Saints signed P Thomas Morstead to a six-year, $21.9 million extension through 2018.

The deal makes Morstead the third-highest paid punter in the NFL, behind only Oakland's Shane Lechler and San Francisco's Andy Lee. The contract also reflects Morstead's dual value as both an elite punter as well as one of the league's top kickoff specialists. According to Pro Football Focus, no full-time punter allowed fewer than Morstead's 116 return yards last season.

Saints signed fifth-round P Thomas Morstead to a four-year contract.

Morstead handled both placekicking and punting duties at SMU, so he could fill in on field goals if K Garrett Hartley ever goes down with an in-game injury. He has to beat out Glenn Pakulak on punts, but is the heavy favorite.
