Jets signed TE Shawn Nelson.

Nelson brings some pass-catching ability to the table, but won't see the field much barring a Dustin Keller injury. His main role this week will be to get the Jets up to speed on their Week 9 opponent, the Bills. Nelson spent the first two seasons of his career in Buffalo.

The Jets are expected to sign TE Shawn Nelson Monday.

The Jets worked out Nelson on Tuesday and are in the market for a "move" tight end with Jeff Cumberland (Achilles) on injured reserve. A fourth-round pick in 2009, Nelson managed 20 receptions for 181 yards and one touchdown in 17 career games with the Bills before being waived this preseason.

The Jets are reportedly working out free agent TE Shawn Nelson on Tuesday.

The 2009 fourth-rounder recorded 20 receptions for 181 yards and a touchdown in 17 career games with the Bills over two seasons. It's worth noting the Jets square off against Nelson's former team after the Week 8 bye.

The Patriots recently worked out free agent TE Shawn Nelson.

New England also tried out free agent DBs Prince Miller, Mana Silva and Josh Victorian. Nelson is not a blocker, and the Pats already have two elite pass catchers at tight end. Nelson may have been brought in simply to provide information on his former team Buffalo, whom New England is hosting in Week 3.

Bills waived TE Shawn Nelson.

Nelson was billed as an early-round receiving talent coming out of Southern Miss, but he never showed the desire to improve. Injuries and suspensions have limited the 2009 fourth-rounder to just 17 of 32 games the past two years. The Bills may have the worst collection of receiving tight ends in the league, so this move doesn't bode well for Nelson's future.

Bills TE Shawn Nelson (undisclosed) finally returned to practice this week.

Nelson missed virtually the entire training camp, making him an extreme longshot to survive the final cut. The Bills' tight ends will be Scott Chandler, David Martin and Mike Caussin.

WGR 550 Buffalo's Joe Buscaglia believes Bills TE Shawn Nelson is "as good as gone" in Buffalo.

Buscaglia reports Nelson has looked "way heavier" than when he was taken as a fourth-round pick in 2009, and "not in a good way." He has yet to practice this summer as he deals with an undisclosed injury. Limited to only five games last season by injury and suspension, Nelson hauled in just three catches after notching 18 in 13 games as a rookie in 2009.

Chan Gailey of the Bills headlines the short list of coaches who have utilized the tight end in the passing game less than Mike Martz over the past three years.

Though Martz has been one of the pass-heaviest coaches in the league over the past decade, he's turned his tight ends into fantasy pariahs. Gailey hasn't had much to work with at the position aside from Tony Gonzalez in 2008, but he also has a long history of using his tight ends as blockers. In other words, don't expect a breakout season from Shawn Nelson in 2011.

Buffalo News columnist Larry Felser does not believe Bills TE Shawn Nelson is a candidate for release.

The disappointing former fourth-round pick was limited to just five games due to injury and suspension last season, and made only three catches for 25 yards. The sufferer of chronic migraine headaches, it seems unlikely Nelson will be much of a factor in 2011.

Bills TE Shawn Nelson will see a specialist this week after ongoing issues with migraines ended his season in early December.

Unlike Percy Harvin, Nelson's migraines are merely periodic. "He suffers from them all year," said Nelson. "I can't even imagine how he deals with that ... I pray for him and hope everything works out for him. Mine are customized. They come for about two and a half weeks or more every year." Nelson's late-season migraines are believed to have been caused by a concussion.

Bills placed TE Shawn Nelson on the reserve/non-football illness list with recurring migraines, ending his season.

Nelson has been dealing with the migraines for most of the season and has sat out the last two games. "He’s seeing a lot of people," coach Chan Gailey said. "It’s just one of those things that it hasn’t worked out for him to get healthy enough to play this year." Nelson's disappointing sophomore season ends with three catches for 25 yards over five games.

Bills TE Shawn Nelson (migraines) will be held out of Sunday's Week 14 game.

It's the second straight game Nelson has missed with migraines, which have plagued him throughout the season. The Bills will not feature a fantasy worthy tight end until at least next season.

Bills TE Shawn Nelson is missing practice again this week with migraine issues.

Similar to Percy Harvin, Nelson has been plagued by migraines going back to last season. "He's still having problems," said coach Chan Gailey. "It's something he really has had for a long time and right now won't go away."

Bills TE Shawn Nelson (illness) and G Eric Wood (ankle) were ruled out for the Bills' Week 13 tilt at Minnesota.

Nelson is buried on Buffalo's depth chart, so this should not affect the fantasy landscape. Kraig Urbik will likely draw the start at right guard for the Bills with Wood sidelined.
