ESPN New York considers Mike Goodson's future with the Jets a "major question mark."
Goodson's Friday arrest on weapons and marijuana charges would have any player on the hot seat — not just a reserve running back — but reporter Rich Cimini believes he could have time on his side. The Jets still owe Goodson nearly half of his $1 million signing bonus, and it would reportedly be "harder to recoup the money" if he was cut before the legal process plays out. The legal process will take months in this instance. For now, Goodson remains Chris Ivory's backup, but it's written in pencil. May 19 - 8:48 AM

Jets LG Willie Colon believes the team will release Mike Goodson following his arrest on Friday morning.

"It's one of the things where it's zero-tolerance with stuff like that," Colon said. "It's sad. Mike could have been huge for us. He wasn't around a lot, so I didn't really get to see him a lot. For the most part, I was kind of anticipating seeing how he was going to do in OTAs. A lot of guys were upset. They knew the type of ballplayer (he was)." The Jets guaranteed Goodson nearly $2 million two months ago, so we're not quite sure this is the end. But it wouldn't be a surprise if it was. Goodson faces jail time and almost certainly a suspension.

Jets RB Mike Goodson has been formally slapped with five charges stemming from his Friday morning marijuana and weapons arrest.

Per USA Today, Goodson has been charged with possession of marijuana, possession of marijuana paraphernalia, possession of a handgun, possession of a loaded gun, and possession of hollow-point bullets. He may need a miracle-working attorney to avoid jail time. An NFL suspension also seems likely.

News 12 New Jersey reports Jets RB Mike Goodson was arrested for marijuana and weapons possession early Friday morning.

Goodson and a friend were allegedly "found intoxicated in an SUV" along a Denville, NJ highway. Goodson was reportedly so drunk that he had to be hospitalized, while his gun was loaded with hollow point bullets. Goodson was a passenger in the vehicle. The driver was charged with DUI. Goodson is facing serious charges, perhaps even the kind that could imperil a reserve running back's roster spot. At the very least, he'll be facing a suspension if found guilty.

ESPN.com considers Mike Goodson the favorite to be the Jets' starting running back.

Unless the Jets find a better back in the draft, then we'd agree. Goodson, 26 next month, has averaged 4.5 YPC on 160 career totes, but he's been stuck behind some high-profile backs. Beating out Bilal Powell shouldn't be much of a chore. Goodson should easily eclipse his previous single-season high of 103 carries.

Jets running backs coach Anthony Lynn says the starting job is "wide open."

"That is what you want," Lynn said. "You want guys coming to camp, coming to work every day and competing for the position, knowing that if you slack [off] — someone else is going to step right in." Mike Goodson seems to be the early favorite. "Goodson is a guy I’ve had my eyes on for a long time," Lynn added. "He is fast, he is quick, he can catch and he is a great athlete."

Jets signed RB Mike Goodson, formerly of the Raiders, to a three-year, $6.9 million contract.

Goodson has spent his entire four-year career buried on depth charts. He started off behind DeAngelo Williams/Jonathan Stewart in Carolina and then spent last year caddying for Darren McFadden and Marcel Reece with the Raiders. But as evidenced by Goodson's career 4.51 YPC average, he has some burst at 6'0/210. With the Jets, he'll be battling Bilal Powell and possibly a draft pick to be the top dog in a committee. Goodson can also help passing game (40 catches in 2010) and return kicks. It's a rare inexpensive, quality addition for the Jets -- who reportedly believed he was one of free agency's biggest sleepers.

A source tells the Daily News that the Jets are "close" to signing free agent RB Mike Goodson.

Goodson has been buried on depth charts throughout his career, so he's likely salivating at a chance to sign somewhere that has Bilal Powell as their starter. It sounds like a deal will be done Friday.

Free agent RB Mike Goodson will visit the Jets.

Goodson spent Wednesday in Cincinnati with the Bengals, but he's leaving without a contract. The Jets are interested in Goodson to take over Shonn Greene's role in the offense as a complement to Bilal Powell.

Free agent RB Mike Goodson will visit the Bengals on Wednesday.

Goodson is getting more play than most other free-agent running backs on the market. The Jets are also interested in him. Goodson would be a nice complement to BenJarvus Green-Ellis, adding the burst the "Law Firm" lacks. He could also replace free agent Brandon Tate on kick returns.
Mar 12 - 10:23 PM

The New York Daily News reports the Jets are targeting free agent RB Mike Goodson as Shonn Greene's replacement.

The Jets have no money to spend, so they have to target second- and third-tier players. Goodson does have good burst, and he'd be a decent complement to Bilal Powell. However, he can't carry a full load, and hasn't received more than 15 carries in a game since 2010.

Mike Goodson rushed one time for nine yards before getting ejected from Sunday's Week 17 loss to the Chargers.

Goodson got into a scuffle with Takeo Spikes and was booted. His first year in Oakland was a missed opportunity as he sustained an ankle injury at the same time Darren McFadden did. By the time Goodson got back, McFadden was healthy and Marcel Reece was everyone's darling. Goodson heads into free agency without receiving 15 carries in a game since 2010.

Mike Goodson was held to 12 yards on four carries and caught an eight-yard pass in the Raiders' Week 16 loss to Carolina.

Proving last week's 100-plus-total yard game was a mirage, Goodson resumed his change-of-pace back role as Oakland fell behind early and was never really competitive. Expect similar usage in the Raiders' season finale at San Diego.

Mike Goodson rushed 13 times for 89 yards and added one reception for 14 yards versus the Chiefs in Week 15.

A week after playing zero snaps, Goodson was the clear change-of-pace to Darren McFadden. The more explosive of the two backs, Goodson broke off a handful of big gains, including a 22-yard run called back on penalty. He's merely a handcuff to McFadden entering Week 16 at Carolina.

Raiders RB Mike Goodson (ankle) was active but didn't play a single snap versus the Broncos in Week 14.

Marcel Reece played 26-of-53 snaps, 18 of which were pass plays. Should Darren McFadden's ankle "tweak" keep him out of the lineup in Week 15, we suspect Reece and Goodson would split touches versus the Chiefs, leaving both as mere flex options. We will have a better read on the Oakland backfield by early next week when they resume practicing.
