Lions signed WR Lance Long to a one-year contract.

Long was a final cut of the 49ers last September. Outside of 20 catches for 178 yards with the Chiefs in 2009, Long has been a well-traveled practice squad receiver. He's an extreme longshot to make the Lions roster this summer.

Bethel-Thompson's released officially leaves the 49ers with just two quarterbacks heading into Week 1. Long, meanwhile, last appeared in the NFL in 2009 as a member of the Chiefs. Still only 26, he might eventually latch on somewhere as a special teamer.

Chiefs waived WR Lance Long.

Long had a short stint as the Chiefs' slot receiver last season. His release is a positive sign for Kansas City, as they've drastically increased the skill-position talent level on offense.

Chiefs declared WR Lance Long, DE Glenn Dorsey, RT Ryan O'Callaghan, OG Brian Waters, third QB Matt Gutierrez, WR Bobby Wade, TE Sean Ryan, and LB Pierre Walters inactive for Week 15.

Dwayne Bowe is in the starting lineup. The Chiefs' offensive line is decimated however, without O'Callaghan and Waters. Dorsey isn't a difference maker, so his absence doesn't improve the Cleveland running game's matchup.

Lance Long caught two passes for 15 yards in Sunday's loss to the Chargers.

The Chiefs weren't able to protect well enough to establish any kind of passing game. Long continues to split time with Bobby Wade in the slot and is not a fantasy option.

Lance Long had just two catches for 37 yards against the Steelers in Week 11.

Long was targeted until the fourth quarter, as the Chiefs passing offense was kept in check through three and a half quarters. Long is splitting production with Mark Bradley and Bobby Wade, so he can't be trusted as a weekly option in PPR leagues.

Lance Long figures to see an increase in fantasy value following the suspension of Dwayne Bowe.

Mark Bradley may move back into the starting lineup opposite Chris Chambers, but Long will likely see a bigger increase in targets. He's worth grabbing as a flier in PPR leagues. Bobby Wade will be active on game days, though he's behind Bradley and Long on the depth chart.

Chiefs WR Lance Long caught just two balls for 18 yards in Week 10.

Long started in a three-wide set with Chris Chambers and Dwayne Bowe, but saw just three targets. Chambers had five and Dwayne Bowe 11 -- easily a team high. Long has potential as a long-term slot guy, but the K.C. offense doesn't have enough firepower to support more than 1-2 fantasy options.

Chiefs WR Lance Long is drawing comparisons to Wes Welker in Kansas City, most notably from quarterback Matt Cassel who played with Welker in New England.

"He's a great slot receiver," Cassel said of Long. "He's got tremendous quickness, he gets in and out of his breaks well, he catches the ball, he’s a tough guy." Clearly earning the trust of his quarterback as well as his head coach, Long is a savvy pickup this week in PPR leagues.

Lance Long caught eight balls for 74 yards in the Chiefs' Week 9 loss.

It's time to pick up Long in PPR leagues. He is not a great talent, but has clearly grabbed the slot receiver job Bobby Engram was originally ticketed for and plays in three-wide sets. Matt Cassel is showing trust in the former undrafted free agent, as Long led the team in targets Sunday.

Chiefs receiver Lance Long played extensively in Sunday's loss to San Diego, seeing five targets.

The Chiefs started in a two-wide set with Bobby Wade at flanker and Dwayne Bowe at split end, but Long appears to be pushing for the third wideout job. He had two grabs for 12 yards, while Mark Bradley was catch-less.

Chiefs WR Lance Long left Sunday's game with a concussion.

Long was going through a battery of tests on the sidelines after taking a big hit. Doctors took away his helmet, indicating that he's likely done for the day. He finished with 12 yards on two catches and almost hauled in a diving touchdown grab just before the half.
