Cowboys DT Henry Melton (ACL surgery) expects to be ready for the start of training camp.

Melton is sitting out OTAs, but remains on track to be cleared when the Cowboys report to camp in late July. Tyrone Crawford, Terrell McClain, and Amobi Okoye will get extended looks at the three-technique spot. Seventh-round pick Ken Bishop has been getting the majority of snaps at nose tackle.

ESPN's Louis Riddick heard DT Henry Melton's ACL recovery was "behind schedule" before he signed with the Cowboys.

Riddick believes it's "sounding more and more" like that's indeed the case, as Melton's FA market was surprisingly quiet relative to his resume, while he's being withheld from all pre-camp activities. The Cowboys are banking on a lot of injury red flags to turn their defense around, including Melton, DL Tyrone Crawford (Achilles), DE Anthony Spencer (knee), and MLB Sean Lee (neck).

Cowboys DT Henry Melton (ACL surgery) will be held out of all pre-training camp activities.

He is expected to be cleared when the Cowboys head to Oxnard (CA) in late July. The missed time shouldn't hurt Melton much because he's so familiar with DC Rod Marinelli's scheme. Melton is likely to start at three technique in Week 1, though he will face competition from Tyrone Crawford and Amobi Okoye.

The criminal charges against Cowboys DT Henry Melton have been dropped.

Melton was accused of biting a Texas bar owner in the kidney in December. He was charged with misdemeanor assault and public intoxication. The two sides reached an agreement and the case has been dismissed. Melton shouldn't face any league discipline. He'll hold down the three-technique spot this season.

Cowboys DT Henry Melton (knee) is participating partially in this week's minicamp.

Melton tore his ACL in September, allowing the Cowboys to sign him on an extremely team-friendly contract structure. He's doing some drills, a sign that he'll be near a full-go in time for training camp. The Cowboys desperately need Melton to regain form as they're paper-thin across the defensive line.

The Dallas Morning News reports the lawsuit over assault claims against Cowboys DT Henry Melton has been dropped.

Melton was being sued for more than $1 million from his public intoxication and assault arrest on December 23. He still faces a misdemeanor charge as a result of the incident. A hearing for the criminal case is scheduled for next week.

Coach Jason Garrett said it's "reasonable" to expect to see Henry Melton (knee) on the field sometime this spring and certainly for training camp.

Melton underwent surgery for a torn ACL in October and may not be ready for OTAs. However, he should see the field some during minicamp and be all systems go for training camp this summer. Melton's rehab is on schedule, and he recently signed a team-friendly deal to serve as Dallas' new three-technique pass rusher. Finding a nose tackle to pair with Melton is a top priority.

Cowboys DT Henry Melton's contract with Dallas can range from as little as a one-year, $2.25 million pact to a four-year, $29 million deal.

The structure is extremely team friendly, suggesting Melton was discouraged by his market. The only guaranteed money is a $1 million signing bonus. Melton can earn up to $5 million in 2014 via per-game roster bonuses and incentives. The Cowboys will have a big decision to make on Melton next offseason. If they exercise a $1,000 "option bonus" in March of 2015, they'll guarantee Melton a $9 million base salary and lock him up through the 2017 season.

FOX Sports' Mike Garafolo reports Henry Melton's deal is a one-year contract that turns into a four-year agreement if he's on the Cowboys' roster the first day of the 2015 league year.

Per Garafolo, more guaranteed money will also kick in if Melton survives the first day of the next league year. It's creative structuring that could pan out in a big way for Dallas if Melton bounces back from his torn ACL for a strong 2014.
Mar 18 - 10:29 PM

Cowboys agreed to terms with DT Henry Melton, formerly of the Bears.

According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, it's a multi-year pact. It's a deal both sides have wanted to get done since the start of free agency, but Melton still made the rounds on the open market, visiting Seattle and St. Louis in addition to the Cowboys. The Vikings were also interested. Melton will be reuniting with DC Rod Marinelli, the man who moved him from end to tackle in Chicago. Melton is recovering from a torn ACL, but will provide a badly needed disruptive presence along the Cowboys' patchwork line as long as he's healthy.

The Fort Worth Star-Telegram reports free agent DT Henry Melton is visiting the Rams on Tuesday.

Melton is easily the top free agent left on the market. He's already had visits with the Vikings, Seahawks, and Cowboys and also remains in contact with the Bears. Bryan Broaddus of the Cowboys' official website reports Melton's surgically-repaired knee checked out well. In St. Louis, Melton would likely slide in as the starter next to Michael Brockers, pushing Kendall Langford to No. 3 duties.

Free agent DT Henry Melton is being sued for "a sum greater than $1 million," stemming from his public intoxication and assault arrest on December 23.

Around 2 AM on December 23, Melton was asked to leave Chill, a Texas sports bar. He then became "belligerent" and allegedly bit the bar owner, Donald Payne, in the lower back and pierced the skin. Melton's agent, Jordan Woy, denies the claims and plans to hold Chill "accountable" for damages Melton suffered.

ESPN 1500 Twin Cities reports the Vikings are "still maintaining dialogue" with free agent DT Henry Melton.

Melton met with the Vikings earlier this week and is also drawing interest from Seattle and Dallas. In Minnesota, Melton would be an upgrade over Sharrif Floyd in Mike Zimmer's 4-3 scheme opposite Linval Joseph. Melton is five months removed from ACL surgery and expected to be ready for training camp.
Mar 15 - 9:16 PM

Free agent DT Henry Melton will visit the Cowboys after the Seahawks.

Melton isn't expected to sign with Seattle on his visit, unless he his blown away by an offer. Melton has expressed a desire to play for the Cowboys in his home state of Texas. If Jerry Jones can work the money right and fit Melton into the budget, he'd be a much-needed talent for a currently-talentless defensive line.
