Browns re-signed RB Chris Ogbonnaya to a two-year contract.
Ogbonnaya, 27 in May, earned just eight carries in Cleveland last season despite injuries to Trent Richardson. The former seventh-round pick out of Texas is more of a pass blocker-only as a running back, and a special teamer. The Browns may still try to upgrade on Montario Hardesty as Richardson's backup. Chris Ogbonnaya rushed once for six yards and caught three passes for 17 yards in the Browns' Week 7 loss to the Colts.

He was targeted four times in the passing game, playing in all pass sets after Trent Richardson (ribs) left at halftime. Ogbonnaya offers little as a runner, but the Browns trust him as a pass blocker and he could play more snaps than Montario Hardesty if Richardson doesn't play against San Diego in Week 8.

Chris Ogbonnaya operated as a situational passing-down back behind Trent Richardson in Week 2.

Brandon Jackson was a healthy scratch, and Montario Hardesty didn't see an offensive snap for the second straight week. Ogbonnaya is a stronger receiver than Hardesty and offers more special teams value than Jackson. Coach Pat Shurmur suggested that Hardesty would play only if Richardson "needed a break." The upshot is that there is no clear-cut "handcuff" in Cleveland.

Browns RB Chris Ogbonnaya (high-ankle sprain) has resumed practicing.

Ogbonnaya missed the Browns' final two preseason games, but was always expected to be ready for Week 1. Fourth on the depth chart, however, he may not be active unless he's 100 percent. At least for the time being, Ogbonnaya is entirely off the fantasy radar.

Browns RB Chris Ogbonnaya will miss the remainder of preseason with a high left ankle sprain.

A source told beat reporter Mary Kay Cabot that Ogbonnaya will be back for Week 1, but that may be optimistic. High ankle sprains often cost players a month or more. This one could even cost Ogbonnaya his roster spot, as he was battling to stick behind Trent Richardson, Montario Hardesty, and Brandon Jackson.

Browns RB Chris Ogbonnaya will be on the roster bubble in training camp.

The Browns' top three tailbacks will be Trent Richardson, Montario Hardesty, and Brandon Jackson barring injury, so Ogbonnaya will have to stand out on special teams to even make them consider keeping four backs. Ogbonnaya averaged 4.57 yards per carry last season, though that drops to 4.08 if you negate his year-long 40-yard run. He fumbled twice and is poor in pass protection.

Chris Ogbonnaya led the Browns backfield with 27 snaps in Thursday's game, according to Pro Football Focus.

Ogbonnaya filled the passing-down role while Peyton Hillis (26 snaps) and Montario Hardesty (21) split early-down snaps. Hillis acknowledged frustration after the game, alluding to a "rotation of backs and the system." A heavy workload for Hillis is far from guaranteed going forward.

Chris Ogbonnaya operated as the third-down back as the Browns fell to the Ravens in Week 13, catching five passes for 28 yards.

He also had a two-yard carry, giving Ogbonnaya six touches on the day. Ogbonnaya played ahead of Montario Hardesty, perhaps because the Browns prefer him as a blitz protector on passing downs. Or it may have been because Hardesty (calf) still isn't healthy. Regardless, Ogbonnaya's role will only diminish in the final month, and he will not be a fantasy option.

Chris Ogbonnaya rushed three times for 16 yards and added one catch for four yards in Sunday's loss to the Bengals.

Even though Montario Hardesty (calf) didn't play, Peyton Hillis (hamstring) returned. That sent Ogbonnaya back to a strict reserve role. Hillis even played on most third downs, leaving Ogbonnaya with no role. The Browns clearly and rightfully view him as merely a replacement-level talent.

Coach Pat Shurmur confirmed Friday that none of the Browns' running backs is in line for a full workload in Week 12.

Shurmur also confirmed that the depth chart has not changed. Peyton Hillis is the starter, Montario Hardesty is No. 2, and Chris Ogbonnaya is third. Hillis (hamstring) is a shaky bet to be active Sunday. Hardesty (calf) will play, but may not be 100 percent and will be in a rotation. With a difficult matchup against the Bengals' top-three run defense, the Browns' backfield is best left avoided in fantasy leagues for Week 12.

Chris Ogbonnaya has accepted his demotion out of the starting lineup.

Montario Hardesty (calf) is on track to start Sunday's game against the Bengals, sending Ogbonnaya back to a third-down role. "It doesn't really bother me," he said. Barring a late-week setback to Hardesty, Ogbonnaya won't be a real fantasy option this week. And once Peyton Hillis (hamstring) gets back, Ogbonnaya will become waiver-wire fodder.

Chris Ogbonnaya rushed for 115 yards and a touchdown on 21 carries and caught two passes for 19 yards in the Browns' Week 11 win over the Jaguars.

Ogbonnaya can get what's blocked, and the Browns' offensive line opened holes against a Jacksonville front seven that came into the game without NT Terrance Knighton, and lost LE Matt Roth and WLB Clint Session during it. With Montario Hardesty (calf) on his way back, Ogbonnaya may not have a feature back job for much longer. The Browns face a tough Bengals defense in Week 12.

Chris Ogbonnaya carried the ball 19 times for 90 yards in Sunday's loss to the Rams, adding two catches for 19 yards.

After looking like the worst running back in football the past two weeks, Ogbonnaya got on track against the league's worst run defense. With both Peyton Hillis and Montario Hardesty appearing unlikely to return in Week 11 against the Jaguars, Ogbonnaya should get another start. He'll find things tougher going against a much better run defense, however.

Chris Ogbonnaya rushed 13 times for 28 yards and added one catch for 13 yards in Sunday's loss to the Texans.

With both Peyton Hillis and Montario Hardesty inactive, Ogbonnaya played every single first-half snap. He flubbed his chance. Showing an inability to break a tackle or get to the edge, Ogbonnaya looked like a practice squad talent out there. He also lost a fumble on his very first carry of the game. Even in a dream matchup with the Rams next week, Ogbonnaya would only be a flex play if he gets another start.

With Peyton Hillis officially ruled out, Chris Ogbonnaya will start for the Browns in Sunday's game against the Texans.

Ogbonnaya has landed into an opportunistic situation with the Browns after being waived by the Texans in October. While his lack of experience and name recognition currently have him undervalued, he's a viable flex option this week in a full-time role against the Texans' injury-plagued defense.
