Philip Rivers confirmed Matt Slauson will be the Chargers' starting center.
A guard with the Bears and Jets, Slauson has apparently picked up his pivot duties quickly. "You'd think he was playing center for all of his career," said Rivers, comparing Slauson's demeanor to ex-Chargers OL studs Kris Dielman and Nick Hardwick. With D.J. Fluker, Orlando Franklin, and King Dunlap healthy, San Diego's offensive line should take a big step forward this year. May 23 - 4:11 PM

Chargers signed G/C Matt Slauson to a two-year contract.

Slauson also visited Buffalo following his Bears release. He'll take over at center for the Chargers after grading as a top-20 guard at PFF last season. Slauson's signing blocks third-round pick Max Tuerk and will push Chris Watt into a swing role on the interior line. Tuerk tore his ACL last season at USC, but remains the Chargers' center of the future. From left to right, San Diego's line is shaping up as LT King Dunlap, LG Orlando Franklin, C Slauson, RG D.J. Fluker, and RT Joe Barksdale. It'll be a solid unit if the members stay healthy, which they failed to do last season. Slauson is a very good pickup.

Free agent G/C Matt Slauson will visit the Chargers and Bills.

Slauson is visiting the Chargers on Wednesday, and will then make the trip to Buffalo. He was drafted by coach Rex Ryan with the Jets in 2009. Buffalo reportedly envisions Slauson as a right tackle. Slauson was Pro Football Focus' No. 18 guard last season, excelling in pass protection. He has position versatility, being able to play either guard spot or center.

Bears released OG Matt Slauson.

Slauson was owed just under $3 million this season. The move is surprising after Slauson finished No. 18 in Pro Football Focus' 2015 guard ratings, with a top-ten rank in pass protection. He allowed one sack in 16 starts, and just turned 30 in February. While the Bears are moving on with second-round pick Cody Whitehair at left guard, a good guard just hit the free agent market.
May 1 - 6:55 PM

ESPN Bears reporter Jeff Dickerson believes LG Matt Slauson's roster spot could be in danger.

The Bears signed OG Ted Larsen and G/C Manny Ramirez before drafting OG Cody Whitehair in the second round. Still a quality starter at 30, the Bears should not be quick to discard Slauson. He's a value at his $2.85 million salary.

ESPN Bears reporter Jeff Dickerson believes Chicago could look to trade or release LG Matt Slauson.

Slauson was Pro Football Focus' No. 18 overall guard out of 82 qualifiers last season, receiving strong marks for both his pass and run blocking. But he just turned 30 and is set to count $3.405 million against the cap. That's not a hefty number by any means, but the Bears recently signed OG Ted Larsen and gave him a $350K signing bonus. It's possible Larsen will compete at center, but Dickerson expects Slauson to at least have to compete to keep his job.

Bears LG Matt Slauson (pectoral) is expected to be a full participant in the team's offseason program.

Slauson went down last Week 8. He was in the midst of a mediocre season. Now 29, Slauson is currently in line to return as a starter.

Bears LG Matt Slauson has been diagnosed with a torn pectoral, and is done for the season.

Slauson's direct backup is Eben Britton, but the Bears are considering moving RT Jordan Mills to the inside. Slauson was strong as a 16-game starter in 2013, but had fallen off this season. It hurts for depth purposes, but his loss is not a season-changing injury. Going on 29, Slauson is due a modest $2.75 million next season. He should be back with the Bears.

The Bears fear LG Matt Slauson suffered a significant pectoral injury in Sunday's Week 8 loss at New England.

Slauson, who missed the first three games of the year due to an ankle sprain, will have an MRI on Monday on his pec. If it's a significant tear a la Redskins OLB Brian Orakpo, Slauson will be done for the year. His backup is Eben Britton.

Bears LG Matt Slauson was forced from Chicago's Week 8 game against the Patriots with a pectoral injury, and will not return.

Slauson went down in the fourth quarter of a blowout. A torn pec would end his season.

Bears LG Matt Slauson left Sunday's opener against the Bills with an ankle injury.

Slauson was taken to the locker room in the second quarter and is questionable to return. Michael Ola has replaced him at left guard.

Bears LG Matt Slauson is recovering from right-shoulder surgery, and expected to remain sidelined until training camp.

Slauson is recovering from a partial labrum tear, and is expected to be healthy "well in advance" of camp. Playing on a one-year deal, Slauson parlayed a solid 2013 into a four-year, $12.8 million contract. He hasn't missed a game since 2009.
Tue, May 27, 2014 05:42:00 PM

Bears re-signed LG Matt Slauson to a four-year, $12.8 million contract.

The deal includes $4.9 million guaranteed. A key piece of the Bears' resurgent offensive line, Slauson played every single snap at left guard this season and graded out 37th among 78 qualifiers in Pro Football Focus' ranks. His return gives continuity to a unit that allowed just 30 sacks this season, fourth-best in the league.

ESPN Chicago confirms Matt Slauson is expected to start at left guard.

Slauson was a quality pass protector as the Jets' starting left guard over the last three seasons. He represents yet another upgrade on a Bears line that finally has a chance to keep Jay Cutler upright. Rookie Kyle Long is the favorite to win the right guard job and Jermon Bushrod was signed to play left tackle.

Bears signed OG Matt Slauson to a one-year contract.

Slauson, 27, was the Jets' starting left guard for each of the past three seasons, never missing a game over that span. Pro Football Focus graded Slauson as the NFL's No. 31 guard in 2012, among 81 qualifiers. They liked him as a pass blocker, but not as much in run blocking. Left guard has been a trouble spot for some time in Chicago. Slauson is likely to open the season as a starter.
