so quickly, here is your answer. They drafted incredibly poorly under since-fired general manager A.J. Smith.
