The seventh-year journeyman might finally be out of chances in the NFL. Underwood caught 52 passes across 26 games for the Bucs in 2012-13, but couldn't crack a regular-season roster last season. Panthers released WR Tiquan Underwood and waived WR Toney Clemons.

Underwood was originally expected to fill the occasional deep threat role for the Panthers, as they remade their receiver corps. He quickly fell behind Tavarres King and Kealoha Pilares. Not making it to final cuts isn't a good sign for Underwood. He caught his lone preseason target for a five-yard gain.

Underwood has fallen behind rookie Kelvin Benjamin, Jerricho Cotchery and Jason Avant on the depth chart, and may have already been passed by Tavarres King and Brenton Bersin as well. The Panthers have reportedly "not yet given up" on Underwood, but that may be changing. He is squarely on the roster bubble.

Underwood reportedly dropped passes throughout OTAs, and his struggles have carried over into training camp. He's behind third-year UDFA Brenton Bersin, and is no higher than the No. 6 receiver. A situational deep threat, Underwood will need a strong preseason to avoid getting cut.

ESPN Panthers reporter David Newton believes Tiquan Underwood is currently one of the top-three wide receivers in Carolina.

That is largely an indictment of Carolina's receiver corps. Underwood is more suited to be a depth piece and situational deep threat, but he will be asked to do more for a Panthers team in desperate need of wideout help. Underwood has a shot to surpass his career-high 440 receiving yards this season.

Panthers signed WR Tiquan Underwood, formerly of the Bucs, to a two-year contract.

Underwood and Jerricho Cotchery now sit atop the Carolina depth chart at receiver. Underwood, 27, had a career-year last season, catching 24 passes for 440 yards and four touchdowns. He started seven games opposite Vincent Jackson while Mike Williams was sidelined. Underwood owns a career 16.0 YPR mark and will provide a sneaky deep threat for Cam Newton.

Underwood saw seven targets and snuck behind the defense for a 48-yard score in the first quarter. He appeared in 13 games after re-signing with the Bucs after the first month of the season and started eight games after Mike Williams was lost for the year to a hamstring injury. Underwood set new career-highs across the board with a 29-533-5 line. He'll be a free agent in March but has proved he can be serviceable depth.

Running as the Bucs' clear No. 2 receiver, Underwood has cleared 50 yards in three of his past four games, but caught just 10 passes in the process. He can't be trusted for the fantasy playoffs.

Underwood had managed stat lines of 2-29-1, 3-64, and 1-20 in his previous three starts in place of Mike Williams, so this explosion essentially came out of nowhere. He can't be trusted in 12-team leagues at Carolina in Week 12.
