After two years of waiting, Shannon Sharpe was one of seven players voted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame on Saturday evening.
A seventh-round draft choice in 1990, Sharpe went on to be named to the 1990s All-Decade team. He racked up four All-Pro nods and three Super Bowl titles before calling it quits in 2004. At the time of his retirement, Sharpe was number one all-time amongst tight ends in both yards and receptions. He's since been passed in both categories by Tony Gonzalez, but is unquestionably one of the three greatest to ever play his position. Sat, Feb 5, 2011 08:10:00 PM

Eight-time Pro Bowl tight end Shannon Sharpe officially announced his retirement today.

Sharpe finished as the all-time leader in receptions (815) and yards (10,060) for a tight end, and in 2003 he passed Jerry Smith for most touchdowns with 62. Overall, Sharpe ranks ninth in receptions and 21st in receiving yards. He'll be a first- or second-year ballot Hall of Famer.

Shannon Sharpe will retire from the NFL to pursue a career with CBS Sports.

The all-time NFL leader in receptions for a tight end is a surefire Hall-of-Famer, finishing his career with 10060 yards and 62 TDs. He leaves at the top of his game, one of the best five tight ends in the league. Sharpe was never fully embraced by the Denver public, possibly because of his outspoken nature. Sharpe will now yap on the "CBS Today" pregame show. Jed Weaver, O.J. Santiago, and Byron Chamberlain are candidates to replace him in the Denver lineup.

Shannon Sharpe is expected to announce early this week that he will join the CBS "NFL Today" pregame show, not return to the Broncos.

USA Today reports today that Sharpe will take a three-year deal for less than $1 million per season. It appears to be a done deal, with only the details to be worked out. Jed Weaver would appear to be the favorite to take Sharpe's valuable role on the field.

Shannon Sharpe may retire afterall to replace Deion Sanders on CBS' "The NFL Today" pregame show.

We were going to post our own speculation about the matter yesterday, but had nothing to back it up. Now we've got a Denver Post article. Sharpe will meet with CBS next week about the matter. The Broncos must are already planning for his retirement, signing another tight end, Byron Chamberlain, on Thursday.

Shannon Sharpe has decided not to retire.

Keeper League owners re-joice. The 35-year old Sharpe is more valuable than ever, among the fantasy elite at his position. We'd rank him second, just behind Jeremy Shockey and ahead of Todd Heap. Kellen Winslow Jr. will also enter the mix.

Shannon Sharpe has been working out, but has not yet decided whether to retire or not.

He won't make his decision until mid-April, in time for the Broncos to know before the NFL draft. It appears he's leaning towards returning.

Shannon Sharpe is still undecided about his potential retirement plans.

Perhaps Dan Marino's return to CBS will indure Sharpe to return to the field. Keeper League fantasy owners hope so.
