The Cincinnati Enquirer's Joe Reedy "highly doubts" both Bernard Scott and Giovani Bernard will make the Bengals' 53-man roster.
In other words, Scott's roster spot is in jeopardy. Bernard obviously isn't going anywhere after being the first running back drafted last weekend. The Bengals re-signed Scott, 29, to a one-year deal last month. Cincinnati will likely keep four running backs: BenJarvus Green-Ellis, Bernard, special teams ace Cedric Peerman, and sixth-round pick Rex Burkhead. May 5 - 5:38 PM

Bengals agreed to terms with RB Bernard Scott on a one-year, $715,000 contract.

Scott visited the Raiders, but left without a deal. He's returning to Cincy to push Cedric Peerman for change-of-pace duties behind BenJarvus Green-Ellis. The Bengals should not stop seeking backfield speed. Scott tore his left ACL last October, and Cincinnati needs more big-play ability at running back.

Free agent RB Bernard Scott (knee) will meet with the Raiders Wednesday and Bengals later this week.

Now six months removed from his ACL tear, Scott is starting to get nibbles. He'll go through some drills in Oakland, hoping to prove he's on his way to 100 percent. The Raiders currently have only Jeremy Stewart and Marcel Reece behind starter Darren McFadden, while the Bengals have been forthright in their desire to add a speed element next to BenJarvus Green-Ellis. Scott ran a 4.44 forty at the 2009 Combine and has averaged 4.05 yards per carry in his career.

Free agent Bernard Scott (ACL surgery) has received clearance from an orthopedic surgeon to begin cutting and doing "explosive weight training."

Scott tore his left ACL early last October. Doctors say he's "on the right track" in his recovery, but NFL interest in Scott may not pick up until he's ready to go through full workouts for clubs. Scott turned 29 years old in February.

The Cincinnati Enquirer believes it's "difficult" to envision free agent Bernard Scott back with the Bengals unless it's on a one-year deal.

That's true, but it's also true Scott is unlikely to draw any multi-year offers as he recovers from a torn ACL. It doesn't help that he's averaged just 4.1 yards over his first 255 career carries, and is already 28. Four months removed from shredding his knee, Scott will be a candidate to begin 2013 on the reserve/PUP list.

Running backs coach Jim Anderson confirmed the Bengals are looking for a "complement" to BenJarvus Green-Ellis this offseason.

Both Anderson and Marvin Lewis haven't been shy about their desire to add running back talent. Bernard Scott is coming off an ACL tear and entering free agency, so the widely held assumption is that they'll look to the draft. The Bengals' official website suggests the team could use a second-round pick on a prospect such as North Carolina's Giovani Bernard or Oregon's Kenjon Barner. Starter BenJarvus Green-Ellis averaged just 3.93 yards per carry and caught 1.4 passes per game in 2012.

Bengals placed RB Bernard Scott on injured reserve with a knee injury, ending his season.

It's believed Scott tore his left ACL. It's a bitter end to a season where Scott could never get healthy. Scott missed Weeks 1 and 2 with a hand issue before turning his ankle in his Week 3 debut. He finishes with just eight carries for 35 yards. We've long been a fan of Scott's athleticism, but he has only 284 career touches through four seasons to show for it. He'll be a free agent at season's end. Seemingly never able to earn the full trust of the Bengals' coaching staff, it would likely be best if he moved on. A tandem of Cedric Peerman and Brian Leonard will now back-up plodding lead-back BenJarvus Green-Ellis. Neither is worth an own in fantasy leagues.

The Bengals fear that RB Bernard Scott tore his ACL in Sunday's Week 5 loss to the Dolphins.

Scott left the stadium on crutches after he sustained a left knee injury in the first quarter Sunday. He'll undergo more testing Monday to confirm the team's fears. Scott has just eight carries for 35 yards on the season as he's battled hand and ankle injuries. Plodding third-down back Brian Leonard is next up behind starter BenJarvus Green-Ellis.

Bernard Scott left Sunday's game against the Dolphins with a left knee injury and is not expected to return.

Scott was injured on a first quarter carry. He gashed the Fins for 40 yards on five carries in the first half, but he can't seem to stay healthy. Scott has battled hand, ankle, and now knee injuries in the first part of the season.

Bernard Scott (ankle) practiced fully again on Friday and is listed as probable for Week 5.

He'll return to his pace-change role behind BenJarvus Green-Ellis against the Dolphins. Scott has lost five yards on his three carries so far this season. Still, the Bengals desperately need his speed in the backfield with Law Firm barely cracking 3.0 yards per rushing attempt over the past three games.

Bernard Scott (ankle) returned to full practice on Thursday.

Scott was limited on Wednesday after sitting out in Week 4, but should suit up against the Dolphins even if he's questionable on Friday's injury report. Considering the Dolphins have the league's No. 1 run defense and BenJarvus Green-Ellis has put a sleeper hold on feature-back duties in Cincinnati, however, Scott should be started in zero percent of fantasy leagues.

Bernard Scott (ankle) participated in Wednesday's practice.

He was officially limited. Scott got in two limited practices last week before sitting out against the Jaguars. Barring a setback, he should be ready to return against the Dolphins, but won't be slated for more than a handful of carries behind workhorse BenJarvus Green-Ellis. Injuries limited Scott to just three totes through Cincinnati's first four games.

Bernard Scott (ankle) is listed as questionable for Week 4 after getting in two limited practices.

Sidelined for Weeks 1 and 2 with a hand injury, Scott lost five yards on three carries before picking up his latest injury in last week's win. Brian Leonard and Cedric Peerman will back-up BenJarvus Green-Ellis against the Jaguars if Scott can't go.

Bernard Scott (ankle) retuned to Bengals practice Thursday, getting in a limited session.

It's an indication Scott's ailment is minor, but it's not exactly reassuring he's already dealing with a new injury after missing Cincinnati's first two games with a hand issue. Scott could eventually push BenJarvus Green-Ellis in the Bengals backfield, but he's a pure backup for the time being.

Bernard Scott was held out of Wednesday's practice with an ankle injury.

It's a new ailment for Scott, who lost five yards on three carries in his 2012 debut Sunday. For now, consider him questionable for Sunday's matchup with the Jaguars, but it's quite possible the Bengals are just limiting his reps following his return. Scott could eventually carve out a meaningful role behind BenJarvus Green-Ellis, but his 2012 is off to about as poor a start as possible.
