Dolphins re-signed FS Chris Clemons to a one-year, $2.75 million contract.
Clemons was a 16-game starter for the Dolphins' No. 21 defense last season, grading out above-average against both the pass and the run. His return guarantees some stability in a secondary that could lose free agent Sean Smith. Mar 12 - 5:48 PM

The Miami Herald reports the Dolphins have held "extensive discussions" with free agent FS Chris Clemons about re-signing.

Clemons, 27, started all 16 games in 2012 and recorded a career-high 99 tackles, while being above-average against both the pass and the run. Clemons and Brian Hartline are the only two players out of a slew of their own potential free agents that the Dolphins have had substantive talks with about coming back.

The Dolphins have expressed interest in re-signing impending free agent FS Chris Clemons.

Clemons, 27, started all 16 games in 2012 for the first time in his career, racking up a career-high 99 tackles. Miami has also looked into locking up Clemons' safety counterpart, Reshad Jones, to a long-term deal. The Dolphins have over $45 million in cap space this offseason.

Dolphins FS Chris Clemons exited Sunday's Week 15 game with a first-quarter stinger injury.

He's considered questionable to return. Usual slot cornerback Jimmy Wilson has moved to safety, bookending SS Reshad Jones in the meantime.

Chris Clemons is running as the Dolphins' first-team strong safety at OTAs.

Reshad Jones is the free safety. Promising CB convert Jimmy Wilson and ex-Vikings SS Tyrell Johnson will push Clemons in training camp, but he's the favorite for now. Per Pro Football Focus, Clemons played only 21 snaps in 2011.

Dolphis FS Chris Clemons is expected to be active this week for the first time since sustaining a hamstring injury in the season opener.

Clemons encountered numerous setbacks with the hamstring injury. He's since lost his starting job to Reshad Jones, who is currently sidelined by a knee injury. Tyrone Culver is penciled in as the starter opposite Yeremiah Bell this week.

Dolphins FS Chris Clemons has not practiced since injuring his hamstring in Monday's loss to the Patriots.

He's officially questionable for Week 2, but isn't likely to take the field against the Texans. Beaten out for the Dolphins' starting free safety job by Reshad Jones during training camp, Clemons is off the IDP radar after notching 61 tackles and one interception in 2010.

Coach Tony Sparano indicated that FS Chris Clemons will have to hold off Reshad Jones and Jon Amaya to keep his starting job this summer.

Clemons lost snaps to Jones late last season while attempting to play through a groin injury. He'll enter camp as the favorite to keep the job. Amaya is in the mix as a reward for being a demon on special teams as a rookie.

Dolphins FS Chris Clemons recently had surgery to repair a groin injury that cost him late-season playing time to rookie Reshad Jones.

Clemons performed well as an every-down player in the season's first half, but minor nicks and dings caught up to him down the stretch. He missed Week 11 and was a rotational player thereafter. Finishing with two forced fumbles but just one interception, Clemons will face competition in 2011.

Dolphins FS Chris Clemons (groin) is expected to return to game action this week.

Rookie Reshad Jones was a big factor in the Bears' third-down success last week, so Clemons will regain his starting job. Clemons is third on the team with 41 tackles this season.

Dolphins declared FS Chris Clemons, QB Chad Henne, C Joe Berger, WR Roberto Wallace, TE Jeron Mastrud, OT Matt Kopa, DE Clifton Geathers, and CB Nate Ness inactive for Week 11 against the Bears.

Rookie Reshad Jones will step in at free safety and veteran Cory Procter will play center with Berger out. Tyler Thigpen has plenty of experience with Procter from their time together as backups. LT Jake Long will play through his labrum tear.

Dolphins FS Chris Clemons (hamstring) has been ruled out for Week 11.

Clemons tried to play through his hamstring injury in Week 10 but aggravated it. Reshad Jones will fill in as the starter at free safety and isn't a big downgrade.

Dolphins FS Chris Clemons is in danger of missing this week's game with a hamstring injury.

Rookie Reshad Jones is preparing as if he's going to be the starter against the Bears Thursday night. Clemons has been merely average as a first-year starter, so Jones isn't a significant downgrade.

Chris Clemons left Sunday's Week 10 game in the third quarter with a left knee injury.

Clemons was replaced by rookie safety Reshad Jones.
Sun, Nov 14, 2010 03:18:00 PM

Chris Clemons has officially won the Dolphins' starting free safety job.

Reshad Jones and Tyrone Culver never really pushed Clemons. The 2009 fifth-round pick has upside as a ballhawk, but should be on a short leash.
