Steelers placed TE David Johnson (wrist) on injured reserve, ending his season.

Johnson went down in the first quarter of Sunday's Week 6 win over the Jets. The blocking tight end is in the final year of his contract and finishes his fourth NFL season with four catches for 70 yards.

Steelers TE David Johnson is likely done for the day in Week 6 with a left wrist injury.

Johnson went down in the first quarter. A fullback/tight end type, he was later spotted with a large wrap on his wrist on his way to the locker room.

Steelers activated TE David Johnson (knee) from the active/PUP list.

Johnson is a blocker that can play some fullback. Sadly, the Steelers are in desperate need for his services. Heath Miller (knee) doesn't appear close and Matt Spaeth (foot) is out 8-10 weeks. David Paulson is penciled in as the starter.

Steelers TE David Johnson (knee) remains on the PUP list.

Johnson tore his ACL last summer. His rehab has taken on increased importance with Matt Spaeth (foot) out 8-10 weeks. "I should be back in a few weeks," Johnson said. "The rehab, everything, is going real good." Johnson could manage to avoid reserve/PUP, but is light years away from fantasy relevance.

Steelers FB/TE David Johnson confirmed he will move back to tight end this season.

Johnson isn't ideally built for a tight end at 6-foot-2 and 260 pounds, but he could fill a Delanie Walker-type role with Heath Miller (torn ACL, MCL, PCL) out of the mix, primarily blocking and running the occasional pass route. The Steelers need to find a legit starter at the position. Notre Dame's Tyler Eifert would be an intriguing option if he's available with the No. 17 overall pick.

Steelers re-signed TE/FB David Johnson to a one-year contract.

The tight end turned fullback missed all of 2012 with a torn ACL. The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette believes he could shift back to tight end with Heath Miller recovering from a torn ACL of his own. A blocker, Johnson has just 18 catches in 47 career games.

The injury that knocked Steelers FB David Johnson out of Thursday's preseason game is believed to be a torn ACL.

Johnson was in line for lead-blocking duties in Todd Haley's new offense. Undrafted West Virginia rookie Will Johnson is the only other fullback on the roster, so the Steelers will be forced to add another lead blocker next week. Johnson will go under the knife on August 15.

Steelers FB David Johnson exited Thursday's preseason opener with a right knee injury.

The injury looked serious on the field, and Johnson was immediately declared out for the rest of the game. A former tight end/H-back, Johnson had been moved to lead blocker full time in Todd Haley's new offense. If Johnson's injury is significant, the Steelers will have to scour the waiver wire for a lead blocker. They've seemed intent on implementing one this offseason.

Steelers TE/FB David Johnson is now strictly a fullback.

It's a sign that new OC Todd Haley plans to utilize the lead-blocker more than Bruce Arians did. Haley has also placed more emphasis on the running backs, especially in the passing game. Leonard Pope, who played under Haley in Kansas City and Arizona, believes the Steelers' run/pass ratio will depend on matchups and game momentum.

Steelers re-signed restricted free agent TE/FB David Johnson to a one-year, $1.26 million contract.

Entering his fourth NFL year, Johnson has shuttled between backup tight end and starting lead blocker in Pittsburgh's offense. He has yet to carry the ball in an NFL game, but does have 18 career receptions through three seasons.

Steelers FB/TE David Johnson suffered a high ankle sprain in Week 3.

He'll likely miss multiple weeks. Frank Summers was also sent to the doctor with a back injury Tuesday, so the Steelers will bring back free agent Carey Davis.

Steelers signed seventh-round TE David Johnson to a three-year contract.

Johnson, who profiles as an H-back at 6'2/260, averaged 16.2 yards per catch at Arkansas State. The Steelers had success with TE Sean McHugh in a fullback role, and Johnson is a good enough blocker to follow in his footsteps.
