Raiders signed OLB Kaluka Maiava, formerly of the Browns, to a three-year, $6 million contract.
The Raiders are beginning the arduous task of remaking their decimated front seven. A 13-game starter for the 2012 Browns, Maiava finished with 53 tackles, two sacks and two forced fumbles. He graded out as Pro Football Focus' No. 7 4-3 outside linebacker, but played just 498 snaps. He will be a starter in Oakland. Mar 13 - 5:37 PM

The Browns are not expected to re-sign free agent OLB Kaluka Maiava.

Maiava started 13 games on the weak side in 2012, recording a career-high 53 tackles and two sacks. With the Browns transitioning to the 3-4, his services are no longer needed. The 26-year-old is a fine special teams player.

Kaluka Maiava will enter the season as the Browns' starting weak-side linebacker.

Coordinator Dick Jauron insists Maiava has had a "terrific camp," but there's a reason he's been limited to special teams since being drafted in 2009. The Eagles fantasy players have a made-to-order Week 1 matchup with Maiava and UFDA L.J. Fort starting at two of the three linebacker spots.

The Browns believe WLB Kaluka Maiava still has developmental upside as a fourth-year player.

Maiava is an established presence on special teams, but is being thrust into a prominent early-season role with Scott Fujita suspended the first three games. "He’s very effective in scrimmage downs," coach Pat Shurmur said. "We anticipate that he’ll be one year better in our scheme and better as a player." More likely, the Browns run defense will be a liability yet again in 2012.

Browns starting WLB Kaluka Maiava plans to play through a broken left hand in the season finale.

Maiava broke a bone connected to his index finger against the Ravens last week. He'll play with a cast against the Steelers Sunday.

Browns WLB Kaluka Maiava (knee) is questionable for Sunday's game against the Ravens.

The Browns' No. 6 defense will already be without strong-side linebacker Scott Fujita (hand). If Maiava can't go, Titus Brown would be forced to fill in. Chris Gocong has switched sides to replace Fujita.

Kaluka Maiava is expected to start at weakside linebacker against the Seahawks with Scott Fujita (concussion) in doubt for Week 7.

Chris Gocong will slide over to strongside linebacker. A special teamer to date, Maiava is just 13 months removed from ACL surgery. Fujita is one of Cleveland's premier defenders, so this figures to be a substantial dropoff.

Browns LB/ST Kaluka Maiava says he's "90 percent" recovered from right ACL surgery early last October.

Maiava also tore his right meniscus, so the recovery has taken longer than normal. "If I needed to go next week, I could go," said Maiava. "... I'm just being really careful." The 2009 fourth-rounder should return as a special teamer and reserve linebacker.

Browns LB/ST Kaluka Maiava will undergo surgery on the torn ACL in his right knee on Tuesday.

Maiava was already on injured reserve, but now we know the extent of his injury. The 2009 fourth-round pick will be in a race to get ready for camp next year.

Browns placed LB/ST Kaluka Maiava (leg) on injured reserve, ending his season.

Maiava, a key special teamer, injured his right leg on kickoff coverage Sunday. Coach Eric Mangini has not updated his condition, but it's apparently a multi-week injury.

Browns LB/ST Kaluka Maiava left Sunday's game against the Chiefs with a right leg injury.

Maiva hurt his leg on kickoff coverage and limped to the locker room. The Browns' linebacker depth is being tested, with starting ILB D'Qwell Jackson (pectoral) already out.

Fourth-round rookie Kaluka Maiava started in place of ILB D'Qwell Jackson, who is out for the season.

The Browns predictably missed Jackson, with Packers RB Ryan Grant racking up his first 100-yard game of the season.

Browns signed fourth-round LB Kaluka Maiava to a four-year contract worth just under $2.5 million.

The smallish USC product will battle for a backup job at training camp. Ideally, Maiava will develop into a top special teamer in the Larry Izzo mold. At just 6'0/230, he probably isn't going to play much inside 'backer.
