Zach Miller believes he can be a No. 1 tight end.
"If that is wanted of me, I definitely can do it," Miller said. "However it plays out with [Martellus Bennett], I know he is a great player and a great friend. Love being around him, but that is out of my control, out of his control." With Bennett seemingly out the door either via trade or release, Miller should get the chance to prove he is a No. 1. He caught 20 passes for 221 yards and two touchdowns in four games without Bennett last season. Mar 15 - 9:43 AM

Bears re-signed TE Zach Miller to a two-year, $6 million contract.

Another $2 million is available via incentives. Miller went into free agency reportedly looking for $5 million annually. He falls well short of that with his $3 million annual average. The fact is Miller has proven to be extremely injury-prone in his career and turns 32 this season. His re-signing paves the way for the Bears to trade or release Martellus Bennett. The Rams had interest in Miller.
Mar 14 - 6:39 PM

The Rams will host free agent TE Zach Miller on Sunday.

Even while trying to trade away Martellus Bennett, the Bears have slow played trying to re-sign Miller. Miller shredded the Rams in Week 10 last season, dropping a 5-107-2 receiving line on Jeff Fisher's defense. The Rams need an upgrade at pass-catching tight end after severing ties with Jared Cook.

ESPN's Jeff Dickerson reports the Bears have resumed negotiations with free agent TE Zach Miller.

The Bears may view Miller as a cheaper replacement for Martellus Bennett, who is reportedly on the trade block and could conceivably be cut before the new league year begins Wednesday. Miller has proven to be a solid receiving option when on the field, but he has struggled to stay there throughout his career. Miller did not play a snap between the 2011 and 2015 seasons.
Mar 9 - 9:27 AM

The Chicago Tribune's Brad Biggs has heard the Dolphins could have interest in free agent TE Zach Miller.

The dot connection is obvious after Miller had a career year under ex-Bears OC Adam Gase, who is now the Dolphins' head coach. Miller would presumably play in tandem with Jordan Cameron, whom Gase has sounded committed to bringing back despite his $7.5 million base salary. Miller's negatives include his age -- he turns 32 in October -- and his poor medical history previous to last season.

The Chicago Tribune maintains that the Bears are interested in re-signing free agent TE Zach Miller, but believes they'll let the open market establish his value.

That's probably wise, as Miller is reportedly seeking $5 million per season. It's an absurd sum for a player going on 32 who has been racked by injury. Miller was limited to four total appearances between 2011-14. Miller came up big for the Bears in 2015, but there's no need to rush into an overpay.
Feb 25 - 7:57 PM

ESPN's Jeff Dickerson believes it "would be an upset" if the Bears don't re-sign free agent Zach Miller.

Miller is said to be seeking $5 million annually after his breakout second half of the season. But Miller has never been able to stay healthy, turns 32 next season, and we doubt he'd get that money from any other team. Miller has said multiple times he wants to stay in Chicago where he could potentially replace Martellus Bennett if the Bears decide to release the veteran.

Feb 12 - 10:45 AM

The Chicago Tribune reports free agent TE Zach Miller wants $5 million per season in his new contract.

Although Miller came up huge in the second half of the season for the Bears, it's an asking price they'll likely deem ludicrous for a journeyman tight end going on age 32. Beat writer Brad Briggs believes Miller will reach the open market if he doesn't lower his demands. If Miller prices himself out of the Bears' plans, perhaps they'll give longer thought to keeping Martellus Bennett.

Bears TE Zach Miller (toe) is inactive for Week 17 against the Lions.

With Martellus Bennett on I.R., the Bears' remaining tight ends are Rob Housler and Khari Lee. Miller excelled when given opportunities this season, but injuries have long been his downfall. He's a free agent this offseason.
Jan 3 - 11:35 AM

The Bears have listed ten players as questionable for Week 17 against the Lions.

Cool. One of the most notable is Zach Miller (toe), who got in very little practice work this week but played over 90 percent of Chicago's offensive snaps in last Sunday's win over the Bucs, and is in line for lots of usage if he can play. Alshon Jeffery (hamstring) is out and Eddie Royal (illness) is doubtful.
Jan 1 - 1:57 PM

Zach Miller (toe) remained sidelined Thursday.

Miller's Week 17 status is up in the air, but he'll remain a TE1 if he can suit up against the Lions. His availability will be updated on Friday.

Zach Miller (toe) did not practice Wednesday.

If Miller plays Sunday, he'll be a TE1 against Detroit's bottom-end defense against opposing tight ends, especially with Alshon Jeffery now on I.R.

Zach Miller absorbed seven of eight targets for 69 yards in the Bears' Week 16 win over the Buccaneers.

As expected, Miller was Jay Cutler’s preferred target with Alshon Jeffery out of the lineup. He’s hauled in 18-of-20 passes for 211 yards over his last three games. That’s pretty incredible considering Miller didn’t play a single snap in the NFL between 2012 and 2014. If you’re still playing fantasy next week, Miller should be on the lower end of the TE1 spectrum against Detroit.

ESPN Bears reporter Jeff Dickerson believes Zach Miller could be featured against the Bucs with Alshon Jeffery (hamstring, doubtful) out.

Miller has at least six targets in four of the last five games and has flashed some touchdown upside this season. He could see even more work against Tampa Bay. Miller is a low-end TE1 streamer in a good matchup.

Zach Miller caught all six of his targets for 57 yards in the Bears' Week 15 loss to the Vikings.

Miller played through a questionable tag with an illness, but was mostly a non-factor before catching three passes on the Bears' meaningless final possession in a 21-point loss. Miller will be a borderline TE1 next week at the Bucs.
