Chiefs signed DE Vaughn Martin.
Martin, 29 in April, hasn't appeared in a game since Week 3 of the 2013 season with the Dolphins. He needed hernia surgery and was released by the Dolphins that October. Martin started 27 games for San Diego from 2011-2012. Wed, Feb 4, 2015 08:43:00 AM

Lions released DT Vaughn Martin.

Coming off hernia surgery, Martin lasts less than three months on the Lions' roster. ESPN's Adam Caplan says they might add free agent DT Derek Landri, a Jim Washburn favorite, before camp.

Lions signed DT Vaughn Martin.

Martin is coming off sports hernia surgery, but said to be nearing 100 percent. He brings 27 starts and three sacks to the table, most of which came as a rotational tackle for the Chargers.

Free agent DT Vaughn Martin recently visited the Lions and Jets.

Ex-Dolphins GM Jeff Ireland gave Martin a two-year, $4 million deal that included $750,000 guaranteed last March only to release him in November after he underwent sports hernia surgery. Martin is said to be fully recovered. The soon-to-be 28-year-old won't command any guaranteed money this go-around.

Dolphins waived DT Vaughn Martin with an injury settlement.

Since the trade deadline has passed, even vested veterans like Martin have to pass through waivers. Martin underwent hernia surgery in September and is nearing 100 percent. He signed a two-year, $4 million deal in March.

The Dolphins will release DT Vaughn Martin (hernia surgery) off injured reserve with an injury settlement once he's 100 percent healthy.

ESPN's Adam Caplan reports Martin should be able to work out for teams later this month or early next month. He signed a two-year, $4 million deal in March.

Dolphins placed DT Vaughn Martin on injured reserve, ending his season.

The move clears a roster spot for Marvin Austin. Martin's "injury" isn't immediately apparent. Thrust into action by injuries along the Dolphins' defensive line, Martin struggled in 25 snaps against the Falcons on Sunday. It's an admission of failure from GM Jeff Ireland, who handed Martin a two-year, $4 million contract in March that included $750,000 guaranteed. It's not a huge sum of wasted money in and of itself, but dead dollars add up fast in the NFL.

Dolphins signed DT Vaughn Martin, formerly of the Chargers.

Martin, 27, graded out as Pro Football Focus' 33rd-rated 3-4 defensive end last year, among just 34 qualifiers. (That's second to last.) PFF considered him poor in run defense and pass rush, and Martin also committed four penalties in under 500 defensive snaps. In Miami, Martin will battle Chase Alecxih and Kheeston Randall to be the top backup behind Randy Starks and Paul Soliai.

Free agent DE Vaughn Martin visited the Dolphins on Tuesday.

It's Martin's first known visit of free agency, though he's supposedly also drawing interest from Eagles, Lions, Saints, Patriots, and Chargers. A run-stopper, Martin made 27 starts for the Bolts the past two seasons. He'd be a reserve defensive tackle in Miami's 4-3 after playing end in San Diego's 3-4.

CBS Sports reports the Chargers are "hoping to retain" free agent DE Vaughn Martin, but are facing competition from the Eagles, Lions, Saints and Patriots.

It's Martin's first mention of free agency, though he did have talks with the Chargers early last week. There's always a strong chance it's agent-driven when a player is connected to 4-5 teams at once, but it is time for bargain-hunting clubs to begin getting more active. Martin has combined for 27 starts the past two seasons, but made just two sacks. He's a run stopper.

Free agent DE Vaughn Martin will not re-sign with the Chargers before free agency opens Tuesday afternoon.

Martin had some 11th hour talks with the Chargers, but the two sides weren't able to hammer out a deal. He hits the open market as a 3-4 end with 27 starts under his belt. Martin isn't among our top-20 defensive ends available in free agency.
Tue, Mar 12, 2013 08:55:00 AM

The Chargers have opened contract talks with free agent DE Vaughn Martin.

Martin graded out very poorly as both a run stopper and pass rusher in Pro Football Focus' 2012 ratings. The Chargers did keep defensive coordinator John Pagano in place under new head coach Mike McCoy, so Martin has scheme familiarity. A 26-year-old out of Western Ontario, keeping Martin should be cheap.

Chargers placed DE Vaughn Martin on injured reserve with a groin injury, ending his season.

Martin went down in Sunday's win over the Steelers. The Chargers' starting right end, Martin finishes 2012 with 19 tackles and one sack in 12 games. Rookie Kendall Reyes is expected to start in his absence. In the final year of his rookie deal, Martin will be a free agent in the offseason. Whether he remains in San Diego will likely depend on if GM A.J. Smith is retained.
Wed, Dec 12, 2012 02:24:00 PM

Chargers DE Vaughn Martin left Sunday's Week 14 game against the Steelers with a groin injury.

The depleted Chargers are now down to just four defensive linemen. Antonio Garay was a healthy scratch.
Sun, Dec 9, 2012 01:16:00 PM

Vaughn Martin is expected to remain the Chargers' starting left end this season.

Last year's first-rounder Corey Liuget will start on the right side, and likely kick inside to rush the quarterback from the interior on nickel downs. Martin started 15 games in 2011, operating as an early-down run stuffer who came off the field on thirds. He could lose playing time to newly anointed "floater" Antonio Garay, as well as second-round pick Kendall Reyes.
