Lions agreed to terms with SS Glover Quin on a five-year, $25 million contract.
We put "for real" in the headline because this deal was initially reported by ESPN, then withdrawn with the Texans reportedly jumping back into the mix. It's now been confirmed by Tim Twentyman of the Lions' official website. Quin, 27, is an effective run support safety whose cover skills have been overrated in some circles. He has some experience covering slot receivers, but it hasn't typically gone well. Quin did rack up 84 tackles, two interceptions, and two forced fumbles at strong safety in Houston last year. Updating a previous item, the Lions have not yet completed a contract agreement with free agent SS Glover Quin.

ESPN jumped the gun and has since withdrawn its initial report. The Houston Chronicle is now reporting the Texans remain "in play" to re-sign Quin, who they have desperately wanted back. Quin visited the Lions' facility on Wednesday, and it appears the sides were at least close to an agreement. Quin remains available to the highest bidder. He's expected to command $5 million per year.

Lions agreed to terms with S Glover Quin, formerly of the Texans.

Detroit continues to rake 'em in on Wednesday. Quin will replace free agent Louis Delmas in the Lions' defensive backfield, but he can also play some corner. Quin struggles in coverage a bit, but he's an above-average run defender. It's a tough loss for Houston, who wanted him back badly. Detroit has now inked Quin and cornerback Chris Houston to help shore up the back end.

NFL.com reports free agent S Glover Quin is seeking roughly $5 million per season.

It's affordable, and in line with what we expected. Quin is visiting the Lions, but could still end up back in Houston. He'd be a strong add for the DB-needy Lions, and tough loss for the Texans.

Daniel Jeremiah of NFL.com is "hearing a lot of buzz" regarding free agent SS Glover Quin and the Lions.

The Lions are linked to virtually every available safety and corner because of need, but they don't have much cap space. Quin is a name they might actually be able to afford. He won't be as costly as Dashon Goldson or Ed Reed.

CSN Houston thinks "it's possible" William Moore's deal with the Falcons will be a template for free agent Glover Quin and his agent to shoot for.

Moore inked a five-year, $30 million ($14 million guaranteed) deal with the Falcons on Saturday. Moore is eight months older than Quin, but he's also been a consistently better player. We'd expect Quin to get between $4.5 million to $5.5 million annually, as opposed to the $6 million Moore received.

John McClain of the Houston Chronicle reports the Texans will not wield their franchise tag before Monday's deadline.

They're either going to re-sign SS Glover Quin to a long-term deal or let him hit the market. The Texans never considered using the tag on free agent OLB Connor Barwin. Re-signing Quin is Houston's priority over keeping Barwin.

According to The Sideline View's Adam Caplan, the Texans "badly" want to re-sign free agent SS Glover Quin.

We already knew keeping Quin was Houston's top in-house priority, but it's sounding like there's a good chance he's franchise tagged ahead of Monday's deadline if a long-term deal cannot be reached. The tag for safeties is an affordable $6.916 million.

Profootballtalk.com's Mike Florio says there is "persistent buzz" that the Texans will use the franchise tag on SS Glover Quin.

Re-signing Quin has already been deemed Houston's top priority, but there hasn't been a ton of talk about how they'll go about doing it. We haven't heard any updates on how/if long-term talks are going. The franchise tag for Quin carries a $6.916 million price. Houston has until 4PM ET on Monday to make a decision.

The Texans have made keeping Quin a priority, but there haven't been any updates on long-term talks. League wide, there's yet to be a single tag applied ahead of Monday's deadline, but that won't remain the case much longer.

The Jets are expected to pursue free agent SS Glover Quin as a replacement for LaRon Landry.

Word at the Combine is the Jets already realize they can't afford free agent Landry. Quin won't be especially cheap, either, so cap-strapped New York could easily come up empty. The Texans have identified Quin as a priority to re-sign.

Quin was one of the Texans' top playmakers in 2012, and has excelled after making the switch from corner to safety in 2011. Still only 27 years old, he should get a long-term deal.

Quin, who turned 27 earlier this month, led the Texans with 85 tackles this season and finished behind only Kareem Jackson in interceptions. He's been a full-time starter since moving from cornerback to safety in 2011, and is a strong candidate for a long-term deal.

"I would love to be here," Quin said. "I love this organization, I love the city, I love the fans, I love this team. ... I feel like it could get done. I don't see why it couldn't get done." Quin led the Texans with 85 tackles this season, adding 14 passes defensed and two interceptions. He's started 60 of 64 games in four seasons.
