Colts CB Darius Butler (hip) remains day to day.

Butler struggled in Week 1 before missing Week 2, but the Colts need him to get healthy with Vontae Davis (concussion) and Greg Toler (neck) both ailing. Indy gets the Titans and Marcus Mariota in Week 3.

Colts CBs Darius Butler (hip) and Greg Toler (neck) will not play Week 2 against the Jets.

Toler missed Week 1 as well. Butler started in his place, but struggled before injuring his hip. With both sidelined, Jalil Brown and Sheldon Price will get snaps opposite Vontae Davis.

Colts re-signed CB Darius Butler.

29-year-old Butler has spent the last three seasons as Indy's slot corner, piling up eight interceptions and three forced fumbles during that span. He has too many hiccups in pass coverage, but the team clearly values his reliability and playmaking ability. He plays between Vontae Davis and Greg Toler.
Mar 8 - 9:36 PM

Colts declared CB Darius Butler, OLB Victor Butler, OG Hugh Thornton, OG Jack Mewhort, C Khaled Holmes, DT Kelcy Quarles and DT Arthur Jones inactive for Week 6 against the Texans.

Not including their players on injured reserve, of course, the Colts enter Week 6 relatively healthy.

Colts re-signed CB Darius Butler to a two-year contract.

The 26-year-old onetime second-round bust resurrected his career in Indianapolis last season, recording four interceptions as the slot corner between Vontae Davis and Jerraud Powers. The Colts now have a formidable top-three cornerback trio with Greg Toler and Davis on the outside, and Butler covering slot receivers. Indy could still afford to add a safety, upgrading on Tom Zbikowski.

The Colts remain in talks with in-house free agent CBs Darius Butler and Jerraud Powers.

The Indianapolis Star reported Friday the Colts hoped to bring back Powers, who was benched for Butler before landing on injured reserve with a toe injury. Butler would presumably be in the mix for a starting job, but it wouldn't be handed to him.

Darius Butler had supplanted Jerraud Powers as a starting corner even before Powers' season-ending toe injury.

Butler was a second-round pick in 2009 that flamed out in New England and was later cut by the Panthers. Now he's thriving in Indy. "That's the whole beauty of the mantra 'next man up.' Don't give it up, once you get it," interim coach Bruce Arians said. "(GM) Ryan (Grigson) gave (Butler) an opportunity to reclaim a career and he's making the best of it." Butler had two interceptions and returned one of them for a touchdown in last Thursday's win over the Jags.

Colts signed CB Darius Butler.

The Colts head into their bye really thin in the secondary as Vontae Davis (ankle) and Justin King (groin) are both week to week. They'll need all the corners they can get with Aaron Rodgers and the Packers on the schedule Week 5. Butler has been on the street since getting cut by the Panthers just before Week 1.

Panthers waived/injured CB Darius Butler.

A second-round pick of the Patriots in 2009, Butler started six games last season, but struggled mightily in coverage. Butler hasn't notched a pick since his rookie year, but should eventually crack a roster as a special teamer/reserve slot corner.

Panthers CB Darius Butler (personal) is not expected to play in Sunday's game against the Vikings.

Ron Rivera said Friday that he called Butler and told him he needs to stay with his family, so it's unlikely he plays in Week 8. Butler's infant daughter recently underwent heart surgery and reportedly had a setback but is doing well. After being claimed off waivers from New England in September he's maintained nickel/slot duties for the Panthers this season. Josh Thomas and R.J. Stanford will be promoted in his absence.

Panthers claimed CB Darius Butler off waivers from the Patriots.

As expected, the Panthers wasted no time in using their No. 1 waiver spot on the 41st overall pick in the 2009 draft. Butler was New England's best corner through offseason practices last season, but quickly fell out of favor once the season started. He's a worthwhile investment for a team in need of a starter opposite Chris Gamble.

Patriots waived CB Darius Butler.

The 41st overall pick in the 2009 draft lost his starting spot in Week 2 of last season and never regained the confidence of the coaching staff. Bill Belichick's reserve corners must play special teams, which hurt Butler's chances of sticking on the roster. Butler looked like a first-rounder coming out of UConn, so he won't get through waivers. The Panthers and Lions are two teams with a need.

ESPN Boston's Mike Rodak projects that 2009 No. 41 overall pick Darius Butler will not make the Patriots' final roster.

Rodak projects both Butler and Jonathan Wilhite to be waived at final cuts, leaving four corners and four safeties on the roster. Butler was a good-looking prospect coming out of UConn, but hasn't earned enough defensive playing time and adds nothing on special teams. He'd likely be claimed on waivers.

ESPN Boston's Mike Reiss suggests that 2009 No. 41 overall pick Darius Butler's roster spot is in danger following the Patriots' cornerback upgrades.

Leigh Bodden is returning from a lost season due to injury, and the Pats took Ras-I Dowling with the No. 33 pick. Butler couldn't hold off special teamer Kyle Arrington for the starting right cornerback job last year. He'll probably be battling Jonathan Wilhite for the last corner spot on the roster.
