Zach Miller pulled in one-of-three targets for 17 yards Sunday in the Bears’ Week 3 win over the Steelers.
Miller made a nice play up the seam in tight coverage for his only grab of the day in the second quarter. That catch also happened to be Mike Glennon’s longest completion of the afternoon. Miller didn’t see much action aside from that, though he was the intended receiver on Glennon’s interception early in the fourth quarter. It was a quiet week for Miller, who was targeted a combined 15 times in his first two outings this year. He’ll look to bounce back against the Packers on Thursday Night Football. Sep 24 - 5:43 PM

Date:

Zach Miller caught 6-of-9 targets for 42 yards in the Bears' Week 2 loss to the Bucs.

Miller was second on the team in targets. He will be in the top two or three on a weekly basis, at least as long as he can stay on the field. Soon to be 33, Miller has an extensive injury history. He's a reasonable-floor, low-ceiling TE2.
Sep 17 - 6:31 PM

Zach Miller caught 4-of-6 targets for 39 yards in the Bears' Week 1 loss to the Falcons.

Miller shared time with Dion Sims, who drew three targets. The Bears may have to lean on their tight ends more if Kevin White (wrist/shoulder) has to miss any time, but not to the extent that Miller would become more than an unreliable, matchup-based streamer. He'll be a TE2 for Week 2 against Tampa Bay.
Sep 10 - 4:11 PM

Zach Miller handled 1-of-2 targets for nine yards Sunday in the Bears’ third preseason game.

Miller caught his only pass on the Bears’ first play from scrimmage. The veteran could benefit from Cameron Meredith’s absence, though he’s been injury-prone himself over the years. At present, he’s an uninspiring TE2.
Aug 27 - 4:34 PM

Zach Miller hauled in both of his targets for 17 yards in the Bears' second preseason game.

Miller made a tough grab during the two-minute drill to help set up a touchdown, but the real story is he worked with the first-team offense. Second-rounder Adam Shaheen should push for his job, but Miller remains the Bears' main pass-catching option at the position for now.
Aug 19 - 11:36 PM

Bears TE Zach Miller (foot) is participating in the first practice of camp.

Miller missed the entire offseason program recovering from a Lisfranc injury, so he will likely be limited early in camp. Still, it is a good sign he avoided the PUP list. After the Bears added both Dion Sims and second-rounder Adam Shaheen this offseason, Miller is likely competing for a roster spot.
Jul 27 - 11:39 AM

The Chicago Sun-Times' Mark Potash believes Zach Miller "probably needs to have a really good camp" to make the Bears' roster.

This echoes what ace beat writer Brad Biggs mentioned last month. The Bears signed Dion Sims in March before then using a second-round pick on Adam Shaheen in April. Daniel Brown also remains a developmental player for a rebuilding Bears club that likely doesn't see it necessary to keep Miller around as he enters his age-33 season. Wholly unreliable due to a laundry list of injuries, Miller's release would save the Bears $2.125 million in the final year of his deal.
Jul 17 - 9:02 PM

The Chicago Tribune's Brad Biggs believes Bears TE Zach Miller's roster spot could be in jeopardy.

Biggs believes Daniel Brown, a converted receiver who worked in Miller's role while the veteran was sidelined with a foot injury during the offseason program, will push Miller for a job during camp. That seems unlikely if Miller is healthy, but he is no lock to be ready at the start of camp and not a great bet to stay healthy once he gets back on the field. Even if he keeps his job, Miller's days in Chicago are numbered after the team added Dion Sims and drafted Adam Shaheen this offseason. The 32-year-old is scheduled to be a free agent next spring.
Jun 26 - 11:09 AM

Coach John Fox said Zach Miller (foot) is "going to cut it close" for the start of training camp.

Miller said he was "close" to full health in early June, but he's sitting out minicamp. Long injury prone, look for the Bears to play it slow with the 32-year-old. The Bears signed Dion Sims and drafted Adam Shaheen in the second round. Miller is entering the final year of his contract and likely his last season in the Windy City.
Jun 14 - 10:28 AM

Bears TE Zach Miller (foot) said he is "close" to full health.

Miller was placed on injured reserve in November with a Lisfranc fracture. The injury comes with a long recovery, but Miller says he is "getting there." Even if he is a full-go for camp, the Bears cannot rely on the 32-year-old to last 16 games, a feat he has never managed. Likely with that history in mind, Chicago added Dion Sims in free agency before spending a second-round pick on Adam Shaheen. Both should steal snaps from Miller.
Jun 5 - 7:19 PM

Zach Miller (foot) anticipates being ready for OTAs.

Miller suffered a Lisfranc fracture in his right foot back in November. It's a long recovery process, but Miller has been through it before after blowing out his left Lisfranc in 2014. Miller is entering his age-33 season. The Bears can't count on him staying healthy. Look for them to explore tight ends in the draft.

Bears placed TE Zach Miller on injured reserve with a broken foot, ending his season.

Injury riddled throughout his career, it's an amazing feat Miller made it this long in Chicago without getting hurt. The Bears have Miller under control for 2017 season at a reasonable $1.5 million, but they need to start thinking about the future at tight end. Miller turned 32 in February.

Zach Miller will have surgery on his broken foot.

This is mostly for bookkeeping purposes as Miller was ruled out for the season Sunday night. With Miller sidelined and not much talent at tight end, the Bears might look to Eddie Royal to take on a bigger role in the passing game. Even so, this is shaping up as an offense to avoid outside of Jordan Howard.

Zach Miller is done for the season with a broken right foot.

Devastating. Miller was extremely upset after getting stepped on, suggesting he knew the severity of the issue. Miller has a long history of foot injuries, missing all of 2014 and much of 2010. Miller has been snakebit by the injury bug his entire eight-year career. Now 32, Miller wisely signed a two-year, $5.5 million contract last offseason after no one else would pay him. Despite his age and injury issues, we'd expect he'll return at his $1.5 million salary. The Bears have no other options at the seam. It's going to be ugly for the Bears' offense down the stretch.

Bears coach John Fox said Zach Miller's injury is "similar" to his previously broken foot.

So ... he has a broken foot? Miller has a long history of foot issues, missing all of 2014 and a big chunk of 2010. It sounds likely that he's played his final snap of the season, which would be a crushing blow for a ludicrously undermanned offense. The Bears have a trio of journeyman behind Miller, none of whom figure to become fantasy viable in his absence.
