Bucs placed WR Sammie Stroughter (foot) on injured reserve, ending his season.
The injury is a broken right foot. Stroughter had recently assumed slot receiver and punt returner duties from Preston Parker. Jordan Shipley, just re-signed, is expected to take over on punt returns. Coach Greg Schiano suggested that Arrelious Benn is in line for an expanded role, including a tryout in the slot. Stroughter is a free agent in 2013 and may not be back in Tampa. Fri, Sep 21, 2012 10:42:00 AM

Bucs WR Sammie Stroughter is dealing with a foot injury that "may or may not be a longer-term issue."

The injury played a part in Jordan Shipley's re-signing. Stroughter was limited by a foot injury for a large chunk of 2011, and he could be headed to injured reserve if he's staring at any sort of a prolonged absence.

Bucs WR Sammie Stroughter (foot) has been ruled out for Week 7.

Stroughter returned to practice this week. The Bucs will allow him to use the bye week to get back to full speed before throwing him back in. He'll battle Preston Parker for slot duties in the second half of the season.

Bucs WR Sammie Stroughter (foot) returned to practice on Wednesday.

His return is a concern for fill-in slot receiver Preston Parker, who was already only about a 40-percent player on offense. Stroughter, who's been out since Week 1, was previously the Bucs' first-team slot man. While Parker has played well enough that he could conceivably run with the job, any threat to his already shaky playing time should be a worry for fantasy owners.

Bucs WR Sammie Stroughter (foot) has yet to resume practicing.

Stroughter remains out indefinitely following mid-September foot surgery. In the mean time, Preston Parker has taken the slot receiver job and run with it. Parker's two best games have come against the zone defenses of the Colts and Vikings. We're skeptical of his ability to maintain fantasy value on any kind of consistent basis.

Bucs WR/KR Sammie Stroughter will have surgery Tuesday to repair a "small" fracture in his left foot.

Stroughter injured his left foot on a kickoff return Sunday. Look for Preston Parker and Micheal Spurlock to fill in as depth at receiver and kick returners for the next month or so.

Bucs WR/KR Sammie Stroughter injured his left foot on a kickoff return in Sunday's loss to the Lions.

The St. Petersburg Times speculates that Stroughter "could be out a while" after leaving the stadium in a boot and on crutches yesterday. Preston Parker and Micheal Spurlock are candidates to fill in on kick returns.

Bucs WR Sammie Stroughter "looks ready to make his presence known again" in 2011, according to the St. Petersburg Times.

Stroughter was slowed by nagging injuries in 2010, and made just nine catches over his final nine games after showing some promise as a rookie. If healthy, he could prove to be an interesting option in the slot for the Bucs, but won't be worth a fantasy draft pick. The Bucs also could sign an upgrade.

Buccaneers declared WR Sammie Stroughter, QB Rudy Carpenter, CB D.J. Johnson, FB Earnest Graham, OT Will Barker, DE George Johnson, DT Doug Worthington, and TE Nathan Overbay inactive for Week 17 against the Saints.

Stroughter hasn't practiced since coming down with a hamstring injury three weeks ago. With Arrelious Benn also out, Maurice Stovall will start opposite Mike Williams. Rookie Dez Briscoe is also expected to see an expanded role.

Bucs declared third QB Rudy Carpenter, WR Sammie Stroughter, S Dominique Harris, RB Kregg Lumpkin, CB Dominique Johnson, DE George Johnson, T James Lee and TE Nathan Overbay inactive for Week 16.

Stroughter is dealing with a hamstring injury that knocked him out of last week's game. Arrelious Benn and Michael Spurlock figure to see more targets with him out. Veteran Jeremy Trueblood will fill in for Lee.

Bucs WR Sammie Stroughter caught all six targets for 48 yards, and rushed once for two yards in a Week 13 loss at home to Atlanta.

Stroughter's six catches were a season-high and his most since Week 3. That said, Sammie isn't a big enough part of the Tampa Bay offense to warrant a spot on your fantasy postseason roster.

Tampa Bay declared WR Sammie Stroughter, third QB Rudy Carpenter, FB Earnest Graham, OT Jeremy Trueblood, C Jeff Faine, DT Ryan Sims, DL Alex Magee, and CB Myron Lewis inactive for Sunday's Week 9 game against Atlanta.

Stroughter's absence means more targets for Mike Williams, Arrelious Benn, and Kellen Winslow. It's a great opportunity for Benn to make an impression. Kellen Winslow will be active, as will Gerald McCoy. Lewis is a healthy scratch. All the team's probables will play, and Stroughter was the only questionable.

Sammie Stroughter caught three passes for 51 yards in Sunday's loss to the Saints.

Arrelious Benn didn't come close to stealing snaps from Stroughter. Benn saw just three targets while Stroughter started and saw nine. Still, Stroughter struggles to make plays deep down the field and would be better served in the slot. There's nothing to see here either way.
Sun, Oct 17, 2010 05:19:00 PM

Buccaneers WR Sammie Stroughter is likely to play more in the slot going forward.

It makes all the sense in the world. Stroughter is built more like a slot receiver, anyway, and rookie Arrelious Benn can only play flanker at the moment. It wouldn't be a surprise at all if Mike Williams and Benn start on the outside in Week 5 and Stroughter plays out of the slot.
Mon, Sep 27, 2010 02:24:00 PM

Buccaneers offensive coordinator Greg Olson wants to get WR Sammie Stroughter more involved in the offense.

"I need to do a better job of getting the ball in Sammie Stroughter’s hands," Olson said. "He is an explosive player for us and he can do some things." Stroughter was targeted once in Week 2, and that was on a ball Josh Freeman intentionally threw out of bounds. He shouldn't be owned in fantasy until the Bucs actually do get him the ball.
