Colts coach Chuck Pagano called free agent P Pat McAfee a "major priority."

"Obviously, we've reached out and are working to get Pat re-signed," Pagano said. "We saw what he did for us last year. He's a great weapon." McAfee set career-highs by landing 26 punts inside the 20-yard line and 11 inside the 10-yard line last season. He also ranked fifth in the league in gross punting average.

The Indianapolis Star considers free agent P Pat McAfee a candidate for the Colts' franchise tag.

Colts beat writer Mike Chappelle would be "stunned" if McAfee got away after finishing fifth in the NFL in gross punting average (48.2) in 2012, while ranking a rock-solid 15th in net (40.3). McAfee will turn 26 years old this May.

Pat McAfee broke the Colts' franchise record for net punting (46.6) in 2011 despite playing the final nine weeks with a torn meniscus in his kicking knee.

A rare bright spot in the Colts' 2-14 season, McAfee set the record on a massive sample size (88 attempts) because Indianapolis' inept offense punted so much. McAfee is scheduled to have the meniscus surgically repaired next Monday.

Colts P Pat McAfee an "invited guest" at the MLS soccer Columbus Crew's preseason practice on Tuesday.

Crew coach Robert Warzycha said McAfee "showed us he is a pretty good player." The Colts would likely frown on McAfee risking injury in another sport. It could be an option if the owners lock the players out this offseason.

As is often the case, McAfee signed a diversion agreement Friday. McAfee "was a first-time offender and was treated like anyone else," said Mark Correll of the Marion County prosecutor's office.

Colts suspended P Pat McAfee one game for conduct detrimental to the club.

McAfee was arrested at 5AM Wednesday morning for public intoxication. "The suspension will take effect on Monday, October 25 and will run through the Houston game on Monday, November 1," announced club president Bill Polian. "We will have no further comment at this time." McAfee will be eligible again in Week 9.

Colts P Pat McAfee was arrested at around 4:45 a.m. Wednesday morning for public intoxication.

McAfee allegedly took his shirt off, went for a swim in the Broad Ripple Canal and then approached a woman's car drunk and soaking wet with no shirt on, at which point the woman called the police. He blew a .15 on a breathalyzer test, which is nearly twice the legal limit. McAfee could possibly be looking at a suspension.
