Packers waived S Brandon Underwood.

Slowed by a sprained knee, dealing with off-the-field issues and attempting to switch from cornerback to safety, Underwood simply had too much stacked against him in his quest to make the Packers' roster. For the same reasons he was cut, he's highly unlikely to get claimed on waivers.

Packers S Brandon Underwood is out "a couple" of weeks with a knee sprain.

Underwood was already on the bubble after a July arrest for allegedly assaulting his former wife, so any missed reps in training camp are going to hurt. At this point, we'd be surprised if the former sixth-round pick made the team.

The Boston Globe's Greg A. Bedard believes CB Brandon Underwood is likely "in his final days as a Packer."

A former Packers beat writer, it's unlikely Bedard has drawn that conclusion out of thin air. A role player, Underwood's roster spot is indeed in grave danger after he both allegedly assaulted his wife and was convicted of "prostitution non-marital intercourse" this offseason.

Brandon Underwood's wife said Tuesday that the disorderly conduct charge against the Packers cornerback was blown out of proportion.

"I told police I did not want them to arrest him," said Brandie Underwood. "He's never harmed me in any way, shape or form." Though Brandie filed for divorce in May, the two still live together and are trying to save the relationship. Without Underwood's cooperation, the misdemeanor charge may be thrown out.

Packers CB Brandon Underwood has been charged with misdemeanor disorderly conduct after allegedly assaulting his wife, according to WITI-TV in Milwaukee.

Underwood allegedly ripped a necklace off his wife, dragged her out of the car, and threw her to the ground on the night the Packers received their Super Bowl rings. His wife had filed for divorce in May, which comes as no surprise considering Underwood was found guilty of "prostitution non-marital intercourse" in March. He doesn't have the kind of roster security to survive more off-field woes.

Beat writer Mike Vandermause suggests that CB Brandon Underwood will be on the roster bubble next season.

Underwood appeared to take a step back in his sophomore season and has had some off-field issues. Pat Lee is capable of filling the dime back role.

Cornerbacks coach Joe Whitt said he wasn't sure if Brandon Underwood (shoulder) would be able to return to practice this week.

Whitt added that even if he does return, the nickel job belongs to rookie Sam Shields. "His injury had nothing to do with Sam playing," Whitt said. "I mean, Sam was going to play if Brandon was hurt or not. He's going to have to show that he's in a position that he can outplay Sam."
