Broncos waived LB David Veikune.
Veikune barely saw any action in Cleveland even though he was their second-round pick in 2009. He appeared in four games for the Broncos last year as an outside rusher, but the Broncos are moving to a 4-3 under John Fox. Mon, Aug 29, 2011 11:45:00 AM

Broncos signed LB David Veikune, formerly of the Browns.

The 52nd overall pick in the 2009 draft, Veikune flamed out quickly in Cleveland while shuttling between outside and inside 'backer. His best attribute is pass-rush ability, so Veikune will probably play outside in Denver.

The Dolphins worked out free agent LB David Veikune on Tuesday.

The 2009 second-rounder has had his tires kicked by the Texans and Eagles over the past couple of weeks, and the Dolphins are likely doing the same here.

The Texans reportedly worked out free agent LB David Veikune this week.

No signing is imminent for the 2009 second-rounder who previously visited with the Eagles. The Texans also worked out free agent DT Amon Gordon, DL Boo Robinson, and DL Doug Worthington.

Eagles brought in free agent ILB David Veikune for a workout on Tuesday.

This could be a sign that Stewart Bradley (concussion) is in danger of missing this week's game against the Lions. It could also just be a case of the Eagles kicking the tires on a talented player, just like most other teams did on Tuesday.

Browns waived ILB David Veikune.

A pass-rushing defensive end at Hawaii, Veikune never found a home in Cleveland with coach Eric Mangini shuffling him between inside and outside linebacker over the past year. Veikune was one of three second-round picks for the Browns last season. The other two will enter the 2010 season as the starting wide receivers.

Browns ILB David Veikune is reportedly on the roster bubble heading into the final two preseason games.

Even with D'Qwell Jackson (pectoral) out, the Browns have greatly increased their linebacker depth his year. Veikune's strength was expected to be pass rushing, but he still hasn't found a home after being tried inside and outside last year.

Browns ILB David Veikune has lost 20 pounds since the end of last season, putting him at 235.

It's interesting that Veikune is shedding weight as he prepares for a permanent shift to inside linebacker. He got some reps with the starters with D'Qwell Jackson staging a weak holdout during the spring, but Veikune projects as depth once the regular season hits. He was a pass-rushing defensive end in college.

The Browns will use 2009 second-round pick David Veikune at inside linebacker this season.

Veikune's strength is pass rushing and always has been, so the Browns' use of him at a non-pass rushing-friendly position is head scratching. Apparently, Eric Mangini sees some Tedy Bruschi-like qualities in Veikune. Veikune's 2009 production (10 appearances, zero tackles) was more Craig Powell-like.

Browns placed LB David Veikune on injured reserve, ending his season.

Veikune, a second-round pick, did not have an impact during his rookie year. He dressed for 10 games but recorded no tackles and can be considered a disappointment. Veikune will likely have a chance to impress a new coach next season.

Browns declared LB David Veikune, DB Coye Francies, DB Gerard Lawson, DB Ramzee Robinson, OT John St. Clair, TE Greg Estandia, WR Jake Allen, and LB Arnold Harrison inactive for Week 16.

Mike Adams starts at corner with wide receiver Mike Furrey moving into the lineup at safety. Unfortunately, the Raiders don't have the passing game to exploit that matchup.

Browns coach Eric Mangini said Wednesday he is still weighing his options in terms of who will replace D'Qwell Jackson (injured reserve, shoulder).

The candidates are David Veikune, Kaluka Maiava and David Bowens. Veikune and Maiava are rookies. None of the three have been affected by the team's flu bug yet. Expect some sort of rotation, with Maiava and Veikune leading the way.

Browns agreed to terms with second-round LB David Veikune on a four-year, $3.5 million contract. The deal includes $1.8 million in guarantees.

Coach Eric Mangini used Veikune both inside and outside during minicamps, but the former college end is more likely to be used as a pass rusher. Veikune made headlines in May when he won a bet with Mangini by diagramming a complicated blitz formation in front of the team.

The Browns have reportedly already rejected a contract offer from the agent of unsigned second-round pick David Veikune.

The Browns now appear to be making first-round pick Alex Mack a priority, instead of taking the common strategy of signing their later-round picks first. No offers have been exchanged for Brian Robiskie or Mohamed Massaquoi.

The Browns have been using second-round pick David Veikune at both inside and outside linebacker during minicamps.

Cleveland wants to improve against the run and at 6'2/257 Veikune would be an imposing inside 'backer. Eric Mangini's old team, the Patriots, made a similar move with Tedy Bruschi at the start of his career. Like Bruschi, Veikune played end in college. Veikune could compete with Eric Barton at ILB.
