27-year-old Sidbury was never given much of an opportunity across four seasons in Atlanta, though he showed some explosive rush ability at Richmond. Free agent DE Lawrence Sidbury said re-signing with the Falcons is not an option.

"No, it’s not a place you would stick around considering what took place the previous year in your fourth year," said Sidbury’s agent. A year after notching four sacks in limited 2011 action, he played just 31 defensive snaps. Sidbury, 27, could have some untapped pass-rush potential.

Falcons declared DE Lawrence Sidbury, DT Trey Lewis, TE Michael Palmer, OT Garrett Reynolds, OG Mike Johnson, RB Antone Simth, CB Dominique Franks, and QB John Parker Wilson inactive for Week 12 against the Packers.

Sidbury started last week with John Abraham inactive, but the Falcons' top pass rusher is back this week.

Falcons coach Mike Smith said he anticipates second-year DE Lawrence Sidbury making a big step forward this season.

Sidbury, a fourth-round pick in 2009, will get more snaps with Jamaal Anderson ticketed for a swing tackle/end role. He played in just 25 percent of the defensive snaps for the Falcons as a rookie and recorded only one sack.

Falcons rookie defensive end Lawrence Sidbury had two sacks in the team's second exhibition game.

The fourth-round pick probably only played 20 or so snaps, so this is pretty impressive. Sidbury has a very high ceiling as a pass rusher. He needs to become a more complete player to threaten for a starting job.

Falcons signed fourth-round DE Lawrence Sidbury to a four-year contract, including a $441,000 signing bonus.

It was surprising to see a marquee pass rusher (11.5 sacks as a senior) with rare speed (Combine-best 4.64 forty) last to draft pick No. 125. But at 6'2/266, Sidbury is a bit of a 'tweener and no 3-4 teams saw him as a fit at outside 'backer. He'll push Kroy Biermann to be Atlanta's nickel end right away.
