Bears signed OG Matt Slauson to a one-year contract.
Slauson, 27, was the Jets' starting left guard for each of the past three seasons, never missing a game over that span. Pro Football Focus graded Slauson as the NFL's No. 31 guard in 2012, among 81 qualifiers. They liked him as a pass blocker, but not as much in run blocking. Left guard has been a trouble spot for some time in Chicago. Slauson is likely to open the season as a starter. Mar 29 - 2:42 PM

The Cowboys have had "conversations" with free agent OG Matt Slauson.

Cowboys OC Bill Callahan was Slauson's position coach for three years with the Jets. Slauson has generated scant interest elsewhere since free agency began.

Jets LG Matt Slauson has agreed to a $258,000 pay cut, slicing his base salary from $1.308 million to $1.05 million.

His salary is now fully guaranteed. The negotiation reportedly took place on August 1, right around the start of training camp. Slauson has since beaten out Vladimir Ducasse for the Jets' starting left guard job, and will look to solidify his 2013 free agency stock in the final year of his rookie contract.

Matt Slauson has won the starting left guard job.

Slauson, the incumbent, has held off a weak challenge from Vladimir Ducasse. Along with right tackle Wayne Hunter, Slauson represents another weak spot on the Jets offensive line. It's part of the team's overall offensive dysfunction.

Jets LG Matt Slauson has been told he'll be sharing reps with Vladimir Ducasse during training camp.

Slauson is really just a replacement-level player, but Ducasse hasn't shown enough yet to be considered a real threat here. It's likely a case of Rex Ryan trying to generate some competition at a leaky position. The Jets' main area of concern on the offensive line remains the right tackle spot.

Jets LG Matt Slauson (shoulder surgery) says he's ahead of schedule in his rehab, and may participate in May OTAs.

"I have 100 percent range of motion," he said. "Strength isn’t even close yet, but it’s on the way and it’s really coming back quickly. In fact, our trainers have to pull on the reins every now and then, and it’s because I'm doing so well that I want to keep on going." Slauson had initially been ruled out for May OTAs. As long as he continues to progress without setbacks, Slauson should be ready for training camp.

Jets LG Matt Slauson's January shoulder surgery repaired tears to his labrum, biceps, and rotator cuff.

It was an extensive surgery with 5-6 months of rehab. He's questionable for the start of training camp. The Jets are counting on Slauson to return as a starter, but he'll likely miss all offseason camps in Tony Sparano's new offense.

Jets LG Matt Slauson underwent post-season shoulder surgery.

There's no word on the severity. Slauson picked up his pass protection a bit in his second year as a starter, but he remains a liability as a run-blocker. Barring a surprise turnaround by 2010 second-rounder Vladimir Ducasse, Slauson should return as the 2012 starter.

Jets LG Matt Slauson was credited with teams highs in sacks allowed (5.5) and penalties (7) during the 2010 season.

Slauson improved as the season progressed, but he was clearly the weak link along the front five when everyone was healthy. The Jets still seem to be counting on Slauson to start in 2011. They're now trying his backup, 2010 second-round draft choice Vladimir Ducasse, at right tackle.

Jets coach Rex Ryan said LG Matt Slauson feels better now than he did last week.

The New York Post suggests that Slauson re-injured his knee, though the New York Daily News suggested he actually suffered a quad injury. Either way, it sounds like there's a pretty good chance he'll be able to gut it out in Week 11.

Jets LG Matt Slauson actually has a stretched quad tendon, not a knee injury as first reported.

Slauson may need another MRI, but doctors have reportedly told him it's a pain management issue. A source tells the New York Daily News that Slauson has no structural damage. Rob Turner filled in for Slauson in the second half of Sunday's overtime win.

Jets LG Matt Slauson suffered a knee injury in the second half of Sunday's overtime win and did not return.

Rob Turner filled in at left guard. The severity of Slausen's injury is unknown.

Jets coach Rex Ryan has been very pleased with the play of first-year starting LG Matt Slauson.

"I think he's as good a left guard as there is in our division," Ryan said. After beating out Vlad Ducasse for a starting job in training camp, Slauson has helped lead the Jets to the second-ranked rushing offense in the league.

Matt Slauson has officially beaten out rookie Vlad Ducasse for the starting left guard job.

This has been the worst-kept secret in Jets camp for weeks now. Ducasse struggled with the transition from college tackle to pro guard while Slauson has impressed as a mauler in the running game. He has a tough first test against Haloti Ngata and Kelly Gregg on Monday.

Beat writer Manish Mehta is reporting that Matt Slauson will be the Jets starting LG Week 1.

Mehta cites an unknown source for his information, but it became clear over the last few weeks that Slauson had all but secured the starting position. He's much more polished than rookie Vlad Ducasse, and should plow the way inside for Shonn Greene.
