Jasper Brinkley worked as the Giants' first-team middle linebacker "most of the spring."

Kelvin Sheppard got some time with the starters in minicamp, but NJ Advance Media's Jordan Raanan believes Brinkley is the favorite for the job right now. Keenan Robinson and rookie B.J. Goodson could also be in the mix.

The New York Daily News wouldn’t rule out MLB Jasper Brinkley starting over Keenan Robinson.

Robinson is the favorite to start, but the Giants are making him compete after his down 2015. It’s possible Brinkley ends up with more early-down snaps if Robinson struggles against the run. The Giants have an improved defensive line and secondary going into 2016, but their linebackers remain a concern.
May 21 - 7:40 PM

Giants re-signed LB Jasper Brinkley to a one-year contract.

Brinkley didn't generate any interest on the open market. He started nine games and played 428 snaps last year, grading as PFF's No. 36 linebacker. After signing Keenan Robinson, Brinkley will return as a situational run stopper.

Impending free agent LB Jasper Brinkley is expected to hit the open market.

NJ Advance Media's James Kratch reports the Giants have expressed interest in re-signing Brinkley, so it is possible he could return if he does not find what he likes on the market. Brinkley latched on with the Giants after being cut by Dallas last September. He played well over the second half of the year, but the Giants should aim higher as they attempt to rebuild a talent-deficient defense. Brinkley landed $2 million guaranteed from the Cowboys last offseason.
Feb 25 - 8:25 AM

Giants signed LB Jasper Brinkley, formerly of the Cowboys.

The Cowboys showed Brinkley the door less than 24 hours ago. Brinkley defended the run well last season but was a liability in pass coverage. He's best suited for an early-down role.

Cowboys released LB Jasper Brinkley.

Dallas handed Brinkley a two-year deal at the onset of free agency in March and gave him $2 million guaranteed. He's merely a two-down thumper inside.

Cowboys agreed to terms with ILB Jasper Brinkley, formerly of the Vikings, on a two-year contract.

A seventh-year pro, Brinkley is a run-stopping specialist. He made 74 tackles on 471 snaps for Mike Zimmer's defense last season. The move helps rebuild the Cowboys' linebacker depth following the departures of Justin Durant and Bruce Carter.

The Vikings have yet to open talks with free agent MLB Jasper Brinkley.

Brinkley wants to return to Minnesota, but the Vikings are looking to replace him with a three-down linebacker. He should be available for role-player salary as a situational run-stopper. PFF rated Brinkley as a top-20 inside linebacker in 2014.

Jasper Brinkley started the first two preseason games at middle linebacker.

Brinkley appears to have his nose in front of Audie Cole for the starting job in base packages. "Jasper seems to be a little bit more communicative, and Audie seems to have a little more range," coach Mike Zimmer said. "As far as the running game, they're very close -- and (in) the passing game they're similar." Brinkley will be on a short leash if he does win the job, and may rotate out even on early downs. There are safer IDP situations out there to attack.

Coach Mike Zimmer suggested the Vikings may use a committee approach at middle linebacker.

Weak-side 'backer Chad Greenway will play Mike in sub-packages, but Jasper Brinkley, Audie Cole, and Michael Mauti are sharing base-defense reps. The Vikings' middle linebacker position could be an IDP black hole if players rotate, and none of them emerges as a three-down defender. For now, the only Vikes linebackers likely to play all downs are Greenway and SLB Anthony Barr.

Jasper Brinkley has been taking the first-team reps at middle linebacker at Vikings voluntary workouts this week.

Brinkley was re-signed by the Vikings after a one-year stint in Arizona. He's merely a two-down run plugger who can't cover a lick. Audie Cole and Michael Mauti should give Brinkley a run for the job this summer, and we wouldn't put it past GM Rick Spielman to draft a MIKE 'backer next week.

Vikings signed ILB Jasper Brinkley to a one-year contract.

Brinkley was drafted by Vikes GM Rick Spielman in 2009. He spent last season in Arizona, flopping in the Cardinals' 3-4 scheme. Brinkley gives Minnesota a potential stopgap solution at middle linebacker, though they'll surely look to upgrade in the draft. Brinkley is a limited, two-down run plugger.

KFAN.com reports free agent ILB Jasper Brinkley visited the Vikings earlier this week.

Brinkley's Thursday meeting with the Bills was believed to be his first since he was cut loose by the Cardinals, but that's not the case. The fact that Brinkley left Minnesota without a deal, however, is a sign a reunion isn't imminent. Brinkley is not a three-down 'backer, and is best utilized against the run.

Free agent ILB Jasper Brinkley is visiting the Bills Thursday.

One day after kicking the tires on Jameel McClain, the Bills are taking a look at a similarly low-upside linebacker. Brinkley, who barely played for Arizona following Daryl Washington's return from suspension last season, is a two-down run stuffer at best. He wouldn't be an upgrade on free agent Arthur Moats.
