Bengals signed RB Aaron Brown, formerly of the Lions.

It's an offseason depth signing. Brown, 26, has appeared in 22 games since being a sixth-round pick out of TCU in 2009. The 6-foot-1, 205-pound scatback type has 189 career yards on 45 carries (4.20 YPC), plus 18 receptions. Brown would do well to earn a third- or fourth-string role in Cincinnati.

Brown saw just one carry for zero yards since being signed a month ago. The Lions will go with Joique Bell, who has a better chance of sticking on the roster in 2012.

Lions re-signed RB Aaron Brown.

Brown, 26, knows OC Scott Linehan's offense after spending camp and last season with Detroit. He's a faster, quicker option than Maurice Morris, but the Lions have leaned toward the veteran over Brown in the past. It's possible Brown is only being signed as an emergency back until Kevin Smith (ankle) returns.

Broncos worked out free agent RB Aaron Brown on Tuesday.

The Broncos are likely just updating their emergency list. If Knowshon Moreno goes down, Brown would be an option on passing downs. Denver also worked out DBs David Jones and Trevard Lindley.

The Eagles are likely just building their emergency list at running back. Former Panthers second-round DE Everette Brown was also in for a workout.

The Titans will work out former Lions RB Aaron Brown on Tuesday.

The former sixth-round pick will join Clinton Portis in Nashville for the tryout. Tennessee is healthy in the backfield, so this looks like a workout to update the team's "emergency list."

Detroit will go with Jerome Harrison and Maurice Morris behind Jahvid Best for now. Brown lacks vision and tackle breaking ability, but he does possess high-end receiving skills. He could get a look as a third-down back elsewhere.

With Jahvid Best resting, Aaron Brown started the Lions' third preseason game.

Brown handled himself well, rushing nine times for 30 yards and adding four catches for 48 yards with a touchdown. He also picked up the bulk of first-team reps while Best was sidelined in practice last week and appears to be ahead of Jerome Harrison on the depth chart for now. Brown's speed and pass-catching ability fits nicely in the Lions' offense, but he'd likely share reps with Maurice Morris and Harrison if Best goes down.

Lions RB Aaron Brown is a considered a "longshot" to make the final roster this season.

The 2009 sixth-rounder has just 44 rushing attempts in two seasons, and he hasn't been able to nail down a role on kick returns. The addition of second-rounder Mikel Leshoure leaves Detroit with a crowded backfield. We've seen no speculation that veteran Maurice Morris -- due $1.625 million -- will be released.

The Detroit Free Press' Dave Birkett believes that RB/KR Aaron Brown has played his last snap with the Lions.

Talent is not an issue for the speedy Brown, but he's been a mental error waiting to happen through two seasons. His playing time dropped dramatically in 2010, and the NFL's new special teams rules further decrease his value. He was the Lions' primary kickoff returner as a rookie in 2009.

Aaron Brown didn't get a single touch in the Lions' Week 13 loss to Chicago.

Brown was active for the game, but we didn't see him play one snap after he got 17 touches on Thanksgiving. Drop him in re-draft leagues this week.

Aaron Brown rushed 13 times 36 yards and added four catches for 29 yards in Thursday's loss to the Patriots.

It's a career-high in touches for Brown, the Lions' sixth-round pick in 2009. He didn't start and wasn't the goal-line back, but ended up with more touches than Maurice Morris anyway. The Lions will likely continue to see what they have in Brown, but his upside is capped by Morris' presence.

Lions RB Aaron Brown could miss as many as four weeks after breaking a bone in his right hand in Week 3.

Brown will have more tests on the hand, but he's out indefinitely. With Jahvid Best battling an aggravating turf toe injury, the door could open for Kevin Smith to be active on game days. Smith showed so little in the preseason, however, that he probably wouldn't play often behind Maurice Morris.

Lions RB Aaron Brown reportedly "has the early lead" to be the team's primary kickoff returner.

If so, he's getting the nod over Derrick Williams. Brown averaged 30 yards per return on two attempts in the preseason opener, while Williams managed a 23-yard average on the same number of tries. Brown should make the final roster as a No. 3 or 4 back, depending on whether Maurice Morris is kept.
