Jaguars re-signed restricted free agent SS Courtney Greene to a one-year, $1.26 million contract.

Greene appeared in seven games last season, starting two, before landing on injured reserve with knee problems in November. In 2012, Greene will compete with Chris Prosinski to be the Jags' third safety behind Dwight Lowery and Dawan Landry. Either way, Greene's primary duties will be on special teams.

Jaguars placed SS Courtney Greene (knees) on injured reserve, ending his season.

Greene was nursing a hamstring injury around midseason, but it's believed this was related to his knees. He wound up starting only two games this year, recording 10 tackles. Greene is not under contract for the 2012 season.

Courtney Greene is set to battle rookie Chris Prosinski for the Jaguars' starting strong safety job.

Greene started 11 games last season and has the clear upper hand. He's an in-the-box safety that will allow newly acquired free safety Dawan Landry to roam. Prosinski is a better bet to get playing time via special teams.

Jaguars GM Gene Smith cited SS Courtney Greene as one potential building block at the team's weakest position.

"The one guy that improved the most last year was Courtney Greene," Smith said. "He has a chance." Greene racked up 78 tackles, one interception, and a forced fumble in 11 starts, showing impact ability as a hitter. He is an in-the-box safety, however, and the Jags plan to sign a free safety in free agency.

Jaguars declared SS Courtney Greene, WR Tiquan Underwood, WR John Matthews, CB Terrence Wheatley, FB Brock Bolen, DL Larry Hart, DL Nate Collins, and OT Daniel Baldridge inactive for Week 14 against the Raiders.

A hard hitter as a first-time starter, Greene is much better in run support than backup Sean Considine. It's an upgrade for Darren McFadden as well as Zach Miller.

Jaguars SS Courtney Greene (shoulder) is expected to miss at least one game.

The results of an MRI aren't known, but coach Jack Del Rio expects Greene to return this season. Greene's loss depletes an already razor-thin Jaguars secondary. Sean Considine will start in Greene's absence.

Jaguars SS Courtney Greene was seen with his arm in a sling following his Week 13 shoulder injury.

He suffered the injury early in the first quarter of Sunday's Week 13 game. The injury appeared serious when it happened, but we won't know more until the team runs him through tests. No break was revealed during in-game X-rays, but he'll have an MRI on Monday. Sean Considine played in Greene's absence.

Jaguars SS Courtney Greene was injured on the first drive of the team's Week 13 game against Tennessee and did not return.

He appeared to injury his shoulder trying to make a tackle on Chris Johnson. Although he left on his own power, he looked to be in a lot of pain and was seen crying on the sideline. The Jaguars have an extremely thin secondary and cannot afford to lose their starter. Sean Considine filled in and put up three tackles.

Courtney Greene has taken hold of the Jaguars' strong safety job.

Greene led the Jags in tackles last week and caught Thomas Jones from behind on a 70-yard run. A hard hitter, Greene joins free safety Don Carey in bringing some much-needed athleticism to the defensive backfield. The Jags remain a dream matchup for opposing passing games, however.

Courtney Greene and Don Carey are expected to start at safety for the Jaguars this week at Kansas City.

The hits just keep coming for a secondary vying with the Texans as the league's leakiest. The Jags are hoping to develop the two longshot youngsters for the future, but they're going to take their lumps along the way. Dwayne Bowe is a viable fantasy option for a second straight week.

Jaguars signed S Courtney Greene, formerly of the Seahawks.

Greene was Seattle's seventh-round pick in April. He'll likely be asked to play special teams eventually, but seems unlikely to help on defense.

Seahawks signed seventh-round S Courtney Greene to a four-year contract. The deal includes a $42,500 signing bonus.

Willing in run support and offering good straight-line speed (4.53), Greene will be tried at strong safety in Seattle. His initial impact will be on special teams, but he could carve out a defensive role if Deon Grant goes down.
