Steelers re-signed restricted free agent LG Doug Legursky to a one-year, $1.26 million contract.
Legursky is currently recovering from shoulder surgery. The 26-year-old former undrafted free agent played center at Marshall, but made six of his ten 2011 starts at guard. Pro Football Focus graded him poorly across the board. Thu, Apr 12, 2012 01:31:00 PM

Date:

Steelers LG Doug Legursky is scheduled to undergo shoulder surgery on Friday.

Legursky originally injured his left shoulder in late September versus the Colts and aggravated it several times throughout the season. His recovery timetable is not yet known. Legursky will be back in Pittsburgh as a restricted free agent, though he may have to fight to keep his starting job.

Coach Mike Tomlin gives Doug Legursky (shoulder) a "strong chance" to return to the starting left guard job for Sunday's game at Denver.

It's great news for the Steelers' offense, which has averaged 25 points per game in four games with the starting offensive line intact compared to 18.8 in the other 12 games.

Steelers C Doug Legursky (shoulder) is not expected to play in Week 17.

Legursky went down while filling in for Maurkice Pouncey (ankle) last week. Pouncey is expected back in practice on Wednesday. Trai Essex will start at left guard.

Steelers C Doug Legursky was forced from Sunday's game against the Rams with a left shoulder injury, and is questionable to return.

If Legursky, who was filling in for Maurkice Pouncey (ankle), cannot return, it will leave the Steelers extremely thin along their offensive line. LG Trai Essex is now at center, forcing an always overmatched Chris Kemoeatu into the game at left guard. It could be a long day for Charlie Batch.

Steelers LG Doug Legursky (toe) is expected to return to game action this week.

Legursky will be eased in as a swingman between center and guard. It's quite possible that he's lost his starting job to Ramon Foster, as the Steelers offensive line has solidified the past few weeks.

Steelers LG Doug Legursky (toe) is out indefinitely.

Legursky dislocated his toe in the first quarter last week and will be out at least a few weeks. The good news for the Steelers is that they are expected to get Chris Kemoeatu (knee) back this week. The offense shouldn't be affected, especially with a dream matchup in Arizona on tap.

Steelers LG Doug Legursky was carted off the field with a dislocated left toe in the first quarter Sunday.

Legursky got driven back on a bull rush by Tyson Alualu and came up limping after the play. Legursky has barely been able to make it through a half this season, due to various injuries. Turnstile Trai Essex has replaced him.

Steelers RG Doug Legursky (shoulder) has been declared out for Week 4 against the Texans.

Ben Roethlisberger will also be missing LT Jonathan Scott. Ramon Foster will start in Legursky's place, while Trai Essex is spelling Scott. Roethlisberger has taken an average of three sacks per game thus far this season, and will likely take at least that many on Sunday.

Steelers RG Doug Legursky plans to play in Week 4 after being forced from Sunday's win over the Colts with a left shoulder injury.

Legursky did not return after leaving midway through the second half, but says he'll "be fine" for Week 4. RT Marcus Gilbert also missed over a quarter with a shoulder injury, but re-entered the game late in the fourth quarter when LT Jonathan Scott suffered an ankle injury. Gilbert is expected to play in Week 4.

Steelers RG Doug Legursky left Sunday's game against the Colts with a left shoulder injury.

His return is officially doubtful, so his night is likely through. RT Marcus Gilbert is also sidelined with a shoulder injury, leaving the Steelers with precious little depth along their offensive line.

Doug Legursky has moved ahead of Tony Hills at right guard on the Steelers' latest depth chart.

Legursky was Maurkice Pouncey's backup at center last season. On the new depth chart, Trai Essex is listed as the backup center and Hills is the backup right guard. Like the Eagles, the Steelers are still juggling their new-look offensive line with Week 1 less than two weeks away.

SI's Peter King says that Doug Legursky played so well in the Super Bowl that Maurkice Pouncey's absence was a "speed bump."

Legursky had constant help, but Packers dominant NT B.J. Raji didn't even make a tackle. It's an impressive performance by the backup as the Steelers allowed just one sack and averaged 5.5 yards per carry. Legursky, an impending exclusive-rights free agent, figures to return as a reserve next season.

Steelers HC Mike Tomlin says the Steelers won't be "changing what we do" even though inexperienced C Doug Legursky will be starting in Maurkice Pouncey's absence on Sunday.

"The NFL is made up of lots of players like (Legursky): guys who somehow got an opportunity and seized it," Tomlin said. "We're completely confident that he will seize this opportunity and play well." That may be true, but Legursky is facing an almost impossible assignment in slowing down fearsome Packers NT B.J. Raji. If nothing else, he needs to concentrate on snapping the ball cleanly to Ben Roethlisberger.

ESPN's Adam Schefter confirms that the Steelers are "preparing to go with" Doug Legursky at center in the Super Bowl.

Schefter cautions that the Steelers haven't ruled out Maurkice Pouncey (high ankle sprain) yet, but all signs point to the rookie Pro Bowler sitting out. Pro Football Focus graded Legursky poorly as both a pass and run blocker in 2010, particularly in run blocking. It's bad news for a team whose only clear-cut advantage over Green Bay is its running game.
