Free agent LB Kaluka Maiava was sentenced to 15 days in jail after pleading no contest to assault charges stemming from a 2013 incident at a Hawaii bar.
Maiava turned himself in last Monday and began serving his sentence. The 28-year-old appeared in four games for the Raiders last season before landing on I.R. with a hamstring injury in October and then getting cut in November. Raiders waived LB Kaluka Maiava from injured reserve.

The move officially ends Maiava's ineffective two years in Oakland, where he appeared in just 13-of-26 games. Maiava was struggling mightily before landing on injured reserve, but could latch on somewhere as veteran depth if he's over his hamstring injury.

Raiders placed LB Kaluka Maiava on injured reserve with a hamstring injury, ending his season.

It's the second straight year Maiava has been placed on injured reserve. It leaves the Raiders' already questionable linebacker depth that much more undermanned. Handed a three-year, $6 million deal in March 2013, Maiava will head into the offseason having appeared in just 13 of a possible 32 games over the past two seasons. Maiava was ineffective when he did manage to take the field. He'll almost certainly be released.

The Raiders are expected to start both Kaluka Maiava and Bojay Filimoeatu at linebacker against the Dolphins this week.

MLB Nick Roach is still battling a concussion from the summer, while Sio Moore is hobbled by an ankle injury. Top backup LB Miles Burris is in a walking boot. Maiava has made 24 career starts, but is undersized and has been destroyed as a run defender on 94 snaps this season. Filimoeatu is an undrafted rookie out of Utah State. Fire Lamar Miller up as a solid RB2 play.

Raiders placed OLB Kaluka Maiava on injured reserve with a rib injury, ending his season.

Maiava was injured during the first half of Sunday's loss to the Eagles and will be shut down with just four weeks remaining in the regular season. He appeared in nine games and had 17 tackles as a reserve linebacker prior to going down. Due $1.54 million in 2014, Maiava is a candidate for offseason release.

Raiders OLB Kaluka Maiava was forced from Sunday's loss to the Eagles with a rib injury.

Maiava went down in the first half, and wasn't spotted after halftime. Just a reserve, Maiava's status is uncertain.

Raiders OLB Kaluka Maiava has been charged with misdemeanor assault and criminal property damage in Maui, Hawaii.

Maiava and his brother were part of a brawl on March 17, which was just four days after Maiava signed a three-year deal with the Raiders. Maiava is from Maui. By recent NFL player standards, the charges aren't exactly serious, but Maiava could still be facing league discipline. An effective player in 498 snaps for the Browns last season, Maiava is ticketed for a bigger role in Oakland. It might not pan out for the formerly career special teamer.

Raiders signed OLB Kaluka Maiava, formerly of the Browns, to a three-year, $6 million contract.

The Raiders are beginning the arduous task of remaking their decimated front seven. A 13-game starter for the 2012 Browns, Maiava finished with 53 tackles, two sacks and two forced fumbles. He graded out as Pro Football Focus' No. 7 4-3 outside linebacker, but played just 498 snaps. He will be a starter in Oakland.

The Browns are not expected to re-sign free agent OLB Kaluka Maiava.

Maiava started 13 games on the weak side in 2012, recording a career-high 53 tackles and two sacks. With the Browns transitioning to the 3-4, his services are no longer needed. The 26-year-old is a fine special teams player.

Kaluka Maiava will enter the season as the Browns' starting weak-side linebacker.

Coordinator Dick Jauron insists Maiava has had a "terrific camp," but there's a reason he's been limited to special teams since being drafted in 2009. The Eagles fantasy players have a made-to-order Week 1 matchup with Maiava and UFDA L.J. Fort starting at two of the three linebacker spots.

The Browns believe WLB Kaluka Maiava still has developmental upside as a fourth-year player.

Maiava is an established presence on special teams, but is being thrust into a prominent early-season role with Scott Fujita suspended the first three games. "He’s very effective in scrimmage downs," coach Pat Shurmur said. "We anticipate that he’ll be one year better in our scheme and better as a player." More likely, the Browns run defense will be a liability yet again in 2012.

Browns starting WLB Kaluka Maiava plans to play through a broken left hand in the season finale.

Maiava broke a bone connected to his index finger against the Ravens last week. He'll play with a cast against the Steelers Sunday.

Browns WLB Kaluka Maiava (knee) is questionable for Sunday's game against the Ravens.

The Browns' No. 6 defense will already be without strong-side linebacker Scott Fujita (hand). If Maiava can't go, Titus Brown would be forced to fill in. Chris Gocong has switched sides to replace Fujita.

Kaluka Maiava is expected to start at weakside linebacker against the Seahawks with Scott Fujita (concussion) in doubt for Week 7.

Chris Gocong will slide over to strongside linebacker. A special teamer to date, Maiava is just 13 months removed from ACL surgery. Fujita is one of Cleveland's premier defenders, so this figures to be a substantial dropoff.

Browns LB/ST Kaluka Maiava says he's "90 percent" recovered from right ACL surgery early last October.

Maiava also tore his right meniscus, so the recovery has taken longer than normal. "If I needed to go next week, I could go," said Maiava. "... I'm just being really careful." The 2009 fourth-rounder should return as a special teamer and reserve linebacker.
