The Atlanta Journal-Constitution says the Falcons "could elect to go with" Chase Coffman as a pass-catching tight end in 2013.
Tony Gonzalez is expected to retire, and it could be a chance for Coffman, a 2009 third-round pick by the Bengals, to salvage his career. "Chase is a very good receiving tight end," said GM Thomas Dimitroff. "If Chase can... stay healthy, I think Chase has a very nice chance of being a quality football player in this league." Coffman should still be a last resort if the position can't be addressed elsewhere in the offseason. Jan 25 - 9:24 AM

Falcons waived TE Chase Coffman, LB Max Gruder, K Erik Folk, RB Richard Medlin, RB Lee Meisner, DE Louis Nzegwu, WR Kenny Stafford and Aron TE White.

It's the second time Coffman, a former third-round pick, has been waived in the past three weeks, suggesting he's just about at the end of the line. The 6-foot-6, 250-pound tight end boasts NFL size to go along with excellent hands, but has never been able to cut it in the strength and athleticism department.

Bucs waived TE Chase Coffman and signed LS Andrew DePaola.

It's another bad sign for Coffman's career. The Bengals, who used a third-round pick on him in 2009, didn't even sign Coffman to a futures deal after the season. Now the Bucs are moving on just one week into training camp. It doesn't look like Coffman will ever get over his nagging foot woes.

Bucs signed TE Chase Coffman, formerly of the Bengals.

Coffman was available after failing to draw a futures deal with the Bengals last month. The 2009 third-rounder never returned to pre-injury form after suffering a broken foot late in his senior season at Mizzou. He's merely a flier for the Bucs.

The Bengals did not sign 2009 third-round pick Chase Coffman to a futures deal, making him an unrestricted free agent.

Coffman was the only member of Cincinnati's 2011 practice squad to not receive a reserve/future deal. The former Missouri Tiger has been a bust, appearing in just six games across three seasons with three catches for 30 yards.

Bengals waived TE Chase Coffman, WR/PR Quan Cosby, and C Reggie Stephens.

An injury-prone 2009 third-rounder, Coffman still has nice hands but less after-the-catch ability than he showed at Mizzou. With Cosby gone, Brandon Tate and Jordan Shipley are candidates to take over on punt returns.

Chase Coffman caught three passes for 30 yards against the Ravens in Week 17.

Coffman saw five targets in place of rookie starter Jermaine Gresham. He looked bulkier and less explosive than he did when entered the NFL a year and a half ago. The three receptions were the first of the injury-prone tight end's career. He should be back as a second- or third-stringer in 2011.

Bengals signed TE Chase Coffman from their practice squad.

Coffman will give the Bengals another pass-catching option at tight end with rookie Jermaine Gresham struggling to make an impact. Despite averaging over six targets per week, Gresham has managed to clear 35 yards just once in eight games.

Bengals signed TE Chase Coffman, FB Joe Tronzo, LB Vincent Rey, DB Rico Murray, S Jeromy Miles, DT Clinton McDonald, and OG Otis Hudson to their practice squad.

Coffman was the 98th overall pick in the 2009 draft, so his fall was as steep as it was quick. Hudson was a surprise fifth-round selection in April's draft.

Bengals waived TE Chase Coffman.

If you watched Hard Knocks a year ago, this shouldn't come as a huge surprise. Complications from a broken foot and an inability to improve as a blocker made him a bust as a 2009 third-round pick. Coffman is still a pass-catching prospect, but he needs to land in a place that actually uses their tight end in the passing game.

Bengals TE Chase Coffman's troublesome left ankle/foot is nearly 100 percent.

Coffman's rookie season was lost due to complications from the broken foot suffered in the last game of his college career. He'll struggle to see the field in 2010 with Jermaine Gresham on board and Reggie Kelly back in the fold. If he can stay healthy long-term, Coffman has the receiving skills to eat into Gresham's value. That's a big "if" at this point.

Bengals coach Marvin Lewis says he still has high hopes for 2009 third-round pick Chase Coffman, despite Coffman's lost rookie year.

"I’m excited about how Chase will help us. He’s a big-time receiving threat," Lewis said. "He catches every ball thrown near him." The fact of the matter is offensive coordinator Bob Bratkowski's scheme has never used a tight end in the passing game. We have little hope for Coffman's fantasy stock.

The Bengals "don't know what to make of" TE Chase Coffman, according to bengals.com's Geoff Hobson.

Coffman's broken foot never really healed last season because he aggravated the injury by pushing to get on the field over the summer. The Bengals are in desperate need of a tight end and will have to consider adding one apiece in the draft as well as free agency.

Bengals TE Chase Coffman (injured reserve) will have surgery next week to remove bone spurs from his left ankle.

Coffman admitted that the foot has not been healthy for over a year. He dealt with turf toe and a broken foot while at Missouri and was not active for a single game during his rookie year. He's expected to be ready for the Bengals' offseason program that begins in March.

Bengals placed TE Chase Coffman on injured reserve with bone spurs in his left, ending his season.

Bone spurs developed in the same foot Coffman broke during the last game of his college career at Mizzou, which isn't a good sign. It was a disappointing rookie campaign for the third-round pick. Despite season-ending injuries to Reggie Kelly and Ben Utecht, Coffman wasn't active for a single game. He'll have to improve his blocking in the offseason to dress on game days next year, but the Bengals' offense simply doesn't support a viable fantasy tight end. Coffman's 2010 outlook is bleak.
