Doctors believe they have saved the leg of Bears TE Zach Miller.
It's a surreal sentence to have to write, but the best possible news. Per coach John Fox, Miller has a "good pulse in his lower leg, and warmth." Miller remains hospitalized in New Orleans. His status should be updated some time in the next 48 hours. Oct 30 - 3:14 PM

Zach Miller (knee) is out of surgery, but remains hospitalized in New Orleans.

The Bears deemed Miller's emergency operation "successful." They called the procedure "vascular surgery to repair a torn popliteal artery." Per ESPN's Chris Mortensen, Miller underwent a post-surgery MRI to "evaluate blood flow and anatomy of injured leg." No one has said for sure yet that Miller is out of the woods with regards to keeping his leg, but it's beginning to trend that way.

ESPN's Chris Mortensen reports Zach Miller underwent "urgent vascular surgery" on Sunday night to repair artery damage in his dislocated knee.

As Adam Schefter put it, the operation is an effort to save Miller's leg, not just his career. Obviously, this is an extremely serious situation, one which does not require any analysis about football repercussions. We wish Miller all the best.

Zach Miller suffered a dislocated knee in Week 8 against the Saints.

Miller was injured on a touchdown that was later overturned. He finished without any catches on two targets. The injury will sideline Miller the rest of the season. Dion Sims will replace Miller in the starting lineup.
Oct 29 - 5:04 PM

Zach Miller hauled in 2-of-3 targets for 29 yards in the Bears' Week 7 win over the Panthers.

Mitchell Trubisky completed just four passes, but one of them was a third-down conversion to Miller late in the first quarter and another hit Miller in the fourth. The target share is nice, but it is not going to result in many fantasy points with the Bears trying to hide Trubisky as much as possible. Miller will be at best a low-end streaming option next week against the Saints.
Oct 22 - 4:05 PM

Zach Miller caught 2-of-3 targets for 25 yards and a touchdown in the Bears' Week 6 win over the Ravens.

Miller was target-less until Tarik Cohen hit him for a wide-open 21-yard touchdown on a halfback pass. Mitchell Trubisky wound up with just eight completions. Miller will remain a fringe streamer in Week 7 against the Panthers.
Oct 15 - 5:05 PM

Zach Miller caught 3-of-6 targets for 39 yards and one touchdown in the Bears' Week 5 loss to the Vikings.

The six targets led the team in Mitchell Trubisky's debut when he attempted just 25 passes. Miller's touchdown came from 20 yards out, but should have been intercepted. Vikings SS Andrew Sendejo completely mistimed his jump in the end zone and tipped the ball right into Miller's hands. The target volume has been there for Miller to make him a low-end TE1 next week at Baltimore.
Oct 10 - 12:25 AM

Zach Miller caught 2-of-2 targets for 45 yards in the Bears' Week 4 loss to the Packers.

The yardage was a season high for the Bears' tight end, but the targets were a season low. A struggling Mike Glennon has managed to spread the ball around to a surprising amount of pass catchers as the Bears try to figure out who can actually help them on offense. Miller will be capable of big games going forward, but it's hard to predict when they'll happen. He'll be a low-end TE2 for Week 5 against the Vikings.
Sep 29 - 12:45 AM

Zach Miller pulled in one-of-three targets for 17 yards Sunday in the Bears’ Week 3 win over the Steelers.

Miller made a nice play up the seam in tight coverage for his only grab of the day in the second quarter. That catch also happened to be Mike Glennon’s longest completion of the afternoon. Miller didn’t see much action aside from that, though he was the intended receiver on Glennon’s interception early in the fourth quarter. It was a quiet week for Miller, who was targeted a combined 15 times in his first two outings this year. He’ll look to bounce back against the Packers on Thursday Night Football.
Sep 24 - 5:43 PM

Zach Miller caught 6-of-9 targets for 42 yards in the Bears' Week 2 loss to the Bucs.

Miller was second on the team in targets. He will be in the top two or three on a weekly basis, at least as long as he can stay on the field. Soon to be 33, Miller has an extensive injury history. He's a reasonable-floor, low-ceiling TE2.
Sep 17 - 6:31 PM

Zach Miller caught 4-of-6 targets for 39 yards in the Bears' Week 1 loss to the Falcons.

Miller shared time with Dion Sims, who drew three targets. The Bears may have to lean on their tight ends more if Kevin White (wrist/shoulder) has to miss any time, but not to the extent that Miller would become more than an unreliable, matchup-based streamer. He'll be a TE2 for Week 2 against Tampa Bay.
Sep 10 - 4:11 PM

Zach Miller handled 1-of-2 targets for nine yards Sunday in the Bears’ third preseason game.

Miller caught his only pass on the Bears’ first play from scrimmage. The veteran could benefit from Cameron Meredith’s absence, though he’s been injury-prone himself over the years. At present, he’s an uninspiring TE2.
Aug 27 - 4:34 PM

Zach Miller hauled in both of his targets for 17 yards in the Bears' second preseason game.

Miller made a tough grab during the two-minute drill to help set up a touchdown, but the real story is he worked with the first-team offense. Second-rounder Adam Shaheen should push for his job, but Miller remains the Bears' main pass-catching option at the position for now.
Aug 19 - 11:36 PM

Bears TE Zach Miller (foot) is participating in the first practice of camp.

Miller missed the entire offseason program recovering from a Lisfranc injury, so he will likely be limited early in camp. Still, it is a good sign he avoided the PUP list. After the Bears added both Dion Sims and second-rounder Adam Shaheen this offseason, Miller is likely competing for a roster spot.
Jul 27 - 11:39 AM

The Chicago Sun-Times' Mark Potash believes Zach Miller "probably needs to have a really good camp" to make the Bears' roster.

This echoes what ace beat writer Brad Biggs mentioned last month. The Bears signed Dion Sims in March before then using a second-round pick on Adam Shaheen in April. Daniel Brown also remains a developmental player for a rebuilding Bears club that likely doesn't see it necessary to keep Miller around as he enters his age-33 season. Wholly unreliable due to a laundry list of injuries, Miller's release would save the Bears $2.125 million in the final year of his deal.
